Delores Marsh, 'knew everybody'
Delores Tieman Marsh was an outgoing person who talked to everybody she encountered.
So when her husband, Leslie, became chief of the Oak Ridge Volunteer Fire Department in Kenton County in the 1960s and went looking for an emergency dispatcher, his wife was a natural choice.
"The emergency number rang into our house, and she would answer it and then dispatch the members, " Leslie Marsh said.
"Two people for an ambulance run, more if it was a fire."
Mrs. Marsh died Tuesday at her home in Covington.
She was 70.
She spent most of her life taking care of her children and home. And her yard, where she enjoyed raising flowers, her husband said.
She also liked to camp with her husband at a site they maintained for many years on the Ohio River near Big Bone Lick State Park in Boone County.
"She was friendly, friendly, friendly, " Leslie Marsh said. "She knew everybody."
Mrs. Marsh was diagnosed with lung cancer in 1985, but battled it into submission. But then the disease returned again about two years ago, her husband said.
