Alice Fields Linnemann, 83, enjoyed sharing gift of faith
Alice L. Fields Linnemann gave her family the gift of faith, a faith that showed itself in her prayer life and in how she treated others.
"She had a caring heart and the compassion of Christ, " said her son, Guy Linnemann of Ryland.
Mrs. Linnemann, who died Monday at age 83, gave money extravagantly to her family, friends or a favorite ministry. "Somehow, she wanted to make life more fair with her giving, " her son said.
A member of St. Henry Church in Elsmere, she attended Mass daily, and watched it on television when she was no longer able to get there in person.
She prayed the rosary daily, and her prayer list always had several pages of names.
Even total strangers would share their intimate thoughts with Mrs. Linnemann, her son said, because they sensed that she truly loved them and they were important to her.
Raised in poverty, she and her siblings kept warm by heating bricks in the fireplace and taking them to bed.
A member of St. Henry High School's first graduating class, she won a full scholarship to Villa Madonna College, but family finances forced her to join the work force.
She married
her husband of 50 years, the late George E. "Bud" Linnemann, in 1943, during the middle of his military service in World War II. When he returned home after the war, they lived above their newly formed funeral home business, which eventually became the Linnemann Funeral Homes in Northern Kentucky.
She served as the original dispatcher for the funeral home's ambulance service, while she was raising five children.
It was a struggle, her son said, but she still made her children feel special.
"She was the glue that made growing up in the Linnemann family special, " her son said.
Mrs. Linnemann was a member of the St. Henry Altar Society, the Blessed Sacrament Plus 55 Club, St. Agnes Social Club and St. Pius X Prayer Group. Her husband died in 1993.
