D. Boehmker, worked 29 years at New Perceptions
Though he never spoke a word, Dennis Boehmker was a pioneer.

Mr. Boehmker, 46, of Alexandria, died at 2:15 p.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

"His whole life was kind of a lesson for me -- my brothers and I. He was the most loving person I have ever known in my life, " said his brother Terry Boehmker, a sportswriter for The Cincinnati Post.

Born mentally handicapped, Mr. Boehmker -- Denny to his family and friends -- was an assembler with New Perceptions Inc., Edgewood, and a member of St. Agnes Church, Fort Wright.

"He was born in 1957, back before they had much in the way of special ed. He was a pioneer of sorts, " Terry Boehmker said.

Mr. Boehmker was one of the first students at Riverside Good Counsel special ed class and was involved in other Northern Kentucky programs for the mentally disabled following that.

He worked 29 years at New Perceptions.

"When he was in a good mood, everybody was in a good mood, " Terry Boehmker said of his brother, who was a little man with a big hug for everybody.

His parents, Herbert W. and Thelma Krusselman Boehmker, both preceded him in death.

Other survivors include brothers, Chip Boehmker of Fort Mitchell and Larry Boehmker of Independence; his caregiver, Darlene Hornsby of Alexandria; nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Agnes Church, Fort Wright. Visitation will begin there at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright.

Memorials are suggested to New Perceptions Inc., 1 Sperti Drive, Edgewood, Ky. 41017.

Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.

Margaret Almoslechner, 88, of Fort Thomas, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. She was a homemaker and a member of Christ Church United Church of Christ, Fort Thomas. Her husband, George Almoslechner, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Gerald Almoslechner of Fort Thomas; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Private services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice. A.C. Dobbling and Son Funeral Home, Fort Thomas, is handling arrangements.

Mary B. Griffith Anderson, 82, of Crescent Springs, died Saturday at Woodcrest Manor, Elsmere. She was a sales clerk with Kmart in Erlanger.

Survivors include sons, Raymond Lee Anderson of Latonia, Roy E. Anderson and Ronnie A. Anderson, both of Covington, Richard P. Anderson of Harrison, Ohio, and Gary L. Anderson of Lansing, Mich.; daughters, Annie Schlachter of Ryland Heights, Barbara D. Faulkner of Dry Ridge and Brenda Lewis of Monroe, Ohio; a sister, Faye Skinner of Florence; brothers, Howard Griffith of Union and Bobby Griffith of Florence; 23 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home, Verona. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in New Bethel Cemetery, Verona. Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer's Disease Association, 644 Linn St., Suite 1026, Cincinnati, Ohio 45203.

Marjorie Wentworth Rich Baker, 83, of Demossville, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a retired fourth-grade teacher with Taylor Mill Elementary School, a member of Wilmington Baptist Church and a former member of the Baptist Women's Club. Her first husband, Edward Bluch Rich, died in 1962. Her second husband, Edgar Baker, died in 2001.

Survivors include sons, Robert E. Rich of Wyoming, Ohio, and John A. Rich of Covington; daughters, Sally B. McLafferty of Covington, Susan M. O'Banion of Morning View, and Elizabeth C. Gaskins of Walton; a sister, Sarah Holliman of Emporia, Kan.; a brother, Harold F. Wentworth of Powell, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Tuesday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Taylor Mill Elementary School, 5907 Taylor Mill Road, Covington, Ky. 41015.

Loretta Nellcamp Banks, 65, of Southgate, died at 11:20 a.m. Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a retired legal secretary and a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Fort Thomas and the Churchill Seniors Group. Her husband, Alton Banks, died in 1980.

Survivors include a niece, Jennifer Nellcamp, and a nephew, Richard Nellcamp, both of Bethel, Ohio.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Fort Thomas. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Tate Township Cemetery, Bethel. Memorials are suggested to St. Paul United Church of Christ, 1 Churchill Drive, Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075. Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport, is handling arrangements.

Miriam R. Chester, 81, of Dayton, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker and a member of East Dayton Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Earnest C. Chester; daughters, Susan D. Chester of Dayton and Nancy L. Landers of Cincinnati; three grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church, Dayton. Visitation will begin there at noon Tuesday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Arley J. Cochran, 77, of Demossville, died Friday at his home. He was a retired mechanic with Toyota Towne, Covington.

Survivors include his wife, Mattie Pearl Cochran; sons, Joe Arley Cochran and Clifford J. Cochran, both of Demossville, Henry Lynn Cochran and Steven Ray Cochran, both of Taylor Mill, and Greg Collins of Ironton, Ohio; a daughter, Pam Lawson of Ironton; sisters, Verna Brown and Ethel Cochran, both of Ironton; a brother, Elmer Cochran of Ironton; and seven grandchildren.

Alice Louise Cottingham, 78, of Fort Thomas, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. She was a homemaker and a member of First Presbyterian Church of Dayton.

Survivors include her husband, John Cottingham of Fort Thomas; a son, Patrick John Henry Cottingham II of Covington; a daughter, Annette Cottingham Holtzleiter of Fort Thomas; and two grandchildren.

Margaret E. Cushard, 66, of Covington, died at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. She was a dietary supervisor with Rosedale Manor in Latonia, and a member of American Legion Post No. 203 Ladies Auxiliary, Latonia.

Survivors include a son, Edward Wiley of Covington; a brother, Jerry Brown of Marcellus, Mich.; and sisters, Shirley Holloway of Burlington, Mary Laughlin of Barnwell, S.C., Linda Ball of Covington, Pamela Johnson of Evansville, Ind., Colleen Dallas of Edgewood and Sharon Ball of Newport.

Margaret "Peggy" Gorman, 79, of Bellevue, died Saturday at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of Divine Mercy Church, Bellevue, and the Bellevue Vets Retirees. Her husband, Edward A. Gorman, died in 1984.

Survivors include a son, Daniel Gorman of Dayton; daughters, Karen Daniels of Alexandria, Kathleen McCann of Cold Spring, Aimee Teague of Fort Thomas and Patricia Weigan of Florence; a sister, Joyce Bessler of Crestview Hills; a brother, James Crusham of Woodlawn; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Divine Mercy Church, Bellevue. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at A.C. Dobbling and Son Funeral Home, Bellevue. LaVern K. Dorgan Hearld, 79, of Newport, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a retired cook with Carmel Manor Nursing Home, Fort Thomas, and Spears Hospital, Dayton.

Survivors include a son, William R. Dorgan; a daughter, Donna J. Ellison; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Edwin "Wolf" Holzschuh, 59, of Highland Heights, died at 7:29 a.m. Friday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was an insulator with Asbestos Workers Union Local No. 8, Cincinnati, and a member of Holy Spirit Church, Newport.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Schraer Holzschuh; a son, Thomas Holzschuh of Cincinnati; daughters, Vicky Holzschuh and Angela Brossart, both of Highland Heights, Evelyn Burton of Liberty and Gale Carbone of Independence; and nine grandchildren.

Services will be at 7 tonight at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will begin there at 4 p.m. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to Edwin Holzschuh Memorial Fund, in care of Citizen Bank, 2911 Alexandria Pike, Highland Heights, Ky. 41076.

Kenneth G. Jackson, 82, of Covington, died Wednesday at Woodcrest Manor Care Center, Elsmere. He was an employee of American Laundry Co. in Norwood, Ohio, and was a member of Flour Creek Christian Church, the Pendleton County Sportsman Club and the National Rifle Association, and was an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Opal Jackson; a son, Richard Jackson of Butler; brothers, Charlie Jackson of Butler and Elmer Jackson of Latonia; sisters, Irene Caldwell and Delcie Jackson Roberts, both of Butler, and Dorothy Jackson Kelly Reeves of Oklahoma; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Peoples Funeral Home, Butler. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Butler Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to National Rifle Association, P. O. Box 420648, Palm Coast, Fla. 32142.

William Larry Kidwell, 64, of Deland, Fla., formerly of Ludlow, died Tuesday at Florida Hospital, Deland. He was the owner of Video Productions Co.

Survivors include his wife, Darlene Kidwell; sons, William Larry Kidwell Jr. of Florence, Scott Kidwell and Brian Kidwell, both of Edgewood; a daughter, Cindy Kidwell Dennis of Alexandria; five grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Charles Joseph Leopold, 66, of Bellevue, died Saturday at Batavia Nursing and Convalescent Center, Batavia, Ohio. He was disabled and was a former member of St. Anthony Church, Bellevue.

Survivors include his wife, Christine Leopold; sons, Bill Leopold of Highland Heights, Dave Leopold of Mason, Ohio, Doug Leopold of Eugene, Ore., Larry Leopold of Eminence, Victor Leopold of Loveland, Ohio, and Vince Leopold of Maineville, Ohio; a daughter, Terese Westerkamm of Bellevue; sisters, Mary Louise Cunningham and Virginia Vanhagen, both of Villa Hills, and Dorothy Leopold of Cincinnati; a brother, Donald Leopold of Fort Thomas; 15 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Sarah L. Meyer, 68, of Covington, died at 4:15 a.m. Friday at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Augustine Church in Covington and the Covington Turners.

Survivors include her husband, Fred J. Meyer; sons, Fritz Meyer, Tom Meyer and Greg Meyer, all of Independence, and Jim Meyer of Alexandria; daughters, Karen Peterson, Sandy Williams and Susan Moeller, all of Independence; a sister, Patty Wagner of Highland Heights; brothers, Jim Bird of Fort Thomas and Dick Bird of San Antonio; and 18 grandchildren.

Viola Pike, 71, of Batesville, Ind., died at 9:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Vincent Hospital, Carmel, Ind. She was a woodworker with Harper Furniture.

Survivors include her husband, Bill Teegarden of Batesville; a son, Allen Pike of Batesville; a daughter, Mary Butterfield of Arizona; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Tuesday at Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Baltimore Pike Cemetery, Cincinnati.

Donald J. Purcell, 79, of Highland Heights, died Friday at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Center, Edgewood. He was a retired shipping clerk with Disabled American Veterans, was a member of Disabled American Veterans and Newport Elks Lodge No. 273, and was an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Rose Winters Purcell; stepdaughters, Joyce Schalk and Nancy Rust, both of California, and Patricia Schmitt of Cold Spring; a stepson, Leroy Winters of Tacoma, Wash.; brothers, James Purcell, Howard Purcell and Peter Purcell, all of Cincinnati; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Diana Meader Sparrow, 57, of Gatlinburg, Tenn., formerly of Fort Mitchell, died at 7 a.m. Saturday at her home. She was owner of Little Sparrow Craft Shop in Gatlinburg and a member of Byrd's Creek Road Church of God, Gatlinburg.

Survivors include sons, Jerry Wayne Barcol of Covington and Rev. Kelly Barcol of Valdosta, Ga.; a daughter, Kimberly Lynn Williams of Owenton; her mother, Delores Williams Kareth of Edgewood; a brother, Gary Meader of Seattle; a sisters, Tammy Meader of Las Vegas; and four grandchildren.

Lenora Osbourn Stamper, 92, of Chenoa, Ill., formerly of Grant County, died Wednesday at Meadows Mennonite Retirement Community, Chenoa. She was a member and attended Vale Baptist Church, Bloomington, Ind. Her husband, Rev. Lemuel N. Stamper, died in 1993.

Survivors include daughters, Carolyn Brown of Normal, Ill., and Elosie Odum of Scott City, Kan.; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Owenton Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.

Nell A. Ulrich, 95, of Augusta, died Saturday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center, Maysville. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Augustine Church, Augusta. Her husband, Joseph Ulrich, died in 1980.

Survivors include daughters, Virginia Litzinger of Dover, Betty Jo Snapp of Augusta and Katherine Branam of Maysville; sons, Donald Ulrich of Augusta, Marion Ulrich of Brooksville and John Ulrich of Mays Lick; 24 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Vincent P. Wermeling, 81, of Covington, died Sunday at St. Charles Care Center, Covington. He was a truck driver with United Parcel Service and a member of St. Augustine Church, Covington. He was a member of Ralph Fulton VFW Post No. 6423 in Elsmere and Knights of Columbus, and was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Janet Staverman Wermeling; sons, Thomas Wermeling of Independence and Jim Wermeling of Burlington; a daughter, Peggy Reisiger of Fort Wright; and five grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Augustine Church, Covington. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Emmett C. Whaley, 97, of Williamstown, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Grant County, Williamstown. He was a self-employed barber and a member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church, Williamstown. His wife, Loretta Vice Whaley, preceded him in death.

Survivors include a son, Gary Whaley of Florence; daughters, Joyce French of Mesa, Ariz., and Donna Green of Williamstown; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Williamstown. Memorials are suggested to Mount Carmel Baptist Church Building Fund, Williamstown, Ky. 41097.

Steve Wright, 46, of Jonesville, died Friday at his home. He was a bulldozer operator with Wright's Bulldozing Co. and a member of Jonesville Methodist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Tracey Albers of Jonesville; a son, Christopher Wright of Jonesville; his mother, Wanda Clemons Wright of Dry Ridge, fiance, Rhonda Whalen of Jonesville; and three grandchildren.
