Erickson, Everett age 78 of Baldwin died July 27
Everett Elroy Erickson, son of Carl & Selma (Nelson) Erickson, was born January 16, 1925, in St. Croix County, Baldwin, Wisconsin. He was baptized, confirmed, and lifetime member at Our Savior’s Lutheran, now known as Peace Lutheran Church. He attended school through 8th grade at the Pleasant Grove grade school and graduated from the Baldwin High School in 1942. He served in the army during World War II as a medical technician Dec 13, 1945 - March 13, 1947. On January 2, 1948, he was united in marriage to Frieda Lawson at the Lutheran Parsonage in Hudson, Wisconsin. They had three children: Steve, Marsha and Bruce and five grandchildren: Chad, Kari & Todd Shafer, Jill & Brice Erickson. In his early days he was a carpenter, perhaps that’s where his love for woodworking began. He farmed 33 years south of Baldwin, many of which were also spent trucking. He sold the farm in 1982 to his youngest son Bruce. At that time, Everett & Frieda built a new home in the 20 acre wooded area adjacent to the original farm. He retired and sold the milk route in 1986, which left him with more time to enjoy fishing on White Ash, Bone Lake, or Spring Valley Dam, woodworking, traveling, playing cards, and going for coffee at Ray’s or Hardee’s. Everyone that knew Everett knew he had a story to share and always found fun with life. Everett slept peacefully away following his battle with lung cancer on July 27, 2003, in his home, having reached the age of 78 years . He is survived by his wife Frieda, his son Steve Erickson of Clear Lake, daughter Marsha Shafer of Roberts, son Bruce (Jane) Erickson of Baldwin, grandchildren Chad (Stacy) Shafer of Baldwin, Kari Shafer & Todd Shafer of Roberts, Jill Erickson & Brice Erickson of Baldwin, Godchild Deb Creaser of Chippewa Falls, many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives & friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, infant son, brothers Don and Dale. Funeral service for Everett Erickson will be/was 2:00PM Wednesday July 30, 2003 at Peace Lutheran Church in Baldwin with Pastor John Hanson officiating. Burial with full military honors provided by the Baldwin American Legion will be in the Woodside cemetery with active casketbearers being Chad Shafer, Todd Shafer, Brice Erickson, Daren Erickson, Jerry Hanson, and Peter Hince. Honorary casketbearers are Harry Deets, Glen Hensley, Elmer Serier, and Eldon Ramberg. Visitation will be/was Tuesday from 4 until 7PM at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Baldwin and one hour prior to the service at church on Wednesday. Memorials preferred.
Nelson, Charles age 78 of Hudson died July 25.
Charles Richard Nelson age 78 of Hudson died Friday July 25, 2003 at the Hudson Medical Center. Charles was born on August 4, 1924 in Kansas City, Missouri; the son of Chester and Nellie Mae (Phillips) Nelson. He attended elementary school in River Falls and graduated from River Falls High School in the class of 1942. He furthered his education at the University of Wisconsin – River Falls. Chuck enlisted in the armed forces where he served in the Navy during World War II. After serving his enlistment, he was recalled once again to serve during the Korean Conflict. On September 4, 1947, he was united in marriage to Rita Ann Stevens in Hastings, Minnesota. This union was blessed with children Joyce, Richard, Gerald, James, Jane, David, and Dennis. Their family lived in River Falls until 1955, when they made Hudson their home. Chuck was a proud Andersen Window Employee and a member of their prestigious Quarter Century Club. He worked there from 1953 until his retirement in 1985. Charles was an avid hobbyist. Early in life, he built power speed boats by hand. He then began working with model railroads. During this time, he also began a love for radio control airplanes of which he built and flew. He was a proud member of the Sodbuster’s Club. His gift to build and create gave him great pleasure in his pastimes. He was also an active member of the Boy Scouts with his sons serving a Webelo Instructor. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Rita, and brother Stewart nelson. Funeral service for Chuck Nelson will be/was 3:00PM Sunday July 27, 2003 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Hudson. Pastors Dennis Nelson and Mark Tewes officiated. Organist will be Monica Weekes. Interment will be in the St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service at church. Johannsen, Mickey age 75 of Hudson died July 19.
Anthonette Mickey Zappa Johannsen age 75 of Hudson died Saturday July 19, 2003 at the Hudson Hospital where she had been a patient. Mickey Zappa Johannsen was born on August 3, l927 at Cumberland, WI; the daughter of Felix & Mary (DeDominces) Zappa. She attended school in Cumberland and later moved to Hudson. She was united in marriage to Walter Johannsen on Nov.27, l970 in Stillwater, MN. Mickey worked for the 3M Company in Cumberland and then many years for Bertelson Drug in Hudson (now closed). She also worked for the Toro Company when it was located in Hudson. Mickey enjoyed organizing many family get togethers and loved to go to garage sales. She also liked to visit the casino and if there was a bingo game nearby, she would be there. At least twice a week, she would get a card game together with family and friends. She is survived by her husband Walt, brothers Ben (Evelyn) Zappa, Flint, MI, Herman (Betty) Zappa, Cumberland, Don (Judy) Zappa, Hudson, Tony (Joy) Ranallo, Cumberland, sisters; Rose Lindfors, Cumberland, Caroline (Tom) Poukey, Onalaska, WI, and Jan ( Jim) Peterson, Blaine, MN. She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters Angie Cain and Francis Lombard. Mass of Christian Burial was at 11AM Tuesday July 22, 2003 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Hudson with Fr. Peter Szleszinski and Fr. James Dabruzzi Con-Celebrating the Funeral Mass. Burial in St. Patrick’s cemetery with nieces and nephews as pallbearers. The O’Connell Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services was in charge of the arrangements.

Samuel Joseph Richie age 81 of Miami, FLA and formerly of Hudson died July 9, 2003 in Florida. Sam is survived by his wife of 58 years Merilyn Ronzheimer Ritchie, daughter Terri (Walter) Shikany, son Eugene (Terri) Richie, five grandchildren, sisters Elsie Mulvaney, Margaret Buttke, Mary Marino, and brother Louis Richie. Hush, Gracie four weeks old of Baldwin died July 13.
Gracie Mae Hush, four week old precious infant daughter of Grey and Tara (Johnson) Hush of Baldwin died Sunday July 13, 2003, with her parents by her side at Fairview University Hospital in Minneapolis following an extended illness. Gracie was born on June 14, 2003 with heart anomalies to which she fought to the very end. In her 29 days with us, she taught us a great deal about love, life, dying, and faith. She will always hold a special place in the hearts who knew her, and will never be forgotten. Gracie is survived by her Mom and Dad, maternal grandparents Jerry and Julie Johnson of Amery, paternal grandparents Barbara Iverson of Rice Lake, Robert W. Hush of Rice Lake, maternal great grandparents Jim and Harriet Buhr of Clear Lake, Martin and Olive Johnson of Amery, maternal aunts Margo (Dale) Rosen, Katie Johnson, Jackie Johnson all of Amery, paternal uncles Benjamin and Robert R. Hush both of Rice Lake, cousins Calvin and Maggie Rosen of Amery, and cousin Robert J. Hush of Hammond. Ickler, Leonard age 93 of Hammond died July 11, 2003
Leonard Luther Ickler age 93 of Hammond and formerly of Roberts died Friday July 11 at Woodwinds Hospital in Woodbury following complications of hip surgery. Leonard was born on July 9th, 1909 in St. Paul, Minnesota; the son of Julius and Sarah (Gausman) Ickler. Leonard grew up on the family farm in St. Paul. He attended Mounds Park Elementary and graduated from Harding High School. Following this, he furthered his education at Dunwoody Technical School. On March 10, 1935, Leonard was united in marriage to Marie Francis Brandeman at Sacred Heart Church in St. Paul. This union was blessed with children; Delores, Carol, and Robert. The Ickler's sold their land to the 3M Corporation where they would construct their well known headquarters on I-94. They moved to Lake Elmo and continued farming. In 1957, the Ickler's moved to Roberts where Leonard continued his love of farming. Leonard’s story telling and dry sense of humor will be missed by many. If you had the fortune of knowing Leonard, you knew he loved to drive around visiting others. Earlier in life, he enjoyed dancing, deer hunting, fishing, and had a green thumb when it came to gardening. Leonard’s philosophy on farming and life was simple, “Do It the right way or don’t do it”. This way of life was passed down to generations and can be seen in children and grandchildren. For years, he served as an assessor for Kinnickinnic Township. Leonard is survived by his children; Delores (Herman) Heinbuch of Hammond, Carol (Paul) Cernohouse of Spooner, Robert (Barb) Ickler of Roberts, grandchildren Steve (Renee) Heinbuch, Debbie (William) Volkert, Scott (Diane) Heinbuch, Robert Ickler Jr., Julie Ickler, great grandchildren Andrew and Karl Heinbuch, Vickie, Bill, and Dan Volkert, Jason, Megan, and Jenna Heinbuch, Mitchell and Nathan Ptacek. Leonard is preceded in death by his wife Marie in 1998, granddaughters Shari Ptacek, Shelly Cernohous, brother Harris Ickler, and sisters Francis Aichele, and Alva Shilling. Funeral service for Leonard Ickler will be/was 11AM Monday July 14, 2003 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Baldwin. Pastor Paul Lovestrand officiated while organist Jan Hanson accompanied congregational singing. Burial was in the ST. Mary's cemetery in Hammond. Active casketbearers were Leonard’s great grandsons while his great granddaughters served as honorary casketbearers. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church on Monday. Sather, Glenn Woodrow age 80 died February 10, 2004.
Glenn W. Sather age 79 of Hammond died Monday evening, February 9th, 2004 at the Baldwin Care Center where he was being treated for cancer. Glenn was born on February 5, 1924 in the Town of Cady (Wilson); the son of Martin and Ingoborg (Hauge). On September 11, 1947, he married
his best friend, Dorothy Karnes at the Knapp Methodist Church. This union would be blessed with children Rodney, Robert, and Richard. Glenn was raised a farmer and continued farming for the majority of his life. He loved to till the soil and appreciated its beauty. Furthermore, he enjoyed woodworking; whether carving various trinkets or building milk houses on the farm. He also enjoyed fishing and wintering in Texas. Glenn was a devoted husband to his wife Dorothy; proud father to his sons Rodney (Susan) Sather of Richfield, Robert (Lori) Sather of Hammond, Richard (Mary) Sather of Hammond; supportive grandpa to his grandchildren Rachel, Mark, Kelly (Phil), Mike, Erin, Dan, Martin, Heather and great grandchild Tyler; and dedicated brother to his siblings Oscar and Stella of W. St. Paul and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Celebration of Life will be/was 11AM Friday Feb. 13th, 2004 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church of Baldwin. Pastor Paul Lovestrand officiating. Kongshaug, Bette age 79 of Woodville died February 9.
Bette J. Kongshaug age 79 of Woodville died Monday February 9th, 2004 at Lynnhurst Nursing Home in St. Paul where has had been a patient for a few days. Bette was born to Walter and Marie (Otto) Perry on November 29, 1924 in Hammond, Wisconsin. She was the youngest of three girls. She was raised and attended school in Hammond. She would meet Kenneth Kongshaug at a dance and would later marry on December 10, 1942. During this time, she lived with her parents as Ken served in the US Air Force during World War II. Upon his return, they made Woodville their home. Ken managed Central Lumber Company. Their marriage would later dissolve in 1967. Following this, she lived several years in Hudson with her sister Shirley and later New Richmond. She worked for JC Penney’s in the Sunray Shopping Center and at their New Richmond outlet as a clerk and catalog manager. Later, she moved back to Woodville and made her home once again. Here, she worked for local restaurants as a waitress and for Town and Country Dress Shop. Some of Bette’s favorite past-times included reading, playing euchre on Friday nights, and card club once a month with her favorite friends. She was also a Green Thumb employee for Parkview Nursing Home. She also enjoyed painting and loved animals. With her willing attitude and cheerful smile, she was a bright stop in many people’s day. Bette is survived by her son Jeff of Woodville and several cousins and friends. She is preceded in death by her infant stillborn son, daughter Kathleen Kongshaug, sisters Vivian Peterson, and Shirley Peterson. Funeral service for Bette Kongshaug will be 1:00PM Wednesday February 11, 2004 at Zion Lutheran Church in Woodville with Pastor Keith Anderson officiating. Judie Jeffery age 60 of Fridley, formerly of Brooklyn Park on Feb. 4th, 2004 at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park. She was born on December 10, 1943 in South Dakota; the daughter of Marvin and Frances (Jacobs) Hohn. She enjoyed sewing, reading, and hot air balloons. Her greatest love came from spending time with her grandchildren, as she treasured them all. She is a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She is survived by her children Jacquelyn (Brian Balsaitis) Jeffery, Cokato, MN., Joette (Jim) Rispalje, Maple Grove, Juline (Joe) Diers, Hudson, WI., nine grandchildren, 3 sisters, 7 brothers, numerous nieces, nephews.
