Lawrence Giancola, loved police work

A police officer by trade, Lawrence Giancola was a strict father to his five children. "He knew everyone they went out with before they went out with them, " said his widow, Shirley Hammond Giancola.

Mr. Giancola, 72, who died Saturday in his Newport home, was a former Newport police officer, a sergeant with the Campbell County Police Department and chief deputy with the Campbell County Sheriff's Department.

"He loved police work. He loved to help people, " said his wife.

Mr. Giancola did things to help people that he never told his family about; the family learned from the people he helped. He was a member of Newport FOP Lodge No. 2, Campbell County FOP Beehive Lodge No. 48, Lawler-Hanlon VFW Post No. 5662 in Newport, Newport Elks and Bob White Club.

Mr. Giancola loved to play gin and golf with his friends at the Elks Club. He was an avid golfer, and every year he would visit his brother in Florida for a month and play golf there.

He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, where he earned a Purple Heart and a Silver Star. He didn't talk about his war experience until the last years of his life, his wife said, and even then he didn't say much. He always said that was a bad time that he put in the back of his mind and forgot about, she said.

Mr. Giancola was an outgoing man who seemed to encounter people he knew everywhere he went, his wife said.

Other survivors include sons John Giancola of Alexandria, Joe Giancola of Southgate and Larry Giancola of Burlington; daughters Joyce Goshorn of Highland Heights and Jackie Schweigert of Newport; sisters Antoinette "Netta" Dinger and Viola Barone, both of Cincinnati, and Tina Pferrman of Newport; 14 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Therese Church, Southgate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to Big Stef Inc., P.O. Box 1844, Newport, Ky. 41071, or Hospice of Northern Kentucky, 1403 Alexandria Pike, Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075.

Mary A. Agee, 83, of Florence, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Robert Lee Agee, and a son, Ross "Rocky" Agee, both preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, John Agee of Florence; a daughter, Sherry Luken of Florence; sisters Jean Lloyd of Lehigh Acres, Fla., and Ruth McCay of Fort Wright; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Burlington. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Daniel Lawrence Boyle, 41, of Erlanger, died Friday at his home. He was a jeweler with Boyle Jewelers, Elsmere.

Survivors include his parents, Larry and Kathy Boyle of Villa Hills; sisters Colleen Turman of Villa Hills and Cynthia Hannah of Burlington; a brother, Tim Boyle of Crescent Springs; and a fiancee, Sheila Prather of Erlanger.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Church, Crescent Springs. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Erlanger. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to Parish Kitchen, 141 Pike St., Covington, Ky. 41011; or Covington Catholic High School Building Fund, 1600 Dixie Highway, Park Hills, Ky. 41011.

Bryan Paul Brown, 54, of Bonita Springs, Fla., formerly of Northern Kentucky, died July 2 in Lovers Key/Carl E. Johnson State Park in Bonita Springs in an explosion. He was a pyrotechnician with Sunset Fireworks of Dittmer, Mo., and a Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War. His brother, Eugene Dayle Brown, also died in the blast.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Willena and Don Pulsfort of Warsaw; a brother, Greg Merrill; and a sister, Deborah Ann Brown. Memorial services will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Latonia Baptist Church. Memorials are suggested to Promise Keepers Kanakuk Kamps, 1353 Lakeshore Drive, Branson, Mo. 65616.

Memorial services will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Latonia Baptist Church. Memorials are suggested to Promise Keepers Kanakuk Kamps, 1353 Lakeshore Drive, Branson, Mo. 65616.

Charlotte E. "Sis" Giblin, 74, of Florence, died Saturday at Florence Park Care Center, Florence. She was a member of St. Paul Church in Florence and Daughters of America.

Survivors include a sister, Margorie Collins of Shelbyville, Ind.; nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Church, Florence. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to St. Paul Church, 7301 Dixie Highway, Florence, Ky. 41042. Stith Funeral Home, Florence, is handling arrangements.

Elizabeth "Bebe" Hunt, 96, of Covington, died Friday at St. Charles Care Center, Covington. She was a retired secretary with G&K; Plumbing Co., Cincinnati, and a member of St. Benedict Church, Covington, St. Mary Society and the Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption Ladies Society. Her husband, Matthew J. Hunt, died in 1962.

Survivors include sons Charles Hunt of Morning View and Matthew Hunt of Covington; nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Benedict Church. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to St. Benedict Church, 338 E. 17th St., Covington, Ky. 41014. Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger, is handling arrangements.

Ronald Edward Kenwright, 72, of Glencoe, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a mason.

Survivors include sons Ricky Alexander Kenwright of Cummins, N.C., Teddy Edward Kenwright, Rodney Kenwright and Alex Kenwright, all of Independence; daughters Terri Jean Morgan of Stanford, Becky Carter of Richwood, Sandy Kenwright of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Doris Fisk of Morning View; a sister, Joyce Murphy of Overland Park, Kan.; 22 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Crittenden, is handling arrangements.

John Thomas Rankin, 79, of Port Orange, Fla., formerly of Covington, died Sunday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach, Fla. Arrangements are pending at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia.

Wilma "Winnie" Vanlandingham, 74, of Butler, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker and a member of Butler Christian Church. Her husband, Harold Vanlandingham, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Julia Maxedon of Foster; a son, Paul Vanlandingham of Butler; sisters Alma Schafer of Grants Lick and Orel Brickler of Alexandria; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Peoples Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Grants Lick

James Allen Wade, 76, of Cynthiana, died Saturday at his home. He was a retired farmer, a member of Riverview Baptist Church in Cynthiana and an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys Wagner Wade; sons Richard Wade, Michael Wade and Tony Wade, all of Cynthiana; daughters, Cynthia Wright, Jamie Snapp, Lisa Courtney and Rebecca Snapp, all of Cynthiana; brothers William Wade, Robert Wade and Dillard Wade, all of Cynthiana; sisters Florene McNees, Lillian Livingood and Frances Denniston, all of Cynthiana; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday a t Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Battle Grove Cemetery, Cynthiana. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 508 E. Pike St., Cynthiana, Ky. 41031.

Dorothy Ward, 59, of Melbourne, died at 6:40 a.m. Saturday at Northern Kentucky Health and Rehabilitation Center, Highland Heights. She was a homemaker and a member of Faith Fellowship Baptist Church, Melbourne. A daughter, Diane Neace, died in 1999.

Survivors include her husband, Lewis Ward; her stepmother, Mattie Stamper of Austin, Ind.; a sister, Norma Combs of Silver Grove; and brothers Alvin Stamper of Cold Spring, Garland Stamper and R.J. Stamper, both of Austin, John Stamper of Watts and Orlando Stamper of Crittenden.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Faith Fellowship Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 tonight at Alexandria Funeral Home. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Faith Fellowship Baptist Church, 1505 Mary Ingles Highway, Melbourne, Ky. 41059.

James L. Webb, 95, of Williamstown, died at 5:30 a.m. Sunday at Grant Manor Health Care Center, Williamstown. He was a retired president and chairman of the board of the Bank of Williamstown, a former Grant County treasurer, and a member of the Kentucky Bankers Association. He was an Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Louise Collins Webb, died in 1999.

Survivors include sisters Jaunita Cornelius of Williamstown and Virginia Points of Wilmington, N.C.; nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will begin there at noon Wednesday. Burial will be in Williamstown Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Williamstown Christian Church, 318 N. Main St., Williamstown, Ky. 41097.

Joyce Bowman Wooten, 53, of Newport, died Friday at her home. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include daughters Karen Grayson and Sherry Wooten, both of Newport, and Rhonda Sizemore of Wilder; her mother, Juanita Bowman of Newport; brothers Cecil Bowman, Leland Bowman and Tommy Bowman, all of Newport; sisters Melissa Newton and Mary Smith, both of Newport; and nine grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at A.C. Dobbling and Son Funeral Home, Bellevue. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.
