Thomas Waters, financial counselor
Thomas Patrick Waters' favorite hobby wasn't golf or fishing -- though he did enjoy casting his line at the Norris Dam in Tennessee once in a while.
Mr. Waters mostly enjoyed shooting cans with a BB gun in his Bellevue backyard with his two grandsons, Matthew Waters, 6, and Aaron Simpson, 6.
He also liked watching his granddaughter, Megan Waters, 8, perform impromptu piano recitals.
Mr. Waters died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was 63.
His wife of 42 years, Sara Lewis Waters, said her husband's other passion was his job as a financial counselor at Bethesda Oak Hospital in Cincinnati.
"He was very compassionate, " she said. "Anyone that would call him with a problem, he made sure it was taken care of."
Waters was so passionate about his job that he didn't stop working until he was admitted to Good Samaritan Hospital on Oct. 27. Even after battling a rare muscle-weakening disease in the hospital for more than a month, he planned to go back to work in 2004.
"He wouldn't quit, " his wife said. "He was never a quitter. He would fight to the bitter end."
Waters was a member of Divine Mercy Church, Bellevue, and of the Bellevue Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years. Before becoming a financial counselor, he ran a blood bank at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati for 42 years. For a while, he was also a medical technician instructor.
