George McClanahan, 84, served country, Butler
After serving his country in World War II, George McClanahan turned his attention to serving his hometown of Butler.
"He was very interested in the little community and was devoted to taking good care of it, " said Mr. McClanahan's son, Larry McClanahan of Falmouth.
Mr. McClanahan volunteered for 50 years with the Butler Fire Department, including a stint as chief, served on the Butler City Council, and was director of the community's water and sewer department.
"He enjoyed being in Butler, " said his son. "You couldn't pry him out of there with a stick of dynamite."
Mr. McClanahan, 84, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.
He was a former agent for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co.
Mr. McClanahan was a member of Butler Christian Church and the Masonic lodge.
During World War II, he was a turret gunner on B-17 bombers.
"When he came home from the war -- all his hobbies were related to helping Butler, " Larry McClanahan said. "It was his home, and he wanted to do all he could to help the community."
Besides his son, survivors include his wife of 60 years, Juanita McClanahan; another son, Buck McClanahan of Burlington, and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Peoples Funeral Home in Butler.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Falmouth.
James A. Alford, 73, of Verona, died Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.
Arrangements are pending at Stith Funeral Home, Florence.
Kathleen Virginia "Kitty" Barnard, 72, of Crestview Hills, died Sunday at her home. She was a retired employee of the Kentucky Department of Transportation's Division of Right of Way. Her husband, C.A. Barnard, died in 2002.
Survivors include a son, Michael Barnard of Goshen, Ohio; sisters, Dorothy Clifford of Cincinnati, Nancy Jenkins of Falmouth and Geraldine Cummins of Foster; brothers, Harry Ramsey, Melvin Ramsey, Eugene Ramsey and Raymond Ramsey, all of Falmouth; and three grandchildren.
Services were this morning at Erlanger Baptist Church. Burial will be in Peach Grove Cemetery, Pendleton County. Ina Duncan Peddicord Boyers, 91, of Fort Thomas, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a retired practical nurse with Harrison Memorial Hospital, Cynthiana, and a member of Cynthiana Baptist Church. Her first husband, Elmer Peddicord, died in 1958. Her second husband, Ed Boyers, died in 1983. A son, Charles E. Peddicord, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Lorna Blackburn of Fort Thomas; two grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Drake Whaley McCarty Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Thursday. Linda Radtke Capps, 52, of Independence, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a payroll administrator with Verst Group Logistics and a member of Gardnersville Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Michael Dean Capps, and brothers, Donald Raymond Radtke of Chicago and Wayne Ernest Radtke of Bridgeview, Ill.

Sue Corbin, 70, of Bellevue, died Tuesday at Grant County Manor Nursing Home, Williamstown. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Elmer Corbin, died in 2001.
Survivors include sons, Charles Corbin of Florence, Bill Corbin of Camp Springs and Jim Corbin of Newport; a daughter, Linda Bunker of Grants Lick; brothers, Joseph Poulos of Cincinnati, Norbert Poulos of California and Paul Poulos of Florida; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Marie Williams Franklin, 82, of Holiday, Fla., formerly of California, died May 22 in Holiday. She was a retired employee of Palm Beach Clothes and Alexandria IGA, and an owner of A to Z Sewing, Alexandria. Her husband, Coshel Franklin, died in 1985.
Survivors include sons, Daniel Franklin and Michael Franklin, both of Foster; a daughter, Connie Myers of Holiday; brothers, Robert Lee Williams and James Williams, both of West Virginia, and Charles Williams of California; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Grace Katherine Mann, 84, of Burlington, died March 5 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Austin Mann, died in 1993. A son, Kenneth Eugene Mann, died in 1974.

Doug Manuel, 82, of Fort Myers, Fla., formerly of Butler, died Tuesday at Health Park Hospital, Fort Myers.

Lucy M. Mulvey, 81, of Latonia, died at 12:15 a.m. Tuesday at Rosedale Manor, Latonia. She was a retired private duty practical nurse with several nursing homes, and a former employee of Shillito's Department Store, Cincinnati. She was a member of Holy Cross Church, Latonia.
Survivors include a sister, Jean C. Mulvey of Latonia, nieces and nephews.

Alpha Willett Phelps, 80, of Maysville, died at 10:25 a.m. Monday at her home. She was a homemaker, a former teacher and a member of Central United Methodist Church and the Gideons International Auxiliary. Her husband, James "Jack" Walter Phelps, died in 1992.
Survivors include a daughter, Sue Goudy of Albuquerque; sons, Dale Phelps of Maysville and Dean Phelps of Fayetteville, Ga.; a sister, Charlotte Fenton of Fort Thomas; and a brother, Arthur "Bud" Willett of Pikeville.

James L. Snow, 71, of Owenton, died Monday at Frankfort Regional Medical Center. He was a truck driver with ABF. A daughter, Sherri Lynn Snow Isaacs, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma L. Snow; a brother, Marvin Snow of Russell Springs; sisters, Yvonne Morris of Louisville, Jeanetta Barnes of Virginia and Karen Isabel of Russell Springs; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Albert "Spanky" Underhill, 68, of Edgewood, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired welder with Ohio Valley Line, Cincinnati, and a member of St. Augustine Church, Covington, and Mullikin Corner Social Club, Covington. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Janis Durstock Underhill; a son, Terry Underhill of Taylor Mill; daughters, Kateri Thompson of Lakeside Park and Melisa Garnett of Edgewood; sisters, Gilta Koop of Elsmere, Monte Weber of Cincinnati, Darlo Tanner of Union, Darlene Ramsey of Mission, Texas, and Tonya Weese of Tampa, Fla.; and five grandsons.

Maxine Pratt Walker, 65, of Newport, died Monday at her daughter's home in Fort Thomas. She was a retired assistant director with Northern Kentucky Head Start and a member of Trinity Baptist Church, Newport. Her husband, James Walker, died in 1997.
Survivors include a daughter, Tracie Bricking of Fort Thomas; sons, Edward Kyle of Newport and Terry Kyle of Alexandria; and six grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
