Agnes 'Bonnie' Frey, career woman and artist
Agnes "Bonnie" Frey exuded a positive attitude about life, meeting challenges head-on and fulfilling dreams, even in her later years.
Mrs. Frey, 95, of Dayton, died Friday at Highlands of Fort Thomas.
"She was very tenacious, " said her son, Donald Frey of Fort Thomas. "She never gave up. She was a person full of life."
After a divorce, Mrs. Frey had to find work. She taught herself shorthand and typing to support her children, her son said.
During a long career, she worked as a secretary for the federal government, including the U.S. Air Force and the Veteran's Administration.
When she retired 30 years ago, she concentrated on nurturing her artistic side, picking up a long-neglected interest in painting.
She painted 85 pieces, using vibrant colors to capture landscapes and portraits.
About 10 years ago, Mrs. Frey and a granddaughter displayed their artwork in a joint exhibit at the Carnegie Art Center in Covington, her son said.
She also was an accomplished pianist.
She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Bellevue.
Other survivors include a daughter, Nancy Frey of Alexandria; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Thomas Church, Fort Thomas.
No visitation is scheduled. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
A.C. Dobbling & Son Funeral Home in Fort Thomas is in charge of arrangements.
Hunter Derrick Leek Barnett, 4 days, died Thursday at Children's Hospital in Cincinnati.
Survivors include parents Derrick B. Barnett and Candi Lee Leek both of Crittenden; grandparents, Tony and Debbie Leek of Verona and Nelson and Rene Barnett of Warsaw; great-grandmothers, Vickie Pauly of Walton, Jean Leek of Verona, Eva Barnett of Napoleon and Margie McKinley of Florence.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home in Verona. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in New Bethel cemetery in Verona.
Juanita B. Hamilton, 71, of Belen, N.M., formerly of Hebron, died Wednesday in Belen.
Survivors include her husband, Harold Hamilton of Belen; a son, Jay Hamilton of Belen; daughters, Patricia G. Phillips of Florence, Jacqueline M. Witcher of Ohio and Joyann Walters of Belen; brothers, Harry Estes, Taulbee Estes, Jr., Herman Estes and Bobby Estes, all of Ohio; sisters, Pauline Holster, Geraldine Yuska, Gladys Thorten, Shirley Moore, Catherine Foster, Sue Ider and Janice Gilbert all of Ohio; 12 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Hebron. Visitations will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Romero Funeral Home in Belen and from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at Middendorf-Bullock, Hebron. Burial will be in Beatty cemetery in Yellow Rock, Ky.
Mary Etta Hudgins Hewitt, 88, of Bedford, died Thursday at Bedford Health Care Facility. Her husband, Stanley Wilbur Hewitt; a son, Claudie B. Hewitt; a grandchild and a great-grandchild preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters, Norma H. Martin of Carrollton, Ruth H. Proctor of Charleston, S.C., and Stella H. Banks of Vevay, Ind.; sons, Stanley J. Hewitt of Seymour, Ind., David C. Hewitt of Vevay, Ind., Daniel J. Hewitt of Carrollton and Gene Hewitt of Louisville; 17 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Warsaw Cemetery.
Hazel Mae Kopple, 74, of Florence, died Thursday at Woodcrest Manor in Elsmere. She was a retired hostess and server for Holiday Inn, Fort Mitchell and Covington.
Survivors include daughters, Charlene Dern of Edgewood and Deborah Grigson of Hebron; sons, Dan Van Meter of Hebron, Jon Kopple of Florence and James Kopple of San Francisco, Calif.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Tuesday at Linnemann Funeral Home in Burlington. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in New Bethel Cemetery, Verona.

Wilma Aino Losey, 85, of California, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas. She was a retired tax examiner for the IRS, past president of the Alexandria PTA and a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Alexandria. Her husband, Fred M. Losey, and a son, Jeff Losey, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Fred Evans Losey of California; a sister, Lillian Hannemann of Cocoa Beach, Fla.; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at Alexandria Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mary "Sue" Browning Lynn, 62, of Demossville, died Wednesday. She was a retired executive secretary at Procter & Gamble in Cincinnati. She was a member of the Pendleton County Historical Society and a former member of the Pendleton County Women's Democratic Committee.
Survivors include a daughter, Erin Lynn of Demossville; a son, Duane Beatty of Demossville; a sister, Connie Pfanstiel of Demossville; a stepbrother, Donald Tomlin of Demossville; and her stepmother, Azalea Browning of Covington.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery.

Jerome "Jerry" Mardis Sr., 67, of Bromley, died Friday at Woodspoint Nursing Home, Florence. He was a retired machinist with Dieterlein Tool & Dye Company in Covington, and a member of the Machinist & Tool Dye union. His first wife, Judy Mardis, a son, Joe Mardis, and a stepson Jerry Reynolds, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Mardis of Bromley; a son, Jerry Mardis, Jr., of Plymouth, Wisc.; a stepson, Mike Reynolds of Crescent Springs; a stepdaughter, Vickie Woods of Decatur, Ill.; his mother, Frances Nola Mardis of Independence; a brother, Dan Mardis of Crescent Springs; a sister, Pearl Mardis of Independence; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Anna Louise Byrd Powell, 63, of Owenton, died Thursday at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.
Survivors include her husband, Gerald Powell of Owenton; a daughter, Millie Duke of Lexington; a brother, Bobby Byrd of Corinth; sisters Jean Blevins and Bernice Montalo both of Illinois; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at McDonald & New Funeral Home, Owenton. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Owenton I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Owenton.

Bertha M. Saupe, 93, of Southgate, died Thursday at Rosedale Manor in Covington. She was a retired manager at Frisch's Restaurant in Newport, and a volunteer at Southgate Elementary School. Her husband, Kurt E. Saupe, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Betty Bray of Alexandria; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Monday at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Highland Heights.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.
Christian F. Seifried, 90, of Newport died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas. He was a retired letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service.
Survivors include his wife, Loraine Seifried of Newport; a son, Roger Seifried of Loveland, Ohio; a daughter, Janet Ginter of Newport; brothers, Albert Seifried of Crestview and John Seifried of Fort Mitchell; and six grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Sept. 20 at St. John's United Church of Christ, Newport.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service Sept. 20 at the funeral home.
