Raymond Schwierjohann, retired NKU police officer
Raymond Joseph Schwierjohann never shied from a new challenge.
After losing his job as a printer with the Post and Times-Star, the Fort Thomas resident began a career as a police officer, going to the state police academy and landing a job as an officer with Northern Kentucky University in 1982. He retired five years ago.
He became interested in police work through his work as a volunteer firefighter with the Highland Heights Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.
Mr. Schwierjohann collected coins as a hobby, and was an avid photographer, said his daughter, Debbie Bryson of Highland Heights. "He was always taking a lot of pictures. He also liked to travel, " she said.
He often traveled with his son, Jeff Schwierjohann of Alexandria, a wildlife biologist, to places across the country. "He loved it. He's got pictures everywhere, " his daughter said.
Mr. Schwierjohann died Friday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas, at age 64. A son, Steven Schwierjohann, preceded him in death.
Other survivors include a son, David Schwierjohann of Southgate; sisters, Jeanne Colley of Tennessee and Nancy Hines of Cincinnati; a brother, Tom Schwierjohann of Bellevue; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at A.C. Dobbling and Son Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.
Bernard Christen, 84, of Bellevue, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a mechanic with General Electric Aircraft, Cincinnati, and a member of St. Bernard Church in Dayton.He was a bingo worker and a member of the 55 Club at the church, and was a member of the Dayton Eagles.
He also worked for the Wadsworth Watch Co.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Parks Christen, and a sister, Margaret Yetter of Fort Thomas.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Bernard Church.
Visitation will begin there at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to St. Bernard Church, 401 Berry St., Dayton, Ky. 41074; or Leukemia Society of America, 100 Merchant St., Cincinnati, Ohio 45246. A.C. David E. Doeker, 77, of Southgate, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
He was a retired advertisement salesman with the Post and Times Star in Cincinnati and the Catholic Register.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Doeker; sons, Andrew J. Doeker of Newport and David A. Doeker of Taylor Mill; a daughter, Denise Ferguson of Cincinnati; a sister, Marilyn Leonard of Cincinnati; and three grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Church, Bellevue.
Visitation will be from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at A.C. Dobbling and Son Funeral Home, Bellevue.

Thomas Edward Hughes, 53, of Covington, died Sunday at Hospice of Cincinnati.
He was a member of Fort Mitchell Baptist Church, the National Rifle Association and North American Hunting Association, and was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include a son, Sgt. Tom Edward Hughes II of Fort Hood, Texas; and sisters, Sharon Lynn Richardson and Paula Richardson, both of Hodgenville, Deborah Beck of San Antonio and Barbara Gerner of Cold Spring.

Leland Del Jennett, 65, of Brooksville, died Saturday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center, Maysville. He was a farmer.
Survivors include a sister, Nina Hedges, and a brother, Calvin Jennett, both of Brooksville.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Brooksville.
Visitation will begin there at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Brooksville Cemetery.
Werner W. Krebs, 74, of Crestview Hills, died Friday at his home. He was a retired electrical engineer with Nutone, Inc. in Cincinnati, and a member of United Church of God in Cincinnati.
Survivors include his wife, Emily Krebs; sons, Gregory Krebs of Crestview Hills and Kenneth Krebs of Walton; a sister, Elsie Biddle of Mason, Ohio; and a brother, Ralph Krebs of Cincinnati.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Forest Lawn cemetery Chapel, Erlanger. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice. Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger, is handling arrangements.
Shirley Woods McKinley, 66, of Lexington, formerly of Bracken County, died Thursday at University Medical Center, Lexington. She was a homemaker and a member of Epworth United Methodist Church, Lexington.

Stella "Irene" Riley, 35, of Brooksville, died at 1:20 a.m. Friday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center, Maysville. She was a cook with Carota's Pizza, Brooksville.
Survivors include her husband, David Riley; a daughter, Rebecca Irene Riley, at home; a son, Stephen Andrew Riley, at home; a brother, Donald Goddard of Brooksville; and a sister, Sherry Teegarden of Brooksville.

Joseph "Nick" N. Ryan, 20, of Florence, died Saturday at a friend's home in Florence. He was a laborer with Deming Remodeling Co., and a member of Delhi Christian Church, Cincinnati.
Survivors include a daughter, Katie Ryan of Florence; his parents, Joseph and Nancy Ryan of Florence; and a sister, Gina Coshenitzke of Alice Springs, Australia.

Katherine Nichol Kemper Slocum, 91, of Owenton, died Friday at Owenton Manor. She was a former employee of the Houston Chamber of Commerce. A son, Joseph Thornton Slocum Jr., preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Julia McBee of Decatur, Ga.; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Shirley Clayton Smith, 88, of Georgetown, formerly of Harrison County, died Friday at Georgetown Community Hospital.
He was a retired employee of Ladish Co., Cynthiana, and a member of Antioch Mills Christian Church, Harrison County. His first wife, Marguerite Smith, died in 1972. A daughter, Evelyn Smith Tolson, died in 1991.
Survivors include his wife, Mae True Smith of Berry; and sons, Gordon Smith and Wayne Smith, both of Berry.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Antioch Mills Christian Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at Woodhead Funeral Home, Berry, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. David C. Stitt, 28, of Maysville, died Saturday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center, Maysville, of injuries suffered in an auto accident. He was a lineman with Bluegrass Electric.
Survivors include a daughter, Natalie Stitt of Garrison; his father and stepmother, Donald R. and Carlotta Stitt of Flemingsburg; his mother and stepfather, Linda Sue and Jim McFarland of Maysville; a brother, Donald Lewis Stitt of Lewisburg; stepbrothers, Andy McFarland and Milton Hedges, both of Maysville; stepsisters, Debbie Perraut of Lexington, Shauna Short of Higginsport, Ohio, and Jamie McFarland of Flemingsburg; and grandmother, Geraldine Flora of Washington.

Charles "Bob" Tully, 82, of Erlanger, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
He was a retired truck driver with Central Steel and Wine Co., Cincinnati, and a union steward with Teamsters Union Local No. 100, Cincinnati.
Survivors include his wife, Maxine Staggs Tully, and a daughter, Debbie Tully Howard of Albuquerque.

Theodore Wilson Jr., 78, of Falmouth, died Saturday at River Valley Nursing Home, Butler.
He was a retired electrical technician with Siemans Co., Cincinnati and an Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Roma Grigson Wilson, died in 1987.
Survivors include a son, Theodore Wilson III of Falmouth; daughters, Roma Wilson Bradley of Newport and Susan Wilson of Erlanger; sisters, Elsie Adams and Joan Hart, both of Falmouth; a grandson and a great-granddaughter.

Virgil Young, 73, of Independence, died Saturday at his home. He was a member of World Wide Church of God, Fort Wright. A son, Joseph Daniel Young, died in 1981.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Mae Young; a son, James Young of Florida; brothers, Dealous Young of Indiana and Alonzo Young of Dry Ridge; sisters, Ethel Osborne of Jackson, Miss., Delphia Hooten of Walton and Nora Vaughn of Morning View; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Peoples Funeral Home, Butler. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Young Family Cemetery, Pendleton County.
