Anne Marie Kepferle Thorpe, 46, was a dedicated nurse
From her chosen career as a nurse to the gift of her organs at her death, Anne Marie Kepferle Thorpe spent most of her 46 years returning the kindness and care she first received as a child hospitalized with diabetes.

She retired two years ago from that hospital, where she had worked as a registered nurse.
Previous to that, she worked as a nurse at Jewish Hospital in Cincinnati.
Her husband, Sherman Thorpe, said she chose the nursing field because she knew firsthand the tremendous positive effect nurses can have on their patients' lives.
"When she was in the hospital as a child, the nurses took good care of her.
So that's the field she decided on because of that experience, " said Thorpe.
"She worked on the medical floors, particularly with older patients. She liked that. And she was on the board -- and she worked with other people on how to control their own diabetes. -- She just liked helping people, trying to help them feel better. People would even call her after (they left) the hospital when they felt better. -- She never met a stranger." The Thorpes were married
25 years.
