Corinne Furnish Points, painter
Corinne Furnish Points mostly shied away from attention during her 85 years, with one exception: her painting.
She had a lifelong dream to paint that she didn't find time to pursue until she retired in the early 1970s.
She took lessons and over about a decade, became proficient enough to exhibit her work in art shows and at the Boone County Fair, where she won ribbons for her scenes of nature and historical buildings.
She also took on a few students, to whom she passed on what she had learned about painting.
"It was something she always wanted to do, but didn't get around to it until she started taking classes, " said a daughter, Patty Mobley of Burlington.
Mrs. Points, of Burlington, died at 7:55 p.m. Wednesday at Florence Park Care Center. She was 85.
Raising her family and work -- she was a former medical assistant for Dr. Harold Ravenscraft in Burlington -- occupied much of her time before she retired.
She was also deeply involved in her church, Bullittsville Christian Church, where she worked with the Christian Women's Fellowship and was a deacon emeritus. She previously volunteered as a chaplain's assistant at the old Booth Hospital and worked with residents at Woodspoint Healthcare Center in Florence.
Her mother disliked anyone calling attention to those good works -- or the scores of others she did for needy families or individuals, said Mobley.
"She was a very warm and loving person, but she did things quietly, " Mobley said. "She liked to do things without attention, to the point of anonymity."
Mrs. Points' first husband, Gilbert Furnish, died in 1958. Her second husband, John Foster Points, died in 1982.
Surviving in addition to her daughter are sons, Dan Furnish of Edgewood and Jerry Furnish of Covington; stepdaughters, Wanda Roark of Florence and Viola Thompson of Hebron; a granddaughter, five step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren.
