Ruth Hacker, devout Christian
Ruth Bearden Hacker read her Bible every night, and every night she was on her knees praying.
Ms. Hacker, who died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas, loved the Highland United Methodist Church in Fort Thomas, said her daughter, Marlene Peterson.
She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Highland Heights for 50 years, and started attending Highland in 1978, when she moved in with Peterson and her late husband in Fort Thomas. She served as secretary/treasurer for the circle group she belonged to, and she helped her daughter prepare communion.
She was also a former member of the Ladies Board of Holly Hill Children's Home.
Ms. Hacker worked all her life, including 16 years as a factory worker for Cin-Made Co. in Cincinnati, which made cans, and 12 years with the former Crown Overall Co. of Cincinnati. She also worked selling tickets in a movie theater.
She kept working after she moved in with her daughter, doing all the housework. She had dinner on the table every night when her daughter and son-in-law came home from work, and that continued until his death in 1992.
Ms. Hacker liked to talk, and "being 97, she had a lot to talk about, " her daughter said.
