Lillian 'Lea' Meurer 'liked seeing the world'
Aside from a few trips to Hawaii with her husband, Richard, Lillian M. "Lea" Meurer stuck pretty close to home during most of her 70 years.
That changed about six or seven years ago when Mrs. Meurer, of Crestview Hills, retired from her job as a registered nurse.
She suddenly became a world traveler, to locales that included Morocco, Ireland, England, Germany, and Greece. She returned from her last trip, to China, at Thanksgiving, less than a month before her death Sunday at her home.
"Her favorite place was home, " said her son, Paul Herbst of Dry Ridge. "Her favorite trip was the one she'd just been on and her trip with the most promise was the one she was about to take."
Even when he was a boy, Herbst said, his mother read him books about places around the globe.
"She liked seeing the world, she wanted to learn about other places, " he said.
Mrs. Meurer worked as a licensed practical nurse before earning a registered nurse's degree from Northern Kentucky University. Among her employers was University Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati.
She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, Fort Mitchell, and the New Friends Group. She was a volunteer Airport Ambassador at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport.
"She'll be missed by a very large family and many friends who are sorry that she's gone and glad that she was with us, " Herbst said.
