Bernard John Haas, 75, printing company executive
Asked what kind of person her husband was, Jacqueline Marie Haas borrowed something that her daughter once said about him: "I never met a better man in my life."
Fort Thomas resident Bernard John Haas, who died Wednesday at age 75, always had a smile on his face and something nice to say about people, his widow said. "He was just a good, good person."
Born in Newport, he graduated from Newport Catholic High School and attended Xavier University. He met his future wife, the former Jacqueline Warndorf, at a dance sponsored by the Catholic Youth Organization. They were married
for 52 years.
During World War II, Mr. Haas guarded German prisoners for the Army. He entered the war late because of his youth.
He was retired from Steinhauser Inc., a printing company, where he was vice-president and general manager.
He had served as a Boy Scout leader and a Knothole baseball coach. He enjoyed playing golf as a member of the Pendleton Country Club, and was an avid Reds fan. He was a fourth-degree Knight of Columbus.
As a member of St. Catherine of Sienna parish, he helped count the weekly Sunday collection. The last time he did that task was three days before he died.
