Brownie Oechsner, 82, was good with numbers
Brownie Oechsner was one of those people who was good with numbers and who was always willing to help out.
In a small community like Gallatin County, that meant she was always being called on to keep the books of one organization or another.
And in Mrs. Oechsner's case, she almost always said "yes."
So she was treasurer of the March of Dimes and the Cross County Homemakers and the Gallatin County Life Squad.
For the last-named organization, she volunteered to be treasurer when it started in the late 1970s and didn't give up those duties until 23 years later, when the squad began hiring paid staff.

"She always did bookkeeping and secretarial work, " said her son. "She didn't have any formal training. She just picked it up."
His mother was a positive person who had a good time helping others, Michael Oechsner said.
"She had 82 years, and I don't know anyone who had more fun, " he said. "She was a very cheerful person who lifted the spirits of others wherever she was."
