David Lee Hearn, fun-loving
David Lee "Hacksaw" Hearn, a machine operator, guitarist, town councilman and father, had many sides to his personality. But it's his sense of humor that his wife of 38 years, Nettie G. Spenneberg Hearn, remembered most.
"He was a fun-loving guy -- a unique type of guy -- he was a humdinger, " she said.
Mr. Hearn, of Worthville, died Thursday at Baptist Hospital Northeast, LaGrange. He was 59.
"He was a great man and a great father; he was a statesman and a patriot, " said his son, Christopher Hearn of Cherry Point, N.C.
Mr. Hearn never attended high school, but worked hard from his childhood on in Owen County, said his sister, Anna Howell, of Worthville. As a Worthville town councilman for eight years, he often acted as interim mayor when the elected mayor was unable to preside at meetings, Mrs. Hearn said.
He was a heavy equipment operator for Ohio Valley Asphalt, Carrollton plant; a former employee of IKT Trucking and the Carroll County Road Department; a member and a former Sunday school superintendent and custodian at Worthville Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Valerie Cain of Carrollton; another son, David Matthew Hearn of Worthville; a sister, Anna Howell of Worthville; brothers, Ernest "Buddy" Hearn of Covington, Ralph Hearn of Owenton and Larry Hearn of Carrollton; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Worthville Cemetery.
Charles B. Friedl Jr., 73, of Hemphill, Texas, formerly of Covington, died Tuesday at Methodist Diagnostic Hospital, Houston, Texas. He was a machine tool operator retired from R.K. LeBlond Machine Tool Co., Cincinnati, a member of Syrian Shrine Temple, Cincinnati, a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite of Covington, Master Mason Lodge No. 109, Covington, and a Korean War veteran of the Navy.
Survivors include his wife, Cathleen Bradberry Friedl; daughters, Diane Lynn Hoersting of Union, and Laura Sue Randall, Billie Sue Coon and Carolyn Martin, all of Houston; a sister, Mary Sue Adams of Venice, Fla.; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Pat Riley Funeral Home, Woodville, Texas. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Allison Cemetery, Warren, Texas.
Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas, is handling local arrangements.
Marie Faye Fryman, 63, of Cynthiana, died Thursday at her home. She was a homemaker. Her husband, George Thomas Fryman, and a son, Steven Todd Fryman, both preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons, William Thomas Fryman and Frazier A. Fryman, both of Harrison County; brothers, Homer Ritchie, Donald Ritchie and Ronnie Ritchie, all of Harrison County; sisters, Bobbie Sexton of Paris, Bonnie Beckett of Florida and Ruby Conner and Rosetta Kiskaden, both of Cynthiana; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
Pearly Herald, 79, of Cold Spring, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a packer retired from Frank Tea and Spice, Cincinnati, and Durkee Foods, Sharonville, Ohio, a member of Church of Christ, Talbert, and Teamsters Union, Talbert.
Survivors include her husband, Virgil Herald; daughters, Jessie Raleigh and Judy Turner, both of Melbourne; a son, Allen Herald of Newport; sisters, Golden Raleigh of Newport and Daisy Turner of Melbourne; brothers, Allen Turner of Newport, James Herald of Jackson and William Herald of Hazard; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Deaton Funeral Home, Jackson. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Burial will be in Herald Family Cemetery, Talbert.
Lillie Carol Jones Kinlaw, 52, of Cape Coral, Fla., formerly of Walton, died at 4:15 a.m. Thursday at Hope Hospice, Cape Coral. She was a homemaker and a member of Vineyard Community Church, Cape Coral.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Kinlaw; daughters, Tricia Lynn Herald of Cape Coral and Michelle Ann Younger of Union; brothers, Douglas Jones of Kentucky, Mike Jones of Orlando, Fla., and David Davidson of Salisbury, N.C.; and a sister, Barbara Wiegand of Jonesboro, Ga.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home, Verona. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in New Bethel Cemetery, Verona.
Frank Scudder, 66, of Lexington, died Thursday at his home. He was a former truck driver for North American Van Lines and Atlas Van Lines, former funeral director, embalmer and partner at Dula and Scudder Funeral Home, Berea, a member of Gardenside Christian Church, Lexington and a veteran of the Army.
Survivors include his wife, Willetta Scudder; a son, Brooke A. Scudder of Lexington; a brother, Bill Bell of Midlothian, Va.; and a grandson.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Lexington cemetery Mausoleum Chapel, Lexington. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Burial will be in Lexington Cemetery.
Rita Ann Harmeling Taylor, 66, of Newport, formerly of Covington, died Thursday at her home. She was homemaker and a member of Cathedral Basilica of Assumption, Covington. A son, David Taylor, died in 1965.
Survivors include her husband, William Taylor; sons, Gary Taylor of Covington, Denny Taylor of Cocoa Beach, Fla., Randy Taylor of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Mark Taylor of Cincinnati; a daughter, Christina Estridge of Okeana, Ohio; sisters, Dorothy Mallott of Covington and Alam McGraw of Taylor Mill; nine grandchildren, 10 stepgrandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of services Monday at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Mother of God Mausoleum, Fort Wright. Memorial mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at The Cathedral Basilica of Assumption. Mimi "Sue" Turner, 67, of Ludlow, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a homemaker and a former cheerleading coach for the Ludlow Youth Football Program.
Survivors include her husband, Sherman Turner Sr.; a son, Sherman Turner Jr. of Ludlow; daughters, Beth Stephenson of Florence and Katie Turner of Ludlow; brothers, Larry Aytes of Ludlow and Mike Aytes of Villa Hills; a sister, Wanda Leach of Lebanon, Ohio; and a grandson.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
