Nannie Lucas Cook, 94, was married
for 72 years Nannie Lucas Cook was just 16 years old when she married
Harry Cook in 1925. She became a mother the next year.
They stayed married
for 72 years, until Harry died on Feb. 5, 1997, at age 94.
"She was a devoted and loving wife to my grandfather, " said Bill Cook of Taylor Mill. "I don't think I've ever seen two people as much in love as they were."
Mrs. Cook was also 94 when she died Monday at her home in Taylor Mill.
After her husband died, she was determined to keep on living in the family home. Grandchildren banded together to help make that happen, said grandson Bill Cook. They kept the lawn mowed, cleared snow off the sidewalks and maintained the house.
Mrs. Cook's neighbors on Sunset Drive also checked on her morning and night, her grandson said. "She always said she had the best neighbors in the world, " he said.
Until about two weeks ago, she fixed her own meals and did her own housework, he said.
A homemaker for most of her life, Mrs. Cook worked at one time for the J.C. Penney Co. in Covington. She was a devoted member of the Latonia Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.
Sons Robert Newton Cook and Benjamin William Cook died in 1993 and 1998, respectively.
"She was just a lovely person, one of the most positive and upbeat people I ever knew, " Bill said.
Survivors include four other grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery. Lummie Anderson, 89, of New Liberty, died Saturday at Owenton Manor. She was a former head cook with New Liberty Elementary School, a caregiver for the elderly and a member of New Liberty Second Baptist Church. Her husband, John L. Anderson, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a brother, William Scruggs of New Liberty; nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at McDonald and New Funeral Home, Owenton. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in New Liberty Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to New Liberty Second Baptist Church, P.O. Box 53, New Liberty, Ky. 40355.
Marie Jeanette Bledinger, 79, of Florence, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. She was a factory worker.
Survivors include a daughter, Marie Jump of Florence; a son, Howard Bledinger of Middlesex, N.J.; a brother, Edward Jersek of New Jersey; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Forest Lawn cemetery Chapel, Erlanger. Entombment will be in Forest Lawn Mausoleum, Erlanger. Stith Funeral Home, Florence, is handling arrangements.
Billie Josephine Caddell, 68, of Globe, Ariz., died Saturday at Copper Mount Inn Nursing Home in Globe. She was a retired waitress and homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Jim Pitzer; daughters, Rosanna McGaha of Fort Mitchell and Pam Caddell of Globe; sons, Levi Caddell and David Caddell, both of Globe, and Chesley Caddell of Las Vegas; sisters, Ruth Duncan, Wanda Weaver, Christine LeMaster and Ida Mae Pace, all of Harland, Linea Wagner of Hillsboro, Ohio, Linda Watson of Aurora, Ind., Martha Paul of Corbin and Marie Sparks of Batavia, Ohio; brothers, Lloyd Johnson and Tony Johnson, both of Covington; 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Peach Grove Cemetery.
Raymond K. Deskins, 78, of Florence, died at 9:20 p.m. Sunday at Garden Park, Cincinnati. He was a mechanic with Robke Chevrolet, Covington.
Survivors include his wife, Norma Deskins; sons, Charles Deskins of Covington and Raymond Deskins of St. Louis; a stepdaughter, Cathy Lynn Davis of Bradenton, Fla.; and a grandchild.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Floral Hills cemetery Chapel, Taylor Mill. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery. Don Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.
Thomas A. Dorger, 85, of Lakeside Park, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired composer with the Cincinnati Enquirer, a member of Blessed Sacrament Church in Fort Mitchell and was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Florine Gamble Dorger; daughters, Frances Glenn of Phoenix, Mary Anne Dorger of Crescent Springs and Nancy Hauser of Taylor Mill; a son, Thomas Charles Dorger of Cincinnati; a brother, Samuel Dorger of Florence; nine grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Blessed Sacrament Church. Visitation will be from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Friday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
Mary Ellen Dressman Foltz, 83, of Florence, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul Church, Florence. Her husband, Leo Foltz Sr., died in 1973.
Survivors include daughters, Ellen Collett of Florence and Judy Eichhorn of Cincinnati; sons, Jim Foltz, Leo Foltz Jr. and David Foltz, all of Burlington, and Tom Foltz of Walton; a sister, Virginia Brown of Covington; 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul Church, Florence. Visitation will begin there at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Mrs. Foltz bequeathed her body to the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Memorials are suggested to St. Henry High School, 3755 Scheben Drive, Erlanger, Ky. 41018. Betty Sue Brown Griffin, 57, of Covington, died Oct. 1 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. She was a data entry clerk with KOI.
Survivors include a daughter, Crystal Brown of Covington; sons, Stacey Brown of Covington, Eric Brown of Jacksonville, Fla., and Timothy Griffin of Covington; her mother, Roberta Powell Brown of Covington; and seven grandchildren.

Juanita Hitch, 81, of Nancy, formerly of Covington, died Monday at her home.

Jeraldine H. Noel, 61, of Covington, died Sunday at Northern Kentucky Care and Rehabilitation Center, Highland Heights. She was a retired tax examiner with the Internal Revenue Service.
Survivors include her husband, H. Don Noel; a son, Donald Noel of Covington; a daughter, Kimberly Neil of Cincinnati; sisters, Jackie Mundell and Janet Granger, both of Cincinnati; three grandchildren and a great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill. Visitation will begin there at 5 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
Joan M. Richardson, 69, of Florence, died at 9:45 p.m. Sunday at Hospice of Cincinnati. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Lloyd Richardson, died earlier this year.
Survivors include a daughter, Stephanie Richardson of Florence; a brother, Ralph E. Hale of Finksburg, Md.; and a grandson.
Services will be at the convenience of the family. Cremation Society of Greater Cincinnati is handling arrangements.
JoAnn Moran Riley, 59, of Brooksville, died Monday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center, Maysville. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Steve Riley; daughters, Lisa Ann Newman, Mary Elizabeth Moran and Beverly Kay Ashcraft, all of Brooksville, and Patricia Jo Riley of Germantown; sons, Stephen Gregory Riley and Kenneth Adrian Riley, both of Brooksville; a sister, Wanda Kanzlemar of Dry Ridge; brothers, Jerry Moran of Germantown and Roy Moran of Brooksville; and 10 grandchildren.

Claxton "Pete" Sipple, 87, of Covington, died Sunday at Rosedale Manor, Latonia.
He was a retired truck driver with Dance Freightlines and Consolidated Freightways, and a member of Elliston Baptist Church and Latonia Lodge No. 746 F&AM. His wife, Iona Webster Sipple, died in 2000.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna J. McClure of Edgewood; a son, Mike Sipple of Latonia; a sister, Mary R. McCord of Danville; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Peggy Maphet Tucker, 52, of Covington, died at 3:30 a.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Donald R. Tucker; sons, Jerry L. Tucker of Falmouth and Jeff L. Tucker of Covington; a brother, Bernie Maphet of Lebanon, Ohio; a sister, Bonnie Roush of Ocala, Fla.; and two grandchildren.

Robert Tuohey, 67, of Erlanger, died Sept. 30 in Oldham County of injuries suffered in an automobile accident. He was a truck driver.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Tuohey; a daughter, Ruth Tuohey of Glen Olden, Pa.; sons, Robert Tuohey Jr. and James Tuohey, both of Marcus Hook, Pa., and David Pratt of Pennsylvania; stepdaughters, Karen Valentour of Dry Ridge and Melody Lindell of Brookville, Ind.; stepsons, Thomas Lindell of Oklahoma and Calvin Lindell of Morehead; his mother, Jean Krause of Palm Desert, Calif.; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

James M. Wurtzler, 46, of Bellevue, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was an operator with Quebecor World Co., Cincinnati.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy Prewitt Wurtzler; sons, Brian Wurtzler and Donnie Wurtzler, both of Bellevue; his father, Henry R. Wurtzler of Cincinnati; sisters, Sandy Edens and Chris Jones, both of Cincinnati; and brothers, Steve Wurtzler of Nashua, N.H., and Tom Wurtzler of Cincinnati.
Services will be at noon Thursday at A.C. Dobbling and Son Funeral Home, Bellevue. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Cincinnati.
