Sister Deavy, teacher, principal, with Irish wit
Sister Mary Hilarine Deavy of St. Walburg Monastery in Villa Hills was a teacher and principal for 54 years.
"She was just a delightful person who was kind and considerate and always had a bit of Irish wit, " said her fellow Benedictine Sister Andrea.
"I think she left a lot of fond memories with people that she contacted in her educational experience."
Sister Hilarine died Thursday at St. Walburg. She was 86 years old.
One of eight children, Sister Hilarine was born in Newport.
She entered St. Walburg as a postulant in 1936 and made her perpetual vows in 1941.
Between 1938 and 1992, she was an elementary school teacher, principal or both at assignments that included St. Henry in Erlanger, Blessed Sacrament in Fort Mitchell and Holy Cross in Covington.
She also served as house mother at St. John's Orphanage in Fort Mitchell and secretary at the Montessori School at St. Walburg.
Survivors include the Benedictine sisters and many nieces and nephews.
A vigil service will be 7:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Walburg Chapel.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at the chapel 5:30 p.m. Monday.
Interment will be in St. Walburg Monastery Cemetery.

James Everett Adkins, 68, of Dry Ridge, died Sunday at his home.
He was an electrician with the State of Ohio and a member of American Legion Post No. 137, Williamstown.
Survivors include sons, James Adkins of Ludlow and Brian Kinnett of Crittenden; daughters, Terri Cooper of Lawrenceburg, Ind., and Lisa Adkins of Cincinnati; a sister, Juanita Woodruff of Louisville; and nine grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Sunday at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery, Dry Ridge.
Lillian H. Banks, 91, of Bellevue, died Friday at her home.
She was a homemaker and a member of Las Vegas Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Bill Banks of Florence; a daughter, Shirley Koke of Bellevue; a sister, Sophia Watkins of Virginia Beach, Va.; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at A.C. Dobbling and Son Funeral Home, Bellevue. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

Ruby Velma Cash, 84, of Williams
town, died Thursday at Owenton Manor.
She was a homemaker and farmer, and a member of Knoxville Christian Church, Williamstown. Her husband, John Cash, died in 1972.
Survivors include brothers, Junior McClanahan of Williamstown, Donald McClanahan of Blanchester, Ohio, and Ronald McClanahan of Cincinnati; and sisters, Irene McMillian of Blanchester, Ohio, Mildred Whaley of Williamstown, and Jewel Harmon of Florence.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Williamstown Cemetery.
Everett R. Dunn, 73, of Latonia, died at 7:10 p.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.
He was a retired manufacturer technician with Ford Motor Co., a member of Church of the Nazarene in Dayton and American Legion Post No. 203 in Latonia, and a volunteer with the Boys' Club. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Louise Fisher Dunn; and a son, Wayne R. Dunn of Fort Wright.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
Jane M. Gasdorf, 72, of Lawrenceburg, Ind., died Wednesday in Lawrenceburg.
She was a member of Hidden Valley Lake Garden Club. A son, Mike Gasdorf, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, Lincoln Gasdorf; a son, Greg Gasdorf of Orlando, Fla.; a daughter, Lisa Gonzalez of Hebron; a brother, Phil Megowen of Covington; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at the convenience of the family. Fitch-Denney Funeral Home, Lawrenceburg, Ind., is handling arrangements.
Forrest Abbott Hendren, 64, of Warsaw, died Friday at his home.
He was a former factory worker with American Racing Equipment in Warsaw and a member of Oakland Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Wilson Hendren; sons, Jeffery Hendren, Troy Dale Hendren and Nathan Hendren, all of Warsaw; a sister, Almedia Hendren of Warsaw; and six grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home, Verona. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Napoleon Cemetery.

Julia Leigh Hill, 18, of Groton, N.Y., died Wednesday in Groton of injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
Survivors include her parents, Wayne Arthur Hill of Albany, N.Y., and Cynthia Dees of Groton; a brother, Jacob Arthur Hill; and grandmother, Mary Becht Dees of Ghent.
Private services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Dees Family Cemetery, Ghent.

Donald E. Holmes, 85, of Falmouth, died Friday at River Valley Nursing Home, Butler.
He was a farmer and a member of Antioch Mills Christian Church and Pendleton County Senior Citizens. His wife, Ruth Browning Holmes, died in 1999.
Survivors include a son, Ernest Lee Holmes of Falmouth; a daughter, Charlotte Ann Whaley of Berry; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Falmouth.

Patricia Jessee, 59, of Dayton, died Tuesday at her home.
She was a homemaker. Her husband, Billy Jessee, died in 2001. A son, Jerry Waters, died Dec. 2.
Survivors include a daughter, Jennifer Waters of Dayton; sisters, Goldie Adair, Madge McCane and Louise Sneed, all of Cincinnati, Margaret Nolan of Newport and Irene Widener of Bellevue; a brother, Jerry Waters of Fort Thomas; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Services will be at 4 p.m. today at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Visitation will begin there at 1 p.m.
Bonnie Detro McCann, 76, of Cincinnati, died Tuesday in Las Vegas.
She was an employee of Sears, a former employee of J.C. Penney Co. and a member of Sardis Christian Church and the Order of the Eastern Star in Fort Thomas. Her husband, Franklin McCann, died in 1977.
Survivors include a daughter, Tanya Sue Pamer of Cincinnati, and a granddaughter.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Palmer Funeral Home, Mays Lick. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Shannon Cemetery, Mays Lick.

Henrietta Hovel Murphy, 87, of Fort Thomas, died Friday at Carmel Manor, Fort Thomas.
She was a retired assistant store manager with Murphy's Food Shop in Newport, and a member of St. Francis and St. Therese bowling leagues, St. Francis deSales Altar Society and Siena Seniors. Her husband, Clarence Murphy, died in 1993.
Survivors include daughters, Mary Ann Kleine of Warren, Mich., and Barbara Wofford of Mentor; sons, Tom Murphy of Alexandria, Jack Murphy and Mike Murphy, both of Fort Thomas, and Ron Murphy of Wilder; a sister, Mil Gerrein of Cold Spring; 20 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Prayers will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.
Chester Racke, 77, of Cold Spring, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.

Pearl Sandifer, 84, of Carrollton, died Thursday at Green Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center, Carrollton.
She was a retired employee of the Carrollton News Democrat and a member of Carrollton United Methodist Church and Carroll County Senior Citizens. She was also a former employee of the Carroll County Circuit Clerk's office.
There are no immediate survivors.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at IOOF Cemetery, Carrollton.

Jason Lee Smith, 50, of Crescent Springs, died at 8 a.m. Wednesday at his home.
He was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Crim Smith; daughters, Tymandra Blair of Cincinnati and Karen Woods of Latonia; sons, James Crim and Bryan Crim, both of Cincinnati; her mother, Leila Kinney of Cincinnati; and seven grandchildren.

Lula Mae Smith Teague, 78, of Dayton, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, William W. Teague; daughters, Billie Lou Houston of Fort Thomas, Midge Roberts and Tina Teague, both of Dayton, and Pamela Teague-Blanton of Highland Heights; a son, Jim Teague of Fort Thomas; a brother, Homer Lee Smith of Mason, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Nicole Marie Thomas, 19 months, of Covington, died Thursday at her home.
She was a member of Elohim Christian Church, Covington.
Survivors include her parents, Victoria Lynn Thomas of Covington and John Leago Thomas III of Newport; a sister, Rosalind Lynn Thomas of Covington; grandparents, Anna B. and Randall Lawrence Rolfsen of Covington; and great-grandfather, Clarence LaFollette of Dry Ridge.
