Daniel Goodenough, former circuit judge

Daniel J. Goodenough, a Kenton County Circuit Judge for nearly 20 years, died Monday at his home in Latonia. He was 75.

Mr. Goodenough was devoted to his children and grandchildren, said his son, Joseph P. Goodenough of Latonia, and known most for his sense of humor and his patience.

"He was extremely patient. He had nine kids, " Goodenough said.

Mr. Goodenough served in the Marines during the Korean War, rising to the rank of captain.

He went to college at Villa Madonna College -- now Thomas More College -- and studied law at the University of Cincinnati.

He started practicing law in 1956, and was appointed circuit judge in 1975.

He won a full term that November, and ran unopposed in 1983 and 1991. He retired from the bench in 1993.

At 6 feet, 6 inches tall, Mr. Goodenough made an impressive figure in his judicial robes.

He was following in the footsteps of his father, the late Kenton Circuit Judge Joseph P. Goodenough.

When Daniel Goodenough retired in 1993, the Kentucky Bar Association wanted to have a dinner in his honor, but he declined.

A member of Holy Cross Church in Latonia, Mr. Goodenough also volunteered in the school cafeteria.

Surviving in addition to his son are his wife, Helen V. Martineau Goodenough; daughters, Ann Lewin of Edgewood, Kate Hackett of Latonia, Susan Thiem of Cold Spring and Amy Hiles of Independence; sons, Michael C. Goodenough of Latonia, Patrick L. Goodenough of St. Louis, Daniel P. Goodenough of Burlington and Thomas A. Goodenough of Wilder; 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at Holy Cross Church, Latonia.

Entombment will be in Mother of God Mausoleum, Fort Wright.

Memorials are suggested to Missy Goller Scholarship Fund, in care of Holy Cross High School, 3617 Church St., Covington, Ky. 41015; or St. Charles Care Center, 500 Farrell Drive, Covington, Ky. 41011. Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia, is handling arrangements.

Mary Ella Bickers, 88, of Newport, died at 8:29 p.m. Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a retired supervisor with Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport. Her husband, Leonard Bickers, died in 1971. A son, Leonard Bickers, died in 1996, and a daughter, Wanda Crawford, died in 2002.

Survivors include a sister, Elaine Brynteson of Newport; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.

Delbert Bray, 87, of Fort Wright, died at 9:33 p.m. Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. He was a retired brakeman with B&O; Railroad Co., a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church in Covington and the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen. He was a Merchant Marine of World War II. A daughter, Pauline Barton, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel Throckmorton Bray; a stepson, Allen Orme of St. Louis; a stepdaughter, Barbara Sue Branham of the state of California; a grandchild and a step-grandchild.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Jim Bryant, 66, of Verona, died Monday at Carroll County Hospital, Carrollton. He was a retired maintenance mechanic with Sara Lee Corp.

Survivors include his wife, Janice Lawson Bryant; a son, Terry Furnish of Verona; daughters, Kim Gripshover of Crittenden, Tina Furnish of Verona and Sheila Foister of Danville; a brother, Jack Bryant of Cincinnati; six grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 6612 Dixie Highway, Suite 2A, Florence, Ky. 41042.

Ronald Conway Sr., 68, of Covington, died at 11:20 a.m. Thursday at his home. He was a retired truck driver with L&N; Concrete and an Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Ann Conway; sons, Ronald Conway Jr. and Darrin Lee Conway, both of Covington; a daughter, Mary Lou Riggs of Newport; brothers, Carl Thomas Conway of Latonia and George A. Conway of Edgewood; a sister, Elsie Imfeld of Jacksonville, Fla.; 10 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a step-grandchild.

Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 4 p.m. Thursday.

David Ray Craven, 58, of Madisonville, Tenn., formerly of Ludlow, died at 12:22 p.m. Sunday at Sweetwater, Tenn., Hospital. He was a railroad engineer with C&O; Railroad and an Army veteran. His wife, Paulette Fussnecker Craven, died in 2002.

Survivors include daughters, Kelly Craven Bloom of Burlington and Krista Craven of Villa Hills; stepdaughters, Lisa Sargent of Carmel, Ind., Pamela Palmarini of Cincinnati and Alexia Henke of New York City; a stepsons, Patrick Henke of Chattanooga, Tenn.; a sister, Patricia Jean Gibson of Edgewood; his fiance, Bobbi Ramsdell of Edmondson, Alberta, Canada; a grandson and three step-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Ludlow. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Cremation will be at Southwest Ohio Cremation Co., Milford, Ohio. Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association, 2936 Vernon Place, Cincinnati, Ohio 45219.

Hattie R. Campbell Hughes, 91, of Hebron, died at 8:10 a.m. Monday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. She was a teacher with Goodridge Elementary School, Hebron. Her husband, Leslie Hughes, died in 1981.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Inabnitt of Hebron, and two grandsons.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Hebron. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to Hebron Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 92, Hebron, Ky. 41048.

James Swinford Hunt, 77, of Cynthiana, died Monday at Grand Haven Nursing Home, Cynthiana. He was a retired distillery worker and farmer. His wife, Gracie May Debruler Hunt, and a daughter, Wanda Louise Hunt, both preceded him in death.

Survivors include a son, James Thomas Hunt of Harrison County; daughters, Gladys Adams of Johnson County and Alma Faye Evans of Sadieville; brothers, Kirby Hunt of Harrison County and William Alvin Hunt of Fleming County; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Battle Grove Cemetery, Cynthiana. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 508 E. Pike St., Cynthiana, Ky. 41031.

John Edward Loze, 64, of Constance, died at 12:05 p.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired computer technician, a ham radio operator and a member of the Amateur Radio Club.

Memorial services will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Hebron Church of Christ. Memorials are suggested to Cincinnati Zoo., 3400 Vine St., Cincinnati, Ohio 45220; or Krohn Conservatory, 1501 Eden Park Drive, Cincinnati, Ohio 45202. Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Ludlow, is handling arrangements.

Martha J. Martin, 82, of Latonia, died Sunday at the Atria at Summit Hills, Crestview Hills.

Arrangements are pending at Don Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Elsmere.

Jimmie W. Million, 56, of Erlanger, died at 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. He was a disabled receiving clerk with Square D Co.

Survivors include brothers, Jerry Million of Louisville, Jeffrey Million of Carrollton and Joseph Million of Erlanger; and sisters, Joyce Wingate of Independence, Janice VanCleve and Joan Simms, both of Florence.

Private services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill, is handling arrangements.

Marie Moore, 81, of St. Petersburg, Fla., formerly of Florence, died Sunday at Maria Manor Nursing Home, St. Petersburg. Her husband, William Butler Moore, died in 1984.

Survivors include a son, Gary Moore of Pinellas Park, Fla.; a sister, Delores Fleek of Hebron; two half-sisters and two grandchildren.

Graveside services were Monday at Hopeful Lutheran Cemetery, Florence. Stith Funeral Home, Florence, handled arrangements.

Mary Isabel Stahl, 93, of Fiskburg, formerly of Pendleton County, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. She was a homemaker and a retired cafeteria worker with Simon Kenton High School, and a member of Grassy Creek Christian Church, Demossville, and the Order of the Eastern Star. Her husband, Sylvester Stahl, died in 1994. A daughter, Sarah Reid, also preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Edwin Stahl of Demossville; daughters, Isabel Morehead of Demossville and Helen Holtcamp of Jasper, Tenn.; 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Grassy Creek Christian Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the church. Burial will be in Butler Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Grassy Creek Christian Church, 6884 Ky. 17 N., Demossville, Ky. 41033. Peoples Funeral Home, Butler, is handling arrangements.

James P. Stallings Jr., 80, of Ludlow, died Saturday at University Hospital, Cincinnati.

Arrangements are pending at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Ludlow.

Lillian Elizabeth Widrig, 92, of Cold Spring, died at 10:35 p.m. Saturday at Wesley Hall, Cincinnati. She was a retired seamstress with Hyde Park Clothes, Newport, and a member of the Campbell County Democratic Women's Club. Her husband, Thomas A. Widrig, died in 1968.

Survivors include a daughter, Lois Howard of Cold Spring; a stepdaughter, Mary Kenning of Fort Wright; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas, is handling arrangements.

Richard C. Workman, 75, of Florence, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired milkman with Sealtest, a security guard with DHL in Burlington and Turfway Park in Florence. A daughter, Marilyn Bettis, died earlier this year.

Survivors include his wife, Jane Cunningham Workman; daughters, Kimberly Workman of Florence and Lori Sterling of Walton; sons, Richard Workman Jr., Jeffrey Workman and Robert Workman, all of Florence, and Reginald Workman of Goshen, Ohio; a sister, Lela Bernice Piper of Zanesville, Ohio; brothers, Maxwell Workman and Ralph Ewing Workman, both of Dry Ridge; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Burial will be in Hopeful Lutheran Cemetery, Florence. Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association, 1885 Dixie Highway, Suite 250, Fort Wright, Ky. 41011.
