Thomas Hanser, 63, loved political debate
Thomas R. "Thom" Hanser loved to talk politics.
"To be able to talk with people and debate them, that was a big interest of his, " said his stepdaughter, Sara Barnett of Philadelphia, Pa.
Mr. Hanser, who died Saturday at University Hospital in Cincinnati, was a fairly liberal Democrat and a big fan of Bill Clinton. But he would often defend a position he didn't necessarily hold himself, just for the sake of debate, Barnett said.
"He was very much of a people person. He really liked to talk with them and share ideas, " she said.
The Florence resident worked 32 years for the U.S. Postal Service in Cincinnati, doing everything from sorting mail to supervising the cluster-box program.

Mr. Hanser became an avid runner in his later years. He ran in several marathons, and he served as president of the Clifton Track Club. He also wrote for Ohio Runner Magazine, and for the Dixie News under the name Page Pennyworth.
He did most of his writing on the Internet, at a forum where avid readers could discuss books and current events.
Even in his final days, he kept up with current events, particularly the California recall election, his stepdaughter said.
He died just two days short of his 64th birthday.
