Gaynor, Glen age 79 of Hudson died September 29.

Dr. Glen D. Gaynor age 79 of Hudson, WI, active civic leader, received home by his Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 29, 2002 at United Hospital in St. Paul, MN. Glen was born on February 10, 1923 in Spring Brook, Wisconsin; the son of Lloyd and Anna (Neste) Gaynor. He graduated from Spooner High School in 1940 prior to enlisting in the Navy Air Corp. He served from 1942 to 1946 as an aviator flight instructor. During this time, he furthered his education by receiving his doctrine degree in Chiropractic at Logan College of Chiropractic in St. Louis, Missouri. On June 10, 1948, he was united in marriage to Gloria Toftness at Salem Lutheran Church in Shell Lake, Wisconsin. This union would be blessed with children Kathleen, Jeffrey, Steven, and Richard. In 1950, Glen opened his chiropractic office in downtown Hudson where he served his patients until his retirement in 1979. Retirement didn’t stop Glen from being involved in the community. He was a Charter member and past president of the Hudson Rotary Club, the Wisconsin Chiropractic Association and the Hudson Chamber of Commerce. He was a founding board member of the Phipps Center for the Arts, and founding member and chairman of the Board for the State Bank of Hudson. He was also a member of the American Legion in Spring Brook and a former member of the Elks Club in Hudson. Glen enjoyed playing golf or bridge with friends. He took great pride in his log home he and Gloria built in Spring Brook. Whether fishing the creek, an occasional deer hunt or spending time with his family, Glen cherished time spent at the cabin. Glen is survived by his wife of 54 years Gloria, daughter Kathleen (Adrian) Hendrickson of Westby, WI; three sons Jeffery of Ft. Myers, Fl., Steven (Barbara) of Fridley, MN, Richard (Patricia) of Cottage Grove, MN; three sisters, Doris (Doug) Thompson of Spooner, WI, Alice Johnson of Rice Lake, Barbara Gaynor of New Richmond, WI and ten grandchildren. Local funeral service will be 9:30 AM Wednesday October 2, 2002 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church 502 Cty. Rd UU, Hudson with Father John Rasmus officiating. Organist Delores Willi will accompany singing of Dr. Forest Toftness and Susan Hendrickson with violin playing of Emily Hendrickson. A special brass ensemble was performed by Emily Hendrickson, Susan Hendrickson, Kaitlyn Gaynor, Curtis Gaynor, Megan Gaynor, and Richard Gaynor. Second funeral service will be 2:30 PM Wednesday October 2, 2002 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Spring Brook, WI. Burial in St. Luke’s cemetery with casketbearers being Darrell Youngberg, Richard Mockler, Dr. Gerald Emholtz, Dr. Merlin Groskopp, Gregory Hendrickson, Curtis Gaynor, Douglas Thompson, and David Cleveland. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 PM Tuesday October 1, 2002 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home 520 S. 11th Street, Hudson, WI. 715-386-3725. Memorials are preferred to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church or the Phipps Center for the Arts in Hudson. Services are entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson.

Dicke, Dorothy age 91 of Hudson died September 26.

Mrs. Dorothy Delores Dicke, age 91 of Hudson, (Widow of the late Pastor Martin Dicke of Trinity Lutheran Church of Hudson) died Thursday evening, September 26, 2002 at the Christian Community Home in Hudson. Dorothy was born on October 11, 1910 in Merrill, Wisconsin; the daughter of Charles F. and Johanna (Rusch) Hackbart. She received her elementary schooling at Trinity Lutheran School in Merrill prior to graduating from Merrill High School. She furthered her education by graduating from Merrill Business College. On June 8, 1932, she would be united in marriage to Pastor Martin H. Dicke in Merrill, Wisconsin. Dorothy worked as a stenographer for the Merrill Candy Company prior to dedicating her time to that of homemaker. Together they lived in Pinckneyville, Illinois where Pastor served his first calling and then in Butternut, Wisconsin. In 1955, the couple made Hudson their home where Pastor Dicke served as pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church of Hudson for 1955 until 1974. Dorothy herself held a strong faith and was an active member of Trinity Lutheran and a full partner in her husband’s ministry. She cherished family and time spent with grandchildren. She is survived by her children Donald M. Dicke of Hartford, WI, David (Carole) Dicke of Green Bay, WI., Peter Dicke of Stillwater, MN., Katherine (Thomas) Schnidewind of Watertown, WI., Gretchen (Charles) Freehling of St. Croix, US Virgin Islands, Paula Dicke of Hudson, Julie (Douglas) Mastley of Brooklyn Park, MN., daughters-in-law Mary Dicke of Hudson, Sandy Dicke of Maplewood, MN and Joan Dicke of Milwaukee, WI, 14 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, numerous “adopted” children and grandchildren. Dorothy is preceded in death by her son John in 1981 and husband in 1993. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, October 4, 2002 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hudson. Pastor Mark Tewes will officiate. Casketbearers will be her grandsons Stephan, James, William, Paul, Greg, Martin, Anthony and John.Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday October 3, 2002 at O’Connell Family Funeral Home and one hour prior to service time at the church. Memorials are preferred. Funeral services have been entrusted to the O’Connell Family funeral Home of Hudson.

Swenson, Clarence lontime resident of Centerville-Rush River Township died September 30.

Clarence Swenson age 93 of Rush River Township (Baldwin) died Monday morning, Sept. 30 at Parkview Nursing Home in Woodville. Clarence was born on August 2, 1909 in Gilman Township; the son of Carl and Seriue Jenette (Nelson) Swenson. He received his education in Spring Valley. On November 28, 1935, he was united in marriage to Anna Sabby at the Gilman Lutheran Church of Spring Valley. Clarence and Anna, along with son Harley, have farmed south of Baldwin in Rush River Township at the Swenson Farmstead. Clarence loved to till the soil and work the farm. He was a past member of the Farm Bureau. Clarence is survived by his son Harley of Rush River Township, daughter Shirley (Don) Johnson and their family of Lake Elmo, Minnesota. He is preceded in death by his wife Anna in 1997, brother Marvin Swenson, and sister Gladys Larson. Funeral service for Clarence Swenson will be 11AM, Thursday October 3rd at Rush River Lutheran Church of rural Baldwin-River Falls with Pastor Michael T. Harty officiating. Visitation will be one half hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Burial will be in the church cemetery with casketbearers being Bob Traynor, Roy Tranyor, Carroll Klanderman, Jerry Mattison, Don Schumacker, Buddy Schumacker. Behnke, Anna Marie age 83 of Hudson died September 25, 2002.

Anna Marie Behnke, age 83 of Hudson and formerly of Sheboygan, WI, died Wednesday morning, September 25, 2002 at the Christian Community Home of Hudson. Anna was born on March 18, 1919 in Lawrence, Kansas; the daughter of Charles and Mary (Matelko) Hayon. At the age of 8, she and her family moved to Sheboygan, Wisconsin. On July 8, 1943, she was united in marriage to Julius Oliver Behnke in Sheboygan. This union was blessed with children; Judy Ann and Barbara May. Anna was a dedicated homemaker, cherishing her time spent with her daughters as she took great pride in having a close knit family. She had a green thumb as she had a beautiful garden; especially tomatoes. She was a gifted seamstress and knitter making afghans for her family or mittens for the kids. Her family couldn’t wait for Saturdays, as Saturday was baking day where the smell of fresh baked bread and homemade cookies or pies filled the house. She also loved fishing on Lake Michigan with Oliver and catching and eating fresh lake perch. She was an active faith member of the St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. Anna moved to Hudson in 1996 to be closer to family. Anna leaves to celebrate her life her daughters Judy Ann (David) Gabrielse of Grand Rapids, Michigan and their children Randy, Greg, Kevin, Steve, and Dan, daughter Barbara May (Keith) Avise of River Falls and their children Roxanne and Rochelle, two great granddaughters Maria and Cierra. She is preceded in death by her husband Oliver, brothers Jim, Fritz, Charles, John, and Bill. Visitation will be from 2:00-3:30 PM with an informal memorial service beginning at 2:30 PM Saturday October 12, 2002 at St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Sheboygan with interment at Greenlawn Memorial Garden Cemetery. Funeral services have been entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson 386-3725.

Milder, Mary Ellen age 86 of Hudson and formerly of Iowa died Thursday Sept. 19th.

Mary Ellen Milder, age 86 of Hudson and formerly of Spirit Lake, Iowa, died Thursday morning, September 19, 2002 at the Hudson Medical Center following an illness with pneumonia. Mary Ellen was born on May 9, 1916 in Marion, Iowa; the daughter of Edward T. and Ida (Convey) Forbes. On April 19, 1941, she was united in marriage to James F. Milder in Marion, Iowa. This union would be blessed with children Jo Ellen, Bill, Jeanne, and Anne. Mary Ellen enjoyed traveling, collecting antiques, and cooking for family and friends. She is survived by her children JoEllen (Tom) Osterlind of Portland, Oregon, Bill (Connie) Milder of Hudson, Jeanne (Rod) Rogert of Ames, Iowa, Anne (Bob) Jameson of Ft. Worth, Texas, grandchildren Sarah and Kirsten Osterlind, AJ and Matthew Milder, Bradley, Simone, Mackenzie, and Andrea Jameson. Her husband Jim preceded her in death in 1993. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10AM Saturday, September 21, 2002 at St. Frances of Assisi Catholic Church in Lake St. Croix Beach, Minnesota. Officiating will be Father Ryan Erickson. Organist Jerry Bonstrom accompanied the cantor singing of Linda Mealey Lohman. Burial will be in the St. Cecelia’s cemetery in Algona, Iowa. Visitation will be on Friday from 6 to 8PM at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson. Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers to Hudson Health Foundation in care of the Milder Family at 329 Soo Line Road, Hudson, Wisconsin 54016.

Zastrow, Donald longtime Hudson resident died September 17, 2002

Donald F. Zastrow, age 72, of Hudson died suddenly on Tuesday, 9/17/2002 of an aneurysm. He was born in Chicago on 12/29/1929 to Frank and Mary (Conley) Zastrow. After graduating from high school he enlisted and proudly served in the 101st Airborne Division of the Army. After an honorable discharge, he apprenticed and worked as a printer. On June 11, 1955 he married Anne May (Nan) Connolly. He moved to Hudson, Wisconsin in 1966 to start a 28-year career in the Printing Products Division of 3M. Don is survived by his loving wife Nan; children Dorothy (Calvin) Hulburt, Barbara (Brian) Moelter, Donna Zastrow, Donald (Amy) and Patrick (Tiffany); grandchildren Dominic Zappa, Katie Zappa, Jacci Zappa, Laura Moelter, Ian Zastrow, Gabe Zastrow and Connor Zastrow; and sister Dorothy (Charles) Pohl. A wake will be held on Thursday, 9/19/2002, 4:00 - 8:00, at the OConnell Family Funeral Home in Hudson, Wisconsin. The funeral service will be held on Friday, 9/20/2002, at 11:00 at the Christ Center Assembly of God in Hudson. Services entrusted to The OConnell Family Funeral Home of Hudson. 715-386-3725

Helen D. McKenzie age 84 longtime resident of Hudson.

Helen D. McKenzie, 84, passed away Monday September 16, 2002 at Hudson Hospital. Helen was born March 12, 1918 in Hudson the daughter of Andrew and Gertrude “Gertie” (Christenson) Flattum. She attended 4th Street Elementary School and graduated from Hudson High School in 1936. She married Alton A. “Mac” McKenzie August 20, 1949 at First Presbyterian Church in Stillwater. Upon completion of high school she was employed by the St. Croix County Register of Deeds, later, she and her husband Al “Mac” and her brother Christ Flattum owned Quality Food Market. She is survived by her children Mary (Tom) Olkowski, Maeta (Mark) Gherty, step-daughter Juanice (Bennie) Newman; grandchildren Molly and Corbin Treacy, Collin and Megan Gherty, step-grandchildren Nancy (Wayne) Smith, Ben (Brenda) Newman; great-grandchildren Lesley (Keith) Griffin, Todd Smith and Lee Newman; sister Mary (Leroy) Jackman; nieces Marcia (Bill) Edwards, Carla (Rich) Timmerman, Rhonda Jackman, Lois (Dick) Knorr. Helen is preceded in death by her parents, husband Al, brothers Lee, Alfred, Carl and Christ Flattum, sister Gladyce Flattum Stenberg. Memorial service will be 7:00 PM Friday September 20, 2002 at O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson with Pastor Joanne Sorenson officiating. Visitation one hour prior to service time. The family requests memorials in Helen’s memory to the Hudson Community Fund.

Gladys Graw age 86 formerly of LaCrosse, passed away Wednesday September 11, 2002.

Gladys K.Graw, age 86, formerly of LaCrosse, died Wednesday September 11, 2002 at Christian Community Home in Hudson. Gladys was born March 25, 1916 in Ettrick, WI the daughter of Julius and Mabel (Onsrud) Johnson. She married Alois W. Graw in 1938 and to this union they were blessed with three sons Richard, Paul and Donald. She is survived by her sons Richard (Barbara) Graw of LaCrosse and Donald (Karin) Graw of Hudson; four grandchildren Kara (Chip) GrawOsburn, Christopher, Ashley and Marc Graw. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Al in October of 1971, son Paul in February of 1971, brother Millard Johnson in August 1988. Private memorial service will be held in LaCrosse. The family requests memorials in memory of Gladys to the American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in LaCrosse or Bethel Lutheran Church in Hudson. Michael Ling age 47 of River Falls, WI died suddenly Friday August 30, 2002

Michael S. Ling, age 47 of River Falls, WI, died suddenly from a massive heart attack, Friday August 30, 2002. Michael was born March 21, 1955 in East St. Paul, the son of Herbert C. and Florence (Stachkowski) Ling. He was a longtime employee of 3M, he was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved riding his Harley. He is survived by his wife Janet Hunteman, father-in-law Myron Hunteman, brother Richard (Sandra) Ling, sisters Maryanne Ling and Peggy (Doug) McAtee, niece and nephew Ashley and Chad Ling. Services will be 7:00 PM, Tuesday September 3, 2002, visitation will be from 4:00 PM until time of service on Tuesday at O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 520 So. 11th Street, Hudson WI 715-386-3725.

Christine John age 42 and her son Bryon age 16 of Hammond died as a result of a auto accident on August 30.

Christine Marie John age 42 and Bryon Andrew John age 15, mother and son of Hammond died Friday afternoon, August 30 near Hammond as a result of an automobile accident. Christine was born on October 25, 1959 in Baldwin, Wisconsin; the daughter of Roger and June (Strese) Lindquist. She attended St. Croix Central elementary and St. Croix Central High School graduating in 1977. Following this, she attended the University of Wisconsin – Stout. On November 12, 1977, she was united in marriage to Randy John at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Baldwin. This union would be blessed with children Jeffery, Melissa, and Bryon. In 1977, she and Randy founded the RC Flooring Company. Christine was instrumental in the business performing bookkeeping and other administrative tasks. Working with the family business enabled Christine to tend to her children and family at home. By all means, she was a true homemaker. Christine was a dedicated 4H general leader. She took great pride in her children’s events and always being part of them. She also enjoyed sewing as she made memory quilts and cooking for her family. She was a gifted gardener in both vegetables and flowers, and was an avid camper and fisherman. She also enjoyed riding Harley Davidsons with Randy and close friends. Christine is survived by her husband Randy, son Jeffery, daughter Melissa all of Hammond, parents Roger and June Lindquist of Hammond, sisters Terry (Christopher Caster) Lindquist of Coralville, Iowa, Cathy (John Docken) Lindquist of Marshfield, MN., Denise (Mark) Goldsworthy of Three Lakes, WI., nieces Molly and Elizabeth Goldsworthy, nephews Zachary and Lucas Goldsworthy, Benjamin Caster, Parents-in-law David and Anita John of River Falls, great grandma Muriel Kinne of Hammond, great uncle Clifford Solstad of Woodville, great aunt Inez Afdahl of Baldwin. Christine is preceded in death with her son Bryon, and grandparents Roy and Sadie Lindquist, Walter and Frances Strese, cousins Scott and Rob Lindquist, aunt Sylvia McNerney, great aunt Helene Solstad, and great uncle Albin Solstad. Bryon John age 15 of Hammond and his mother Christine John age 42 of Hammond died as a result of a auto accident on August 30.

Bryon Andrew John age 15, and Christine Marie John age 42, mother and son of Hammond died Friday afternoon, August 30 near Hammond as a result of an automobile accident. Bryon was born on September 2, 1986 in Stillwater, MN; the son of Randy and Christine (Lindquist) John. Growing up in Hammond, he received his education from St. Croix Central as he would have been a sophomore this upcoming school year. Although he was a student, he enjoyed helping his parents with the family flooring business or helping grandpa and grandma (Roger and June Lindquist) around their farm. Bryon truly loved the outdoors. He was an avid gun/bow and muzelloading hunter and fisherman. He was ever so proud training his hunting companion dog Stephania. It meant so much to Bryon when his great uncle Clifford Solstad passed on his stuffed animal collection to him. Bryon himself collected John Deer toy tractors and farm sets. He was a gifted artist who enjoyed painting and drawing. He was a member of 4H and school band as he loved to play the drums. He also was a past member of the St. Croix Central wrestling and football team, and enjoyed golfing. Bryon is survived by his dad Randy, brother Jeffery, sister Melissa all of Hammond, grandparents Roger and June Lindquist of Hammond, David and Anita John of River Falls, aunts and uncles Terry (Christopher Caster) Lindquist of Coralville, Iowa, Cathy (John Docken) Lindquist of Marshfield, MN., Denise (Mark) Goldsworthy of Three Lakes, WI., Benita (Thomas) Close of River Falls, Greg (Cathy) John of Hammond, Michael (Phyliss) John of Hudson, Rodney John of Hastings, MN., Michelle John of Somerset, WI., Charles (Abigail) John of North Hudson, Ellen Kaiser of River Falls, great grandma Muriel Kinne of Hammond, great uncle Clifford Solstad of Woodville, great aunt Inez Afdahl of Baldwin.
