Jane Foss, bank officer, later taught ceramics
Jane Foss was rooted in Campbell County.
Her father, the late Dr. David Yandall Ragan, moved to the county from Louisville with his wife, the late Rebekah Ragan, and took up residence in Cold Spring.
He was one of the county's first doctors, said Foss' son, William Griffin of Alexandria.
Mrs. Foss, who died Thursday at age 83, was a full-time mother to her two children when they were young. They lived on a farm in Cold Spring, raising produce for market and milking cows.
When the children entered school, she became a bank clerk, and later became bank manager for the Bank of Alexandria, which is now a part of Provident Bank.
After her second husband, Charles Foss, retired, they started a business in ceramics. Mrs. Foss became a certified ceramics instructor, and taught classes at least four times weekly at their home on U.S. 27 in Highland Heights.
She made her son lots of University of Kentucky sports figurines, as well as a nativity set that he treasures. She loved to make figures for holidays like Halloween and Easter, too.
After Mr. Foss died in 1992, she lived by herself for a long time, then moved to the Lexington Country Place, an assisted living/nursing home, to be closer to her daughter, Pat Childers, who lives in Lexington.
