Bruce Baldinger, civic activist in Alexandria

Bruce Charles Baldinger, a longtime employee of Queen City Metro and a civic activist in his hometown of Alexandria, died Friday at his home.

Mr. Baldinger started his career at the old Queen City Metro before he was inducted into the Army in World War II.

After his release from the service -- he saw action in France and Germany, then was shipped to the Pacific after the cessation of fighting in Europe -- he returned to the bus company.

"He started out as a mechanic, " said a daughter, Charlene Rogers of Alexandria. "After the war he did a little bit of everything, upholstering seats, working in the body shop."
