James O. Sturgeon, enjoyed job, family
James O. Sturgeon was a gentle, sensitive man who enjoyed his job and spending time with his grandson, his friends and family say.
Mr. Sturgeon, of Crescent Springs, died Monday at his home. He was 58.
"He would always hug you and say, 'I love you' at family get-togethers, " said a brother, Frank Sturgeon, Covington. "He was just an all-around good guy."
"He was a gentle man, always so concerned, so feeling, " said Jenny Schrand, a friend for about 20 years.
Mr. Sturgeon was a supervisor with Riverfront Steel in Cincinnati and a decorated Army veteran who spent a year as a radio operator in the Vietnam conflict.
The youngest of eight children, he was born and raised in Covington and graduated from Holmes High School.
When Mr. Sturgeon became ill a couple of months ago, his brother said, the worst thing for him was being unable to return to work.
"He loved his job; he liked everybody he worked with -- (and) he thought a lot of his boss, " Frank Sturgeon said. But Mr. Sturgeon's illness did give him more time to spend with his grandson.
