Sister Mary Anne Wolking, longtime teacher, was 85
Sister Mary Anne Wolking was the oldest of six sisters to enter the Benedictine community of St. Walburg Monastery in Villa Hills. A longtime teacher, she died Wednesday in the monastery infirmary at the age of 85.
Since her siblings were all members of St. Walburg Monastery, they were a close-knit group, preparing and assembling for all kinds of celebrations. That continued after the death of Sister Mercedes Wolking, the first of the sisters to die, in January 2002.
Sisters Teresa, Amelia, Charles and Consolata Wolking survive.
Sister Mary Anne was born in Covington and entered the Benedictine community in 1935. She taught elementary school at St. Anthony in Forest Hills, Ohio; St. James in Brooksville, Ind., and Villa Madonna Academy in Villa Hills.
In 1952 she began teaching math and science at secondary schools, serving at Holy Cross High in Latonia and St. Henry High School in Erlanger.
In 1972, Sister Mary Anne began working with children in the Villa Madonna Montessori School in various capacities until she retired. She celebrated her Diamond Jubilee in 1997.
Sister Mary Anne had been incapacitated for some time before her death.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Walburg Monastery. Vigil services will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the chapel.
Burial will be in St. Walburg Monastery Cemetery.

Christopher Michael Bauer, 8, of Maysville, died at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at University of Kentucky Medical Center, Lexington.
Survivors include his parents, Donald E. and Kelly Bauer of Maysville; a brother, Donald Ray Bauer of Maysville; sisters, Jennifer Bauer and Katie Bauer, both of Maysville; grandparents, Mary Katherine Murphy of Tennessee, Larry Ogden of Wyandotte, Okla., Tom Platt of Missouri, and Betty and Russell Wilson of Maysville; and a great-grandmother, Nancy Platt of Missouri.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Brell and Son Funeral Home, Maysville. Visitation will begin there at 5 p.m. today. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Germantown.
Ruth Helen Boyd, 81, of Warsaw, died Monday at Gallatin County Health Care Center, Warsaw. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include sons, Bob Boyd of Carrollton and Gary Boyd of Shingle Springs, Calif.; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at the convenience of the family. Memorials are suggested to Kentucky Humane Society, 4667 N. Main St., Eminence, Ky. 40019. Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw, is handling arrangements.
Maurice "Mossey" H. Byrne Jr., 85, of Newport, died Monday at Northern Kentucky Care and Rehabilitation Center, Highland Heights. He was an artist with Molding Arts and Plaster Co., and a member of Holy Spirit Church in Newport, the church Holy Name Society and Starliters group. He was a member of Catholic War Vets and the Catholic Theater Guild, and he was an Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Meister Byrne Jr.; daughters, Eileen Byrne of Covington, Rebecca Giles of Independence and Maureen Wash of Highland Heights; a son, Kevin Byrne Jr. of Union; and 10 grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Spirit Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at A.C. Dobbling and Son Funeral Home, Bellevue. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Robert Coulter, 85, of Dayton, Ohio, formerly of Cynthiana, died Tuesday at Wood Glen Nursing Home, Miamisburg, Ohio. He was a retired employee of Ladish Co., a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Cynthiana and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include a daughter, Melinda Coulter-Williams of Dayton, Ohio; a sister, Norma Beard of Springfield, Ohio; and two grandsons.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Macedonia Baptist Church. Visitation will begin there at 1 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Cherry Grove Cemetery, Harrison County. Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana, is handling arrangements.
Jeff T. Dalton, 61, of Crittenden, died Wednesday at his home. He was a machinist with William T. Powell Co., Cincinnati, and a member of United Steelworkers of America.
Survivors include his wife, Mary E. Dalton; sons, Jeff P. Dalton of Williamstown and Robert Dalton of Crittenden; daughters, Maralena Dalton of Independence, Brenda Beverding of Erlanger and Shirley Hanna of Crittenden; a brother, Boyd Dalton of Cincinnati; a sister, Mary Holder of Covington; five grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
Laura Strefelt Freidhof, 81, of Latonia, died Monday at Rosedale Manor, Latonia. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include a son, Dennis Freidhof of Richmond, Ind.; a daughter, Darlene Groh of Bellevue; sisters, Anna Mae Hill of Sun City, Ariz., and Thelma Strefelt of Latonia; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at A.C. Dobbling and Son Funeral Home, Bellevue. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.
Rebecca Graven, 41, of Covington, died at 1:27 a.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. She was a member of First Church of God, Florence.
Survivors include a daughter, Tia Duff of Crescent Springs; her parents, Ron and Carolyn Perry of Covington; a brother, Michael Duff of Victoria, Texas; and sisters, Kimberly Holcomb of Hazard, Alisa Schuchart of Taylor Mill and Belinda Walter of Edgewood.

Jona Raye Helvey, 47, of Georgetown, died Tuesday at her home. She was a homemaker and attended Trinity Assembly of God, Georgetown.
Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Bob Hyatt of Cynthiana; a son, Michael Nelson Helvey of Scott County; a daughter, Crystal Whalen of Georgetown; brothers, Terry Whalen and Greg Whalen, both of Cynthiana; a stepbrother, Bobby Hyatt of Morehead; and a grandson.

Gary Hester, 57, of Dry Ridge, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Grant County, Williamstown.

Billy T. King, 77, of Augusta, died at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center, Maysville. He was a retired machinist with Cincinnati Milacron, he was and a member of Brooksville Christian Church and the Alexandria VFW Post. His first wife, Naomi Perkins King, and two infant daughters preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Orenna Meyer King; daughters, Debbie McKibben of Coleman, Ala., and Sandy Campbell of Georgetown; a stepdaughter, Mary Ellen Flora of Augusta; sons, Billy Ray King of Madisonville, Steven King and Michael King, both of Florida; brothers, Herbert King of Brooksville and Walter King of Ross, Ohio; a sister, Dorothy Bay of Erlanger; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Metcalfe-Hennessey Funeral Home, Augusta. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Johnsville Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.

Elizabeth B. Welp Overman, 95, of Park Hills, died at 3:20 p.m. Tuesday at her home. She was a housekeeper and food service worker with Notre Dame Academy, Park Hills.
Survivors include daughters, Elizabeth Overberg of Cincinnati, Mary Vornbrocke of Fort Wright and Sister Mary Joell, S.N.D., of Park Hills; sisters, Agnes Wegener, Josepha Bokeloh and Grete Wessler, all of Germany; brothers, Heinrich Welp and Willi Welp, both of Germany; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Robert Earl Peck, 70, of Florence, died Saturday at his home. He was a self-employed accountant and an Air Force veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include daughters Marielle Peck of Lexington and Susan Peck of Nashville, Tenn.
No services are planned. Cremation will be at Baxter Cremation Service, Cincinnati. Stith Funeral Home, Florence, is handling arrangements.
Carl Lee Peters Jr., 22, of Newport, died Saturday at his father's home in Florence.
Survivors include his mother, Marilyn Peters of Newport; his father and stepmother, Carl Lee Peters Sr. and Connie Peters of Florence; a brother, James Peters of Newport; a stepbrother, Tony Centers of Elsmere; a stepsister, Kelli Centers of Elsmere; and grandmother, Grace Case of Newport.

Jacob Hunter Redman, son of James Jacob and Ashley Hunter Redman of Covington, was stillborn at 7 a.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
Other survivors include grandparents, James and Teresa Redman of Morning View, William Hunter of Florence and Elizabeth Hunter of Covington.

Robert Wallace Rich, 74, of Edgewood, died Wednesday at Villaspring Health Care Center, Erlanger. He was a former member of the Ponderosa Archery Club, a member of Golden Rod Bass Masters and a past president of Oxbow Association.
Survivors include a brother, Dr. James Rich of Taylor Mill; a niece and nephews.

Mary Elizabeth Tillman, 94, of Fort Thomas, died June 19 at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church, Fort Thomas. She also was a member of Fort Thomas Women's Club and Ryland Lakes Country Club, and she was past president of the Highlands High School PTA, Fort Thomas. Her husband, Wilbur G. Tillman, died in 1990.
Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth A. McSwain of Fort Thomas; sons, Ted D. Tillman of Fullerton, Calif., and Fred J. Tillman of Rome, N.Y.; a sister, Marjorie O'Connor of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a brother, Claude Brown of Frankfort; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
