William J. Fields, 70, veteran, groundskeeper William J. Fields, of Morning View, a Korean War veteran and a retired groundskeeper at Spring Grove cemetery in Cincinnati, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Hospital South in Edgewood. He was 70.
Mr. Fields was an outdoorsman and especially enjoyed gardening, hunting and trapping.
During his service in the U.S. Army, he was stationed in Germany as well as Korea. He was a member of the American Legion.
"He was a real generous person, " said a son, James Fields of Morning View. "He would help anybody he could. Even if he didn't have much, he would share it with somebody who needed help.
"If you didn't have a place to stay, he would let you stay all night at his house. He never denied anybody in need. I couldn't have asked for a better father."
Mr. Fields also enjoyed reading and was especially fond of mysteries.
He was an ardent sports fan who rooted for the Reds and Bengals.
Other survivors include sons Oakley Fields of Morning View, Tommy Fields of Taylor Mill and William Ray Fields of Oregon, and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m Friday at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery.

Mary Barbara Cress, 68, of Burlington, died Monday in Tijuana, Mexico.
Arrangements are pending at Stith Funeral Home, Florence.
Elizabeth "Shine" Strahm Day, 90, of Bellevue, died Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a binder with American Book Co., Cincinnati. Her husband, Charles C. Day, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a nephew, Richard Perin of Villa Hills.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at A.C. Dobbling and Son Funeral Home, Bellevue. Visitation will begin there at 1 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.
Charles F. Doll Sr., 89, of Falmouth, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
Arrangements are pending at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth.
Virginia Lee Duckworth, 85, of Fort Thomas, died at 11:10 a.m. Tuesday at Highlands of Fort Thomas nursing home. She was a retired secretary with the board of directors of Kentucky Enterprise Savings and Loan, Newport, and a member of St. John United Church of Christ, Newport. She was a member of the church SWANA group and Life Partners, and Southgate Super Seniors. Her husband, John W. Duckworth, died in 1996.
Survivors include nieces, Lois Almoslecher of Fort Thomas and Gail Miller of Highland Heights.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. John United Church of Christ, Newport. Visitation will begin there at 1 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to St. John United Church of Christ Music Fund, 415 Park Ave., Newport, Ky. 41071.
Donald Lee Edmonds, 44, of Villa Hills, died Monday at his home. He was an electrcian with the Covington Board of Education.
Survivors include sons, Donald Lee Edmonds Jr. of Cincinnati and Jefferson Blaine Edmonds of Covington; his parents, Wilma J. Eubank Edmonds and Blaine Edmonds Sr., both of Villa Hills; sisters, Gloria Robinson and Theresa Payne, both of Covington, and Tammy Plagge of Burlington; and brothers, Blaine Edmonds Jr. of Erlanger, Robert W. Edmonds of Belleview, Bernard A. Edmonds of Ludlow and James Blaine Edmonds of Covington.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright. William A. Eschenbach, 74, of Burlington, died at 11:40 a.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired supervisor with Ilsco Corp. in Norwood, Ohio, and a member of Belleview Baptist Church and Tri-City YMCA.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Linneman Eschenbach of Burlington; daughters, Brenda Meyers of Burlington, Tonya Carpenter of Fort Myers, Fla., and Denise Lahni of Cincinnati; sons, Dale Pace and Bryan Truett, both of Cincinnati, and David Pace of Florence; sisters, Rita Ratliff of Florence and Jean Simms of Highland Heights; 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Belleview Baptist Church. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to Belleview Baptist Church Building Fund, 6658 Fifth St., Burlington, Ky. 41005.
Mitzie Lee Frazier Haver, 70, of Williamsburg, Ohio, formerly of Northern Kentucky, died Sept. 23 in Batavia, Ohio. She was a retired employee Hennigan Co.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Haver; sons, Michael Haver and Tracy Haver, both of Williamsburg; a daughter, Melinda of Williamsburg; a sister, Linna Hardtke of Florence; and three grandchildren.
Services were Friday in Williamsburg. Mrs. Haber bequeathed to her body to the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.
George Junior Igo, 58, of Florence, died Tuesday at Florence Park Care Center. He was a self-employed roofer and an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include a son, Matthew Igo of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; daughters, Lori Igo and Jennifer Igo, both of Fort Lauderdale; a sister, Connie Campbell of Covington; and two grandchildren.
Services will be private. Burial will be in Burlington Cemetery. Stith Funeral Home, Florence, is handling arrangements.
Eugene B. Kidd, 74, of Union, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

Gene E. Kreke, 81, of Warsaw, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was a wood finisher with Baldwin Piano, Cincinnati, and a member of Scenic View Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita Little Kreke.
Services will be at noon Thursday at Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home, Verona. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.
Mildred Lucas, 82, of Covington, died Saturday at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport. Arrangements are pending at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington.
Mary Virginia Maines, 78, of Warsaw, died Monday at Gallatin County Health Care Center, Warsaw. She was a retired postal clerk with the Warsaw Post Office. After retirement, she helped at Maines Hardware, Warsaw. She was a member of Warsaw United Methodist Church. Her husband, Perry James Maines, died in 1987.
Survivors include a son, Darrell Maines of Warsaw; a brother, Wilford Wheeler of Warsaw; and a grandson.

Ruth Stegner Pulsfort, 84, of East Lansing, Mich., formerly of Fort Thomas, died Saturday at Sparrow Hospice House, East Lansing. She was vice president of Olsten Temporary Services and a former employee of George P. Stegner Grocery, Fort Thomas. She was a former worthy matron of Fort Thomas Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the May Festival Chorus and Christ Church United Church of Christ, Fort Thomas. Her husband, Ralph Pulsfort, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Sylvia S. Stevens of East Lansing; a stepson, James Pulsfort of Edgewood; a brother, George Stegner of Charlotte, N.C.; three grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Christ Church United Church of Christ. Memorials are suggested to Christ Church United Church of Christ, 15 S. Wanda Butler Stephens, 89, of San Antonio, formerly of Walton, died Friday at Methodist Specialty and Transplant Hospital, San Antonio. She was a former nurse's aide with St. Charles Care Center, Covington. Her husband, Howard A. Stephens, died in 2000.
Survivors include daughters, Myra Jeanne Stephens Scott of Lutz, Fla., Mona Gail Stephens McDonald of San Antonio and Sandra Lee Stephens Murphy of Franklin, Tenn.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
