Ralph 'Skeeter' Meyer, sports hall of famer and father of mayor
Ralph "Skeeter" Meyer, 80, of Bellevue, a star athlete in high school and the father of Bellevue Mayor Jack Meyer, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas.
He was a supply manager with Western Southern Life Insurance Co. in Cincinnati.
Mr. Meyer was a member of the Northern Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame and belonged to St. Anthony Church in Bellevue and Kersten O'Day VFW Post No. 2899 in Dayton.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
"He was a splendid athlete, " said Jack Meyer.
"He played on a championship basketball team at Dayton High School and won a conference championship in track in the 880-yard run.
"He also was an avid softball player for many years and a pretty good bowler."
Immediately after graduating from high school in 1942, Mr. Meyer and 14 of his buddies enlisted in the U.S. Navy as World War II raged.
Mr. Meyer was a familiar sight as he walked around Bellevue.
"He never drove a car, " said his son. "He walked everywhere. He would walk miles and miles a day.
"He was real friendly and real outgoing. He was always smiling. Even when he wasn't feeling as good as he once did, he never let on, he never complained.
"He was always there for his children and grandchildren."
Other survivors include his wife of 56 years, Louise Meyer; daughters, Patty Bucher and Mary Leedy, both of Bellevue; sons, Ralph Meyer of Bellevue and Joe Meyer of Cincinnati; a sister, Reda Hoffstedder of Fort Thomas; 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony Church in Bellevue.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at A.C. Dobbling and Son Funeral Home in Bellevue.
Burial will be in St. Stephen cemetery in Fort Thomas.

Erma Adams, 72, of Butler, died Sunday at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.

Allen Michael Bitz, 55, of Crittenden, died Saturday at his home.

Mary Louise Bronk, 78, of Covington, died at 5:05 a.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.
She was a retired bookkeeper with Walter Schott Buick, Cincinnati.
Her husband, Frank Bronk, died in 1996.
A son, Tony Bronk, died in 1981.
Survivors include a son, Paul Bronk of Warsaw; daughters, Linda Cook of Covington and Lois Massie of Union; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Benedict Church, Covington.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at Don Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Covington.
Entombment will be in St. Mary Mausoleum, Fort Mitchell.

Paul E. Cochran Jr., 71, of Covington, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
He was an employee of Lloyd Taylor Uniforms, Cincinnati.
A sister, Jean Allen, died Feb. 22.
Survivors include a sister, Joan Sheanshang of Fort Thomas; nieces and nephews.
Services will be at the convenience of the family.
Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.

Thelma Brooks Dungan, 84, of Williamstown, died today at Grant Manor Nursing Home, Williamstown.

Frank D. Fryman, 85, of Maysville, died at 7:48 a.m. Sunday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center, Maysville.
He was a retired employee of the Kentucky State Highway Department and a self-employed handyman.
His wife, Edith Marie Fryman, died in 1999.
Sons, Ricky Fryman, Terry Fryman and Frankie Fryman, and daughters, Alma Fryman and Wanda Fryman, also preceded him in death.
Survivors include daughters, Shirley Mullikin, Ruby Hayslip, Sandy Simmons, Paulette Elliott and Debbie Elliott, all of Maysville, Jean Kilgore of Logansport, Ind., and Sue Staggs of Tollesboro; sons, Mike Fryman and Timmy Fryman, both of Maysville; 42 grandchildren, 86 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Brell and Son Funeral Home, Maysville.
Visitation will begin there at 6 p.m. today. Burial will be in Maysville Cemetery.
Hazel Taylor Hammond, 94, of Edgewood, died Saturday at Brighton Gardens, Edgewood.

Wesley Benage Jenkins, 74, of Falmouth, died Friday at River Valley Nursing Home, Butler.
He was a retired farmer, milk truck drvier and employee of the Falmouth IGA supermarket.
He was a deacon with Turner Ridge Baptist Church and an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Evelyn Klaber Jenkins; a son, Dennis Wayne Jenkins of Falmouth; daughters, Pamela Charlene Duncan of Falmouth and Connie Rae Biddle of Falmouth; sisters, Carletta Gallagher and Christine Lovelace, both of Falmouth; and seven grandchildren.
Services were this morning at Turner Ridge Baptist Church.
Burial was in Turner Ridge Cemetery, Pendleton County.

Charles Edward Manausa, 91, of Erlanger, died Sunday at Village Care Center, Erlanger.
He was a retired car salesman, a member of the Optimist Club, and a golfer who represented Kentucky at the 1994 National Senior Olympics.
His first wife, Ada G. Manausa, died in 1990.
Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Manausa; sons, Terry Manausa of Lakeside Park and Trent Manausa of Tallahassee, Fla.; a daughter, Wendy Curry of Erlanger; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was a distribution worker with White Castle Restaurants, a former clerk with Van Luanna's department stores and a receptionist with Dr. Nelson Boyd in Independence.
Survivors include her husband, Raymond L. Orr Sr.; sons, Steven Shawn of Independence and Raymond L. Orr Jr. of Cincinnati; a daughter, Mary Beth Orr of Independence; brothers, Johnny Niceley of Front Royal, Va., and Morris Niceley of Covington; a sister, Fannie Wilson of Floyd, Va.; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Betty Lee Buckley Reinhart, 76, of Tulsa, Okla., formerly of Erlanger, died Friday at Angel House in Tulsa. She was a homemaker.
