Sandra B. Dickerson, 'wonderful' pastor
Sandra B. Dickerson "was a wonderful pastor" at Second Christian Church-Disciples Christ in Midway, a person who "brought a lot of spirituality into the church, " said Arnette Washington, a deacon there.
"She stuck with her scriptures and explained everything -- in a way that you can understand what the scriptures said to her, to everybody, " Washington said. "She was there right up until the end, singing and testifying every Sunday."
Rev. Dickerson died of complications from cancer Saturday at her mother's home in Covington. She was 53.
Her only daughter, Bridgette Offutt-Oden of Winchester, said that her sermons were straightforward and effective. She preached "just about the goodness of God, " Offutt-Oden said. "She was a strong believer in teaching people about God."
Annie Dickerson, Sandra Dickerson's mother, spoke fondly of her daughter. "She was a beautiful person; she didn't ever meet a stranger."
"She'd call me every morning and say, 'Mama, did you eat your breakfast' -- because I don't eat much -- and just to see how I was doing."
Sandra Dickerson was born in Covington, and attended Holmes High School. She also attended Cincinnati Bible College and Lexington Theological Seminary. In addition to being pastor in Midway, she had been an associate pastor at two other churches: United Community Christian Church in Covington and Fort Washington Christian Church in Hyattsville, Md.
