Mary Ethlyn Walker, loved family, church
Faith and a strong will are what friends and family remember most about Mary Ethlyn Walker.
Mrs. Walker, 94, was very active in the lives of her children and Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption in Covington. Until her early 80s, when she suffered a major stroke, she volunteered for the Ladies Society at the church. She also went to card parties, social club meetings.
"She was very outgoing until she had her stroke, " said her daughter, Mary Moeller of Florence. "After the stroke, she came through it. She went from having to be in a wheelchair to walking with a cane. She broke her hip, but she came back from that, too. She was just very strong-willed."
Mrs. Walker, a longtime resident of Rosedale Manor in Latonia, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.
Early in life, she worked for Wadsworth Electric in Covington. When she married
17 years later, she decided to leave her job to raise a family. She threw herself into that calling.
"Family was very important to her. She always made time for her family, " Moeller said.
Mrs. Walker was a member of Northern Kentucky Right to Life.
Her husband, John Hilbern Walker, died in 1994.
Survivors include another daughter, Marcia Miller of Austin, Texas; a son, John Walker of Shelbyville, Ind.; a sister, Peggy Hergott of Covington; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption. Visitation will be from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Covington. Entombment will be in St. Mary Mausoleum, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
Attala Stewart Bagwell, 83, of Florence, died Friday at her home. She was a retired administrative secretary with Booth Hospital.
Survivors include sons, Arthur "Mac" Bagwell of Williamstown and E. Stewart Bagwell of Tucson, Ariz.; a daughter, Anne Courtney of Florence; brothers, Edward Stewart of Redlands, Ga., and Harvey Stewart of Belle Haven, Va.; a sister, Mary Engle of Exmoor, Va.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Burlington. Visitation will begin there at noon Tuesday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Northern Kentucky, 1403 Alexandria Pike, Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075.
August Armas Capp, 84, of Dayton, died Friday at his home. He was a retired chief petty officer from the Navy and a retired diesel mechanic from Pagnotti Corp., West Pittison, Pa. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association.
Survivors include a daughter, Edith Mariani of Dayton; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at the convenience of the family. A.C. Dobbling and Son Funeral Home, Bellevue, is handling arrangements.
David A. Crawford, 61, of Cold Spring, died Friday at his home. He was an employee of Ford Motor Co. and a member of St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring, and Catholic Order of Foresters.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Crawford; a son, Scott Crawford of Cold Spring; daughters, Tammy Wolf of Latonia, Sandra Brown of Taylor Mill and Elizabeth Halderman of Cold Spring; a brother, Richard Crawford of Cincinnati; sisters, Patricia Mathews of Cincinnati, Joyce Gannon of Batesville, Ind., and Martha Crawford of Missoula, Mont.; and 12 grandchildren.

Roger Thomas Ellis, 48, of Union, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was an employee of Portman Equipment Co., a member of the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association and former member of the Owen County Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors include his wife, Toni Bennett Ellis; his parents, Walker T. and Yolanda Lucas Ellis; a son, Ethan Lee Ellis of Union; and a brother, Rodney Ellis of Crittenden.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at McDonald & New Funeral Home, Main Street location, Owenton. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Owenton Cemetery. Jerome F. Mersch, 75, of Florence, died at 7:30 a.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired construction worker with Robert Dickman Co. His wife, Katherine Mersch, died in 2000.
Survivors include a daughter, Teresa Bailey of Florence; sons, David Mersch of Florence and Terrence Mersch of Cincinnati; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Cincinnati. Visitation will begin there at 5 p.m. Sunday. Cremation will be at Fares J. Radel Crematory, Cincinnati. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
Everett Floyd C. Roberts, 19, of Owenton, died Thursday in a motorcycle accident on Ky. 227 North, Owen County. He was an employee of Dana Corp. and attended Greenup Fork Baptist Church, Owen County.
Survivors include his parents, Everett and Peggy Sue Roberts of Owenton; and a sister, Nicole Roberts, at home.

Ruth E. Schierer, 92, of Fort Thomas, died at 3:29 p.m. Wednesday at Lower Cape Fear Hospice, Wilmington, N.C.
She was a homemaker and a member of the St. Ann Society and Altar Society. Her husband, George Schierer, died in 1946.
Survivors include sons, George Schierer of Cold Spring, Ronald Schierer of Union, Jack Schierer and Dennis Schierer, both of Fort Thomas; daughters, Lois McDonald and Joyce Jourdan, both of Fort Thomas; 19 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

Sharon Lee Stemmle, 46, of Goshen, formerly of Northern Kentucky, died Wednesday at Bellaire Medical Center, Houston. She was a real estate agent with Century 21, a member of the Kentucky Association of Realtors and Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her husband, Timothy Stemmle; daughters, Rachel Holt of Lexington, Kristin Stemmle of Louisville, Holly Beyersdoerfer of Richmond, Amy Stemmle of Louisville and Hannah Stemmle of Goshen; her parents, Robert and Jean Bridewell of Alexandria; sisters, Marcia Stegeman of Cold Spring, Bonnie Herzog of Tampa, Fla., Janice Harden of Fort Thomas and Bonnie King of Cold Spring; and brothers, Randy Winters of California and Gary Winters of Highland Heights.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church, Louisville. Burial will be in Floydsburg Cemetery, Crestwood.

Amanda Nicole Wilson, 15, of Latonia, died Thursday in Louisville.
Survivors include her father, James M. Wilson of Latonia; her mother and stepfather, Anita Centers Polley and Leland Polley of Latonia; a brother, Christopher Flanigan of Independence; a stepsister, Kim MacPherson of Burlington; grandmothers, Bessie Center of Holly Hill and Fredia Centers of Ohio; and great-grandmother, Beulah Lovitt of Holly Hill.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home, Whitley City.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Lovitt Family Cemetery, Holly Hill.
