Eleanor Ruth Morgan, collected antiques
Eleanor Ruth Morgan enjoyed the simple things in life: knitting, baking, playing the piano, collecting antiques, caring for family and friends.
"I spent a lot of holidays at her home, made a lot of visits, and it was just a marvelous time, " said her niece, Alice Kennelly Roberts.
"She had so many antiques, it was almost like a museum ... and she did her homemade candies and pastries and a special orange cake that was just beautiful."
Ms. Morgan, 95, died Monday at Woodspoint Nursing Home in Florence.
She grew up in Covington with a sister and a brother. She graduated from a local business college, then worked for a short time as a secretary at a publishing company in Cincinnati.
She married
Earl Archibald Morgan in the early 1920s and had a son, Robert Earl Morgan, in 1928. She quit her job at the publishing company to become a full-time mother and wife.
Ms. Morgan enjoyed embroidering and knitting and playing the piano and the organ, said Ms. Roberts, of Ft. Wright. She was a life-time member of the Covington Art Club and the Early American Glass Club.
Ms. Roberts said she spent many summer days with Ms. Morgan after her parents died when she was a young woman.
"I was without parents, so Eleanor was awfully good to me, " Ms. Roberts said. "She'd say, "Come on over and have soup or chili with me.' "
