Robert Dameron, had a love for automobiles
Robert Joseph Dameron loved cars almost as much as he loved people.
As a young man, he raced at the Edgewater and Thorn Hill drag strips. Later in life, he drove and occasionally showed his 1974 Corvette, on which he did all the maintenance.
"He was a car enthusiast. He had a lot of buddies who loved cars, too, and they hung together, " said Mr. Dameron's wife, Peggy Dameron of Cold Spring.
Mr. Dameron, 65, died Wednesday morning at his home after a nine-year struggle with non-Hodgkins lymphoma. He had multiple stem-cell transplants and battled the disease to a standstill before it later returned.
"He was a fighter, " his wife said.
The cancer prompted his retirement from Pride Cast Metals in Cincinnati, where he was vice president, about five years ago. He was with Pride Cast for 14 years, and for 25 years before that with a predecessor company, Ohio Pattern Works. He started at the latter company straight out of Campbell County High School doing maintenance on equipment and eventually rose into administration.
"He was very personable, " Peggy Dameron said. "People loved him because he was good to them."
After he retired, he and his wife rehabbed a house in Cold Spring into their new home.
"We didn't have any children, " she said. "Cars and houses were our thing.
"He was a wonderful husband and a great family man."
Mr. Dameron was a member of the Fort Thomas Corvette Club and Asbury Methodist Church, Highland Heights.
Surviving in addition to his wife is a sister, Dorothy Dameron of Highland Heights.
