Harold F. Lipscomb, life-long casino dealer
Harold F. Lipscomb was "a kind man, a good husband and a good father, " said his wife, Dorothy Lipscomb. But as a life-long casino dealer, he got to indulge in another joy -- being with people.
"He loved people. He talked to everybody, " Mrs. Lipscomb said.
Mr. Lipscomb died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East of a heart attack. He was 67.
The Lipscombs lived it up in Newport before having children and moving to Las Vegas, she said. They lived there for 25-30 years until returning to Newport in 1996.
"We were young when Newport was wild -- the old Newport, " she said.
It was there that Lipscomb developed the skills that later helped his career as dealer, floor boss and executive at Vegas' Four Queens Casino -- dealing craps at the Yorkshire, an infamous Newport sports booking and gambling hall.
He was a sergeant in the Army for three years and a member of the Moose and Elks lodges in Las Vegas. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping, and also coaching local baseball teams in Las Vegas.
Other survivors include a son, Harold A. Lipscomb, of Las Vegas; a daughter, Debbie Griffith, of Newport; a brother, Donald Lipscomb, of Las Vegas; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Monday at 6 p.m. at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, 822 York St., Newport. Visitation will be there at 2 p.m. Monday. Cremation will be at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home and Crematory in Cincinnati.
Beulah Wardlow Baldwin, 81, of Newport, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Kenneth Baldwin, died in 2001.
Survivors include her son, James Wardlow of Brooksville; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Fares J. Radel Funeral Horne, Newport. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
Faye Miller Bishop, 81, of Elsmere, died Friday at Woodcrest Manor, Elsmere. She was a clerk retired from Shillito's Department Store, Cincinnati, and a member of Madison Avenue Baptist Church, Covington.
Survivors include her son, Edward L. Bishop of Erlanger; a daughter, Patricia Carol Hartman of Covington; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Mary Mildred Jackson Campbell, 81, of Carrollton, died Friday at her daughter's home in Lexington. She was a retired LPN for Lexington Manor Nursing Home, Lexington, a former employee of Carroll County Memorial Hospital, Carrollton, and a member of Cove Hill Baptist Church. Her first husband, Clarence Oldham, and second husband, Earl Campbell, both preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters, Donna K. Willhoite of Wyocena, Wisc., and Karen Oldham of Lexington; sons, Ronald Oldham of Danville, Johnnie Oldham of Carrollton and Leslie Oldham of Versailles; a stepdaughter, Nelda Wheat of Grand Sline, Texas; a sister, Nancy Bethel of Louisville; 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Graveside Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday in English Cemetery, Carroll County. Visitation will be from noon until the time of services Monday at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, Carrollton.
Herbert "Junior" Day, 57, of Walton, died Thursday at his home. He was an independent livestock dealer and part-time bartender at the Shamrock Inn and a member of Walton Masonic Lodge and Good Guys Club, Walton.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Vandt Day; daughters, Pamela S. Johnting of Demossville and Peggy E. Day and Jessica L. Day, both of Walton; a son, Matthew R. Day of Walton; sisters, Mollee Milner of Union and Janet Jones and Sylvia Spegal, both of Walton; brothers, William Willett of Walton, Richard Webb of Independence and Robert Cooper and John Kaltenback, both of Latonia; and a grandson.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Walton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in New Bethel Cemetery, Verona. Belle R. Hamilton, 88, of Dry Ridge, died Thursday at Grant Manor Health Care Center, Williamstown. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Steve Hamilton, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her niece, Carol Byrd of Dry Ridge.
Services will be at noon Monday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
Dorothy Hoop, 68, of Newport, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker and a member of New Testament Missionary Baptist Church, Newport.
Survivors include her husband, Edgar Hoop; daughters, Thelma Ridener of New Baltimore, Ohio, Rhonda Harrison of Michigan, Kathy Hoop of Newport and Phyllis Dotson Scott and Brenda Dodd, both of Dayton; sons, Jonathan McAlister of Fort Thomas, Shawn McAlister of Dry Ridge, Rick Hounchell of Hamilton, Ohio, Danny Hoop of Michigan and Clarence Hoop and Paul Hoop, both of Newport; her mother, Thelma Long of Bellevue; a sister, Robbin Foley of Dry Ridge; brothers, Basil "J.R." Johnson Jr. of Bellevue, Robert Fukano of Alexandria and Richard Fukano of Covington; 20 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday at New Testament Missionary Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until the time of services Monday at the church. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

James E. Stovall Jr., 11 days, of Covington, died at Good Samaritan Hospital, Cincinnati.
Survivors include his parents, Edie Brown and James Stovall Sr., both of Covington; brothers, Damain Stovall and Jamie Stovall, both at home; sisters, Brea Chapel, Jamaiya Stovall, Janice Stovall and Jashayna Stovall, all at home; and his grandmother, Sylvia Brown.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Jones and Simpson Funeral Home, Covington. Burial will be in Mary Smith Cemetery, Elsmere.
Ernest C. Toll, 76, of Fort Thomas, died Monday at his home. He was a foreman retired from Turner Construction Co., Cincinnati, a member of Southwest Ohio Carpenter's Union Local No. 698, a World War II Army veteran, and a medical laboratory technician and recipient of the World War II Victory medal and Good Conduct Medal. His wife, Virginia Overman Toll, died in 1992.
Survivors include daughters, Darlene Rechtin of Burlington, Susan Hilbert of Cincinnati, Rhonda Daniels of Fort Thomas and Shelly Alcorn and Judy Rieger, both of Bellevue; sons, Mark Toll of Wilder and Ernest Toll and Tim Toll, both of Dry Ridge; sisters, Virginia Deaton of Newport, Margaret Sensel of Boulder City, Nev., and Ruby Greene of Erlanger; 20 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services were held Friday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport. Burial was in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.
Edward G. Witte, 91, formerly of Newport, died Monday at Memorial Hospital, Chattanooga, Tenn. He was an engineer retired from the Tennessee Valley Authority. His wife, Clementine Hellman, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his daughter, Mary Phyllis Bosch of New Orleans, La.; sisters, Cecilia Steffen of Carlisle and Rose Manning and Loraine Thomas, both of Newport.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Chattanooga. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Chattanooga Funeral Home, Chattanooga. Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
