Jacqueline Hanselman, had time for everyone
Jacqueline Crook Hanselman was the kind of woman who had time for everyone, said her son, Richard Crook of Edgewood. "She never turned anybody away, " he said of the Latonia resident.
For 45 years, Mrs. Hanselman, who died Monday at age 75, served without pay as the organist and choir director at St. Stephen Episcopal Church in Latonia, where she was a member. She also performed for weddings and other occasions, also without pay, her son said.
She studied classical piano and voice at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, and she had an accomplished voice. "A lot of people came to the church just to hear her sing, " said her husband, J. Douglas Hanselman.
She loved classical music, but also the popular music of the 1940s and '50s, artists such as Doris Day, Frank Sinatra and Perry Como.
Mrs. Hanselman was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, now called TelecomPioneers, the largest industry-related volunteer organization in the world.
Her first husband, Paul Crook, died in 1971. Hanselman, her second husband, met her on the job at the former Western Electric in Cincinnati, where she worked for more than 37 years as a secretary.
"She could talk on the phone and type and do other things at the same time, " her husband said. "It was marvelous how she handled that."
Surgeries slowed her down in her later years, but she still enjoyed going out to eat with her husband. "We had a wonderful life, " Hanselman said.
