Sprunck, Judith of Hudson died November 26.
Judith Kay Sprunck, age 58, died at her home in Hudson Tuesday November 26, 2002. Judith was born April 18, 1944 in Long Prairie, MN, the daughter of Herman and Norma (Lemke) Hendrickson. She attended Long Prairie grade school and graduated from St. Paul High School in 1962. On June 12, 1971 she married
Wayne Sprunck in St. Paul, MN and to this union they were blessed with two daughters Jenny and Amy. Judith’s hobbies were crafts and stamping. Survivors are her husband Wayne, daughters Jenny (Richard Diaz) Sprunck, of S. St. Paul, MN, Amy (Andy) Roed of River Falls, WI, grandchildren Richardo, Lorenzo and Micah, her brother Charles Hendrickson of Forest Lake, MN. Memorial services will be 2:00 PM, Saturday November 30, 2002 at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 485 Jacobs Lane, Hudson. Officiating Elder will be Lester Ploen. Visitation one hour prior to service at the church. Services are entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson.
Donkersgoed, Aletta age 83 of Baldwin died November 26.
Aletta Henrietta (DeFries) Donkersgoed, age 83 of Baldwin and formerly of Amery, died early Tuesday morning, November 26, 2002 at the Baldwin Care Center. She had been a patient at the care Center following an illness with cancer. Aletta was born on December 24, 1918 in Baldwin, Wisconsin; the daughter of Albert and Hanna (Voskuil) DeFries. Aletta’s mother died days after her birth following complications of childbirth while her father was serving in World War I in France. During this time, her aunt and Uncle Dennis and Lena Voskuil raised her. Aletta attended Baldwin Christian School north of Baldwin prior to graduating from Baldwin High School in 1936. She would meet Melvin Donkersgoed at a First Reformed function, and would later wed on August 27, 1941. This union would be blessed with children; Carol, Lynn, Mark, Lee, Maribeth, David, and Scott. Aletta was a proud homemaker while Melvin tended to the fields and farm. She also worked part-time as a nurses Aid when the Baldwin Hospital first opened and sold Avon products for a few years. When they retired from farming, they moved to Amery and lived for seven years. Melvin suffered a stroke and died in 1993. Aletta returned to Baldwin and lived in the Cedarcrest and Birchwood Apartments. Aletta’s sewing talents were her biggest enjoyment next to her family. She was an avid quilter who loved sewing and quilting. Many quilts, wedding dresses, and outfits were made for family. She proudly made a quilt for each of her of children when they were married. She is member of the First Reformed Church and a past member of the National Farm Organization. She is survived by her children Carol Bergmann and her children Mike, Tim, Kerri, and Chris of White Bear Lake, MN., Lynn (Carol) Donkersgoed and their children Jim and Michelle of Eagan, MN., Mark Donkersgoed of Baldwin, Lee (Terri) Donkersgoed and their children Ashlee and Corey of Cambridge, MN., Scott (Janice) Donkersgoed and their children Brandon and Ryan of Hammond, great grandchildren Timmy, Darla, Nathan, Adam, Amberlyn, Alyshia, Kevin, half brother Keith DeFries of Springfield, South Dakota, half sister Alva Shutt DeFries of Mesa, Arizona, raised with/as brother Wallace (Marion) Voskuil of CO., and sister-in-law Rose Schug of Baldwin. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant children Maribeth and David, great grandchild Amanda, and raised as/with brothers Clarence, Glen, and Dean. Funeral service will be 1:00PM Friday November 29, 2002 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Baldwin. Interment will be in the Baldwin Cemetery. Zilka, Ronald, age 62 of North Hudson died Nov. 21, 2002
Ronald W. Zilka, age 61, passed away peacefully at his home in Hudson, WI, on Thursday, November 21, 2002 surrounded by his loving family. Ron was born April 17, 1941 the son of Mac and Genevieve (Heroux) Zilka in Minneapolis, MN. He graduated from Brainerd High School in 1959. On July 21, 1962 he married
Nancy Sandberg in Brainerd, MN and to this union they were blessed with two children Stephen and Kristine. After graduating from the University of Minnesota in 1970, he worked as an accountant for Hamm’s Brewery. In 1974, Ron and his family moved to Crosslake, MN, where he was employed by Scorpion Snowmobiles. They moved to Wilton, IA, in 1981 where he worked for North Star Steel as an accounting manager. He was transferred to St. Paul, MN, in 1984 and was the shipping superintendent. He enjoyed boating, fishing, golf, snowmobiling and dancing. Surviving are his wife Nancy, son Stephen (Rebecca) Zilka of Crosslake, MN; daughter Kristine (Kelly) Greer of Hiram, GA; grandchildren Rebecca “Ivelisse”, Tania “Suleicka”, Hannah and Kaleigh, great-grandchildren Eli, Elijah, Marcus and Taina; his sister Barbara Christensen of Inver Grove Heights, MN; niece Laurie (Craig) Bruley of Somerset, WI, nephew Chuck (Lori) Christensen of Hastings, MN. Funeral services were held Tuesday November 26, 2002 at O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson, Pastor Dennis Nelson officiating. Stephen Zilka, Kelly Greer, Charlie Frey, Jim Murray, Chuck Christensen, Sean Dean and Howard Drager served as pallbearers. Services were entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson.
Marson, Esther E. age 93, of Woodville passed away Monday November 18, 2002.
Esther Elizabeth Marson, age 93, passed away Monday November 18, 2002 at Park View Nursing Home in Woodville. Esther is the daughter of Maurice and Josephine (Murray) Thomas born on October 10, 1909 in the township of El Paso, Wisconsin. Esther attended County School and graduated from Elmwood High School, at the graduation commencement she met Herbert Marson, they were married
October 26, 1927. When they were first married
they lived in the Elmwood area, they moved to Eau Claire to farm for awhile, then moved to Woodville where Herb worked as a beekeeper, together they kept a thousand colonies of bees, Esther helped helped with the bee keeping and took care of the children Herb Jr., Gaynor “Bud” and Carol. Esther was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Hammond where she was active in the women’s group and in the Park View Guild. For a time she worked as a cook at the Senior Center in Woodville. Esther is survived by her daughter Carol (Alfred) Kongshaug of Baldwin, son Gaynor “Bud” ( Mavis) of New Richmond, daughter-in-law Derith Marson of Baldwin, 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Herb Sr., and son Herb Jr. Mass of Christian Burial was Thursday November 21, 2002 at St. Mary’s Church in Hammond with Father William Murphy officiating. Deb O’Keefe was the vocalist accompanied by Mary Cody on the organ. Burial was in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Derek Marson, Michael Kongshaug, Scott Marson, David Grass, Byran Grass and Brandon Marson, honorary pallbearers were Mark Kongshaug and David Marson. Services were entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Baldwin.
Dahl, Stacey Lee & her husband Gary Alflen of Crystola, Colorado, formerly of Hudson died November 7, 2002
Stacy Lee Dahl was born August 10, 1963 To Roger and Floy Dahl in Hudson. Gary Allen Alflen was born October 27, 1955 To Gerald and Marlene Alflen in Grand Rapids, MI. Stacy and Gary were married
on June 3, 1989 and moved to Colorado in 1992. They were employed by EDS, a Colorado Springs computer data firm. Stacy and Gary were very athletic and enjoyed many outdoor activities together, including mountain biking and sking.Stacy is survived by her parents; two sisters, Caroline (Brad) Qualey and Holly Dahl; 3 nieces and nephews and a twin niece and nephew. Gary is survived by his parents, two sisters, Sue Roersma and Cheryl Dabkowski; one brother, Brian Alflen; and nine nieces and nephews. Stacy and Gary are also remembered by many Friends. Memorial service will be held Friday November 22, 2002, 11 A. M. in the Bethel Lutheran Church, Hudson.
Volker, Charlotte age 84 of Hudson died November 18.
Charlotte Reed Volker, 84 of Hudson, passed away Monday November 18, 2002 at Hudson Hospital. Charlotte was born March 7, 1918 in Sextonville, Wisconsin the daughter of Earl and Alice (Johnson) Reed. She married
Arthur Volker on June 18, 1937 in Waukon, Iowa he preceded her in death on November 4, 1977. In 1985 she married
Clieve Frazier he preceded her in death December 11, 1989. She was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church, member of Rebecca Lodge Hudson, WI, also a member of Women of the Moose Lodge in Hayward, WI. Charlotte loved her family, catering parties for Charles A. Ward, she worked for Mickelson Drug as a sales clerk and for a time at the Hudson Clinic. She enjoyed knitting, crotcheting many gifts for her family and polka dancing. Survivors are her daughter Earleta “Skip” (Roger) Peterson of Hudson, three grandchildren Lynn (Len) Rude of N. Hudson, David (Cathy) Peterson of Roberts, Lori ( Mark) Zimmermann of Woodbury, MN, five great-grandchildren Robert, David and Samantha Zimmermann, Jason and Elizabeth Rude, two sisters Marolyn (George) Reynolds of Harvard, IL, Rose Mary (Norman) Massoth of Rockford, IL, preceded in death by her parents, husbands, two brothers Wayne and Nolan Dunn. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Thursday November 21, 2002 at Bethel Lutheran Church, burial at Willow River Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 PM Wednesday November 20, 2002 at O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson and one hour prior to service time at the church. Casketbearers will be Dick Newberg, Jason Rude, George and Don King, Ron Pankratz and Bob Norvold. Memorials are preferred.
Penman, Gordon of Hudson died November 14, 2002
Gordon Penman, age 84 Hudson, former World War II Veteran, Bronze Star recipient, and Prisoner of War, died Thursday evening, November 14, 2002 at the Christian Community Home. Gordon was born August 31, 1918 in Hudson; the son of James and Mayme (Christie) Penman. On February 8, 1940 he enlisted in the Armed Forces where he served in the Army. During his service, he was awarded three Bronze Stars and other decorations as he served as a Prisoner of War during World War II. He was honorably discharged November 15, 1945 at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin. Organist Elsie Sandquist accompanied the Hope Choir singing. Burial will be in the St. Patrick’s Catholic cemetery with casketbearers being his sons. In honor of his unselfish dedication to our country, the Hudson V.F.W. Post 2115 will pay tribute with full military honors. Gilbert, Norman, age 91 of Hudson died November 5, 2002
Norman R. Gilbert age 91 of Hudson died Tuesday November 5, 2002 at the Christian Community Home of Hudson. Norman Ralph Gilbert was born on September 3, 1911; . Norman was born to Henry E. and Sarah (Nelson) in their farm home in the Town of Hudson. He attended Prairie Lawn grade school, Hudson High and graduated from Roberts High School in 1929. Mary M. Ryan of River Falls became his life partner on May 20, 1939 at St. Patrick’s Church in Hudson. They moved to South Eleventh Street in 1940 and raised their family at this location. During the 1930’s he worked on the family farm and began a career in the transportation industry in 1935 by hauling machinery, crops and cattle. He continued in the transportation business until his retirement in 1975. The companies he owned and operated were Gilbert Truck Lines, Oligney Motor Express and Valley Cartage. Norman ‘s involvement in the community included his membership in Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, Elks, Hudson School Board and United Methodist Church Board. After his retirement in 1975 he resided in Meza, AZ until 1997 at which time he returned to Hudson and was a resident at CCH until his death. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Mary (1991), infant grandson Michael Gilbert(1982), sister Dorothy Seidl (1989) and brother Lloyd(1998). He is survived by four children, Harry(Linda) Gilbert and Jerry(Sue) Gilbert of Hudson, Bonnie Aubin of Somerset, Bob(Mary) Gilbert of Houlton, sister Vivian Brown of Lee’s Summit, MO., and sister-in-law Lucille Gilbert of Hudson, as well as nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren and nearly forty nieces and nephews. Memorial service 11:00 AM Saturday December 14, 2002 United Methodist Church in Hudson. Funeral services have been entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson. Skalicky, Leonard age 82 of Hudson, died February 7.
Leonard Vincent Skalicky, age 82 of Hudson died Friday morning February 7, 2003 at Greeley Healthcare following a brief illness. Leonard was born on October 8, 1920 in Bejou, Minnesota; the son of William and Pauline (Pollack) Skalicky. He received his elementary schooling in Bejou prior to graduating from Mahnoman High School in Minnesota. Following this, he furthered his education at Fargo College. He enlisted in the armed forces where he served in the Army. He served as sergeant during World War II prior to his honorable discharge. On April 11, 1942, he was united in marriage to Angela Couette at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Minneapolis. This union would be blessed with children Judy, Jan, and Jackie. Leonard began his career in the refrigeration business with American Refrigeration in St. Paul. The company changed names to Ryan Industry. Following a company fire, the company contracted with Norlake Refrigeration in Hudson. Leonard oversaw the product manufacturing and process with Norlake. He impressed Harry Blakeman who would hire him for his own. Leonard became Director of Operations and would be instrumental in refrigeration design. He would develop a manual, before the computer design era, on various refrigeration equipment. He retired from Norlake in 1987 following 33 years of dedicated service. Leonard enjoyed woodworking as he made bird houses, bird feeders, and other knick knacks and carved a Wells Fargo Stagecoach. He also took great pride in his model train collection which he built an elaborate setup to operate. He also collected steins and liked fishing at an earlier age. He was a proud member of the Hudson VFW and was past President of the Village of North Hudson. Leonard is survived by his wife of 60 years Angela, daughters, Judy (Don) Zappa of Hudson, Jan Doonan of Hudson, Jackie (Robert) Borglund, of Cumberland, WI., 6 Grandchildren Lisa Zappa, Gina Zappa, Steve Doonan, Jeff Doonan, Charlie Doonan, and Jessica DeGidio, 3 great grandchildren Abby, Hunter, and Haley Doonan, Sisters, Loretta (Owen “Bud”) Gjerdingen, Leone (John) Huggins. His parents, granddaughter Pamela and sister Rosella precede him in death. Mass of Christian Burial will be/was 10:00AM Monday February 10, 2003 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Hudson with Father Peter Szleszinski officiating. The Church Hope Choir provided music. Burial with full military honors provided by the Hudson VFW will be/was in the St. Patrick’s Catholic cemetery with his grandchildren having the honor of being casketbearers; Lisa Zappa, Gina Zappa, Steve Doonan, Jeff Doonan, Charlie Doonan, and Jessica DeGidio. Visitation will be/was Sunday from 5 until 7PM with a prayer service at 6:45PM at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson.
Ahlquist, Phyllis age 79 former Hudson resident died February 8.
Phyllis A. Ahlquist, age 79 of Rhinelander, formerly of Hudson died peacefully Saturday February 8, 2003 at the Christian Community Home. Phyllis was born on September 28, 1923 in Appleton, Wisconsin; the daughter of Earl and Beatrice (Moody) Knowles. She received her elementary schooling and high school education in Weyauwega, Wisconsin. Following this, she furthered her education at Stout Institute (currently UW Stout) in Menomonie with a degree in home economics. Following this, she worked a few years as a Home Economics County Home Agent for Keewaunee County, Wisconsin. On June 11, 1949, she was united in marriage to Clifford Ahlquist in Weyauwega. This union would be blessed with sons Richard and James. Phyllis used her education by becoming a school teacher in home economics. She worked a few years in Rheinlander and over twenty years for the Hudson High School Home EC Department (1960 to 1981). While living in Hudson, she was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Hudson and was active in their Lady’s Guild. Phyllis is survived by her husband Clifford, sons Richard (Shelly) Ahlquist of Woodbury, MN., James (Cyndee) Ahlquist of North Mankato, MN., grandchildren Lindsay, Robin, Clarissa, and Carmen Ahlquist, sisters Jane Ritchie of Weyauwega, and Ruth (Carl) Scholz of Sturgeon Bay, WI. Her parents precede her in death. A private funeral service is scheduled in Rhinelander. Funeral services have been entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson.

Dorothy Fromm age 92 of Boyceville died Saturday February 8, 2003 at Signet healthcare in New Richmond. Dorothy is survived by children Roger, Ruth, Chuck, and Esther. Dorothy is a former member of the Methodist Church in Connorsville. A private graveside service is planned for Mound cemetery in Boyceville.
