Clifford G. Jennings, camper, fisherman

Countless camping trips and long afternoons fishing are some of the happy memories Clifford G. Jennings has left his big and growing family.

The father of four, grandfather of eight and great-grandfather of eight with another on the way loved spending time with his family when he wasn't busy hauling people around Northern Kentucky on Greenline street cars and later on TANK buses.

Mr. Jennings, 90, died at 4:15 p.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Hospice in Covington.

He was a Florence resident and Gallatin County native.

"He was my best friend. I always told him, next to God, it's you, Dad, " said daughter Sharon Findley of Erlanger. "There was not one person who thought bad of Clifford Jennings."

Daughter Sheryl Livingston of Florence said Mr. Jennings was a caring and attentive dad, grandfather and great-grandfather.

"He was a great dad. He was always there, always wanted me to go with him everywhere he went, " she said.

Mr. Jennings drove streetcars and buses for 43 years. He served in the Army air corps in the South Pacific during World War II fueling planes.

When he returned to Northern Kentucky, he drove Green Line buses until TANK took over bus service in 1974. He stayed with the same job because he liked working with the public.

"He was a very outgoing person. He never met a stranger, " Mrs. Livingston said.

Mr. Jennings was preceded in death by a son, Michael Jennings, and a daughter, Sheila Stewart.

Other survivors include his wife, Vivian Jennings of Florence, eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation will occur at 10 a.m. Monday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home in Latonia. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Internment will immediately follow at Independence cemetery in Independence.

No memorials are requested.

Lucille Clara Washnock Abdon, 91, of Morning View, died Thursday.

She was a retired assembly line worker for Seagram's Distillery. Formerly a Petersburg resident, she was a member of St. Patrick Church, Independence. Her husband, George W. Abdon, and sons Robert and Eddie Abdon all preceded her in death.

Survivors include her daughter, Sharon Soriano of Dry Ridge; a son, Charles Abdon, Sr., of Morning View; a sister, Matilda Cammack of Erlanger; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick Church. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Monday until the service at the church. Burial will be in Petersburg Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Northern Kentucky 1403 Alexandria Pike, Fort Thomas, Ky., 41075.

Margaret Elizabeth Barnes, 86, of Dayton, formerly of Bellevue, died Thursday at Highlands of Fort Thomas.

She was a practical nurse, and she was a member of St. Anthony Church, Bellevue, the Christians Mother Club and the Ladies Auxiliary. Her husband, Kline Barnes, and son, Edward Barnes, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a stepson, James Barnes of Nashville, Tenn.; stepdaughters, Judy Brockman and Lois Foster, both of Florence; four step grandchildren, three step great-grandchildren and a step-great-great-grandchild.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Divine Mercy Parish, Bellevue. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.

Memorials are suggested to Divine Mercy Parish, 318 Division St., Bellevue, Kentucky 41073.

Shirley Goodridge, 60, of Covington, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North Hospice, Covington.

Survivors include a son, Dave Goodridge of Independence; daughters, Shari Goodridge of Crescent Springs and Dana Grizzell of Elsmere; a brother, James Mastin of Covington; a sister, Carol Schooler of Taylor Mill; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Swindler & Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Taylor Mill.

Vida M. Florence, 88, of Milford, died Sept. 23 at Edgemont Manor, Cynthiana.

She was a homemaker and a member of Milford Christian Church. Her husband, Bill Florence, and a son, Billy Franklin Florence, both preceded her in death.

Survivors include a brother, Earl Lovelace of Falmouth; a sister, Bonnie Moore of Falmouth; and five grandchildren.

Services were held Sept. 27 at Milford Christian Church. Burial was in Neave Cemetery, Falmouth.

Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.

Arrangements were handled by Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Brooksville.

Grace Mae Graves, 92, of Falmouth, died Friday at Clark County Hospital in Winchester.

Arrangements are pending at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth.

Mary Ruth Geise Hamann, 79, of Independence, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a secretary at Early & Daniels Co., Cincinnati, and belonged to St. Cecilia and Mary Queen of Heaven Churches.

A son, Ted Hamann, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband, Edward C. Hamann of Independence; sons, Mike and Paul Hamann, both of Loveland, Ohio, and Jim Hamann of Florence; daughters, Kate Baker of Burlington, Jennifer Densler of Erlanger, Peggy Depperschmidt of West Chester, Ohio, Ruth Due of Independence and Alice Seeger of Union; brothers Tom Geise of Edgewood and Jerry Geise of Union; sisters, Dorothy and Ginny Geise, both of Fort Wright, and Martha Winterhalten of Cincinnati; and 20 grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Cecilia Church, Independence. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary Mausoleum, Fort Mitchell.

Gerald Lee Jackson, 60, of Edgewood, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington. He was a retired truck driver for Kroger and a member of Teamsters Local No. 100.

His wife, Deenie Jackson, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his daughters, Julie M. White of Lakeside Park and Becky Jackson of Edgewood; brothers, Jim Jackson of Crestview Hills and John "Jack" Jackson of Independence; and a grandson.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Nelle B. Kirby, 73, of Florence, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence.

She was a member of Florence United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, William C. Kirby of Florence; a daughter, Cathy Schreiber of Lakeside Park; a son, Donald L. Eger of Mason, Ohio; a stepson, Mark W. Kirby of Burlington; stepdaughters, Ramona C. Lahner of Dry Ridge and Cynthia A. Miles of Russellville; brothers, Ralph L. Marquette of Punta Gorda, Fla., and Rex E. Marquette of Ocala, Fla.; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Florence United Methodist Church. There will be no visitation.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the American Lung Association.

Mildred Emily "Sarg" Lucas, 82, of Covington died Saturday at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport. She was a certified nurse's assistant and a staff dispatcher for St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington, a member of Mother of God Church, a member of the Park Hills V.F.W., and a Women's U.S. Army Air Corp veteran of World War II.

Her husband, Ray M. Lucas, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her daughters, Kathleen Beasley of Covington and Raylene Chambers of Independence; sisters Hilda Detherage and Catherine Michaels, both of Covington; and three grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:05 p.m. Monday at Mother of God Church, Covington. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Monday at the church. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Barbara Ellen McCracken, of Knoxville, Tenn., formerly of Northern Kentucky, died Thursday.

She was a leather cutter for the Knoxville Glove Co.

Survivors include her husband, James Thomas McCracken of Knoxville; a daughter, Karen Margie Rogers of Knoxville; sons, James Edward McCracken of Germany, Michael Thomas McCracken of Richmond, Ind., and Timothy Mark McCracken of Terre Haute, Ind.; sisters, Irene Longsworth of Paris, Dorothy Bond of Winchester, Ruby Ball of Covington, Catherine Humphries of Lexington, Linda Setters of Independence, Betty Haskamp of Fort Thomas, Rosie Chinn and Patty Rich both of Walton, Major Ball of Independence, Jim and Paul Ball both of Taylor Mill; and six grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation begins at noon Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery.

Andrew Thomas Mirick, newborn, died Tuesday at Saint Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

Survivors include his parents, James and Rebecca Mirick of Covington; grandparents, Bill and Margie Tenkman of Villa Hills and Jim and Marilyn Mirick of Florence; an aunt, Alison Mirick of Florence; an uncle, Dan Tenkman of Villa Hills; and a great-grandmother, Dorothy Tenkman of Cincinnati.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Crescent Springs. There is no visitation. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Covington.

Joyce Lee Rice, 67, of Ryland Heights, died Friday at St. Elizabeth South Medical Center in Edgewood. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, Covington. Her husband, Jimmy D. Rice, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her sons, Jimmy C. Rice of Norwood, Bruce A. Rice of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Michael J. Rice of Ludlow, Kevin L. Rice of Blue Ash, Ohio, Brian K. Rice of Covington and Benny C. Rice of Richwood; daughters, Debra Strange of Dry Ridge, Linda Hamilton of Ryland Heights and Nina Kincer of Hebron; sisters, Barbara Carpenter of Elwood, Ind. and Alma Wenstrup of Bellevue; 26 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Immanuel Baptist Church, Covington. Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Taylor Mill.

Allison & Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill, is in charge of arrangements.

Betty Jo Rider, 75, of Latonia, died Wednesday. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church, Covington, and retired from the Kent Corp., Latonia.

Her husband, Everett Jay Rider, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her brothers, George H. Edmondson of Fort Wright and Bill Edmondson of Independence; and 17 nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Napoleon Cemetery, Warsaw. Visitation will be private.

Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia, is in charge of arrangements.

William Edward Schaffer, 67, of Bellevue, died Thursday. He was an insulator and bricklayer.

Survivors include his sons, William James Schaffer and John Schaffer, both of Bellevue, and Michael Schaffer of Burlington; daughters, Susan Schoenbaechler of Louisville and Teresa Brann of Hebron; a brother, Charles Finkenstedt of Latonia; sisters, Edna Deaton of Newport and Agnes Davidson of Crescent Springs; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Henry Church, Elsmere. Visitation begins at 9 a.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Erlanger.

William Kennedy Thomas, 92, of Spring Hill, Fla., formerly of Newport, died Sept. 23 at Hernando Pasco Hospice in Brooksville, Fla.

A Newport chiropractor for more than 30 years, he was a member of St. Johns United Church of Christ. His wife, Garnet Schneider Thomas, and son, William "Bing" Kennedy Thomas, preceded him in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Judi Jones of Spring Hill; a brother, Robert Thomas of Villa Hills; a sister, Corinne Dougherty of Columbus, Ohio; and a grandson.

There will be no service.

Mary Ann Walters Whitfield, 52, of Campbellsburg, died Thursday. She retired from the Carrollton Kroger store and was a member of Worthville Methodist Church.

Her husband, Richard A. Whitfield, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Sara Whitfield of Campbellsburg; sons, Mark Whitfield of Carrollton and Paul Whitfield of Campbellsburg; father, Gus "Jiggs" Walters of Carrollton; brothers, William and Daniel Walters both of Carrollton.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation begins 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Carrollton I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Carrollton.
