Matilda Espenscheid, co-owner of company

Matilda "Sis" Listerman Espenscheid, 86, of Fort Thomas, a retired co-owner of the Fred Espenscheid Plumbing Co. in Fort Thomas, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit in Covington.

She and her husband, Fred Espenscheid, who died in 1978, started the plumbing company 50 years ago, and Mrs. Espenscheid continued doing book work and banking for the family firm until her death.

She was a member of St. Therese Church in Southgate for 60 years, a member of St. Therese Altar Society for 41 years and served on the parish council.

She did volunteer work for the Good Shepherd Sisters of Fort Thomas, was a poll worker for elections and was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Seniors and Fort Thomas Seniors.

"Her whole life was filled with faith, hard work, friends and fun, " said her daughter, Judy Gilliam of Fort Wright. "She was a faith-filled woman who loved a good time. She loved to entertain, enjoyed playing cards with friends and loved to celebrate.

"She was very active. People tell me, 'You don't know what your mother did for me.' She had many friends who loved her deeply."

Mrs. Espenscheid was a hard worker all her life, said her daughter.

"When she and my father started the plumbing business 50 years ago, she kept all the books, " Mrs. Gilliam said. "She was the backbone of the business, the heart of it.

"After my father died and my brother and my husband continued the business, she kept doing the book work right up until she died.

"Until going into the hospice a few days ago, she took care of her own home, inside and out. She was an avid gardener."

She was a member of the Northern Kentucky Master Plumbers Auxiliary.

Other survivors include a son, Fred F. Espenscheid of Southgate, and six grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Therese Church in Southgate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home in Fort Thomas. Burial will be in St. Stephen cemetery in Fort Thomas.

Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.

Mildred Ruth Allgeier, 86, of Highland Heights, died at 4:15 p.m. Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a retired silkscreen operator with Wadsworth Watch Case Co., Dayton, and a member of Senior Citizens of Campbell County.

Survivors include a son, Ralph Allgeier of Highland Heights; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. Cremation will be at Southwest Ohio Crematory, Milford, Ohio. Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport, is handling arrangements.

Lillian Marie Hudson Buechel, 74, of Florence, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. She was a homemaker. Her son, Barry Beach, died in 2002.

Survivors include her husband, William Buechel; a daughter, Linda Jackson of Foley, Ala.; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be at11 a.m. Thursday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 6612 Dixie Highway, Suite 2A, Florence, Ky. 41042.

Donna Louise Butler, 74, of Cold Spring, died Monday at her home. She was a retired employee of Proctor & Gamble, Cincinnati, and a member of Alexandria Church of Christ.

Survivors include her sister, Sue Wagoner of Highland Heights.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Alexandria Church of Christ. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Entombment will be in Evergreen cemetery Mausoleum, Southgate.

Zettie Berkley Chapman, 101, of Dry Ridge, died Monday at her daughter's home in Dayton. She was a homemaker and a member of Bethany Baptist Church, Williamstown. Her husband, John Alfred Chapman, died in 1984.

Survivors include daughters, Mildred Webster of Williamstown and Virginia McKnight of Dayton; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery, Dry Ridge. Memorials are suggested to Bethany Baptist Church, Williamstown, Ky. 41097.

Chase Anthony Crowley, 3 days, son of Monica Lynn and Kyle Anthony Crowley of Highland Heights, died at 6:50 p.m. Sunday at Children's Hospital Medical Center, Cincinnati.

Other survivors include grandparents, J.C. and Myra Jane Crowley of Grants Lick and Bernard and Evelyn Verst of Cold Spring.

Mass of Christian burial was this morning at St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring. Burial was in St. Mary Cemetery, Alexandria. Memorials are suggested to Ruth Lyons Children's Fund, P.O. Box 59, Cincinnati, Ohio 45201. Alexandria Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Linda S. Willen Gerba, of Pittsburgh, formerly of Northern Kentucky, died April 15 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

Survivors include her husband, John David Gerba; daughters, Michelle Krick, Annette Ryan, Sandra K. Roberts and Rachel Gerba; a son, Michael D. Roberts; nine brothers and sisters, and nine grandchildren.

Services were Saturday in Pittsburgh. Burial was in Southside Cemetery, Pittsburgh. Howard A. Farnsworth Funeral Home, Pittsburgh, handled arrangements.

Mary Elizabeth Gerrein, 90, of Covington, died at 8:20 a.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. She was a retired telephone operator with AT&T.;

Survivors include cousins.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Agnes Church, Fort Wright. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright. Memorials are suggested to Parish Kitchen, 141 Pike St., Covington, Ky. 41011; or St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Ky. 41014.

Amy Nicole Hunt, 23, of Ludlow, died Sunday from injuries sustained in automobile accident Sunday in Bromley.

Arrangements are pending at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Ludlow.

Melvin Martin, 75, of Sanders, died Sunday at his home. He was a retired landscaper and a nursery worker, and an Army veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Dishman Martin; three daughters, Brenda Lawson, Melva Marksberry and Shelia Martin, and a stepson, Donald Stacy.

Survivors include daughters, Deloris Howell of French Lick, Ind., Margie Martin and Debbie Crawford, both of Sanders; brothers, Larry Martin of New Jersey and Buddy Martin of Georgia; 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. EDT today at Highland cemetery Chapel, Prospect, Ind. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Prospect. Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, Carrollton, is handling arrangements.

Rose McVay, 80, of Pendleton County, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. Arrangements are pending at Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth.

Opal Osborne, 91, of Glencoe, died Sunday at Gallatin Health Care Center, Warsaw. He was a retired farmer and a member of Jonesville United Methodist Church. A son, Richard Thomas Osborne, died in 1983.

Survivors include his wife, Catherine Chipman Osborne; sons, David Bruce Osborne and Roy Malcolm Osborne, both of Jonesville.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge. Visitation will be 4 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Jonesville Cemetery.

Ida B. Palladino, 86, of Highland Heights, died Sunday at Northern Kentucky Care and Rehabilitation Center, Highland Heights. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Philip Church, Melbourne. Her husband, Joseph Palladino, died in 2000.

Survivors include daughters, Mary Day of Peach Grove and Alice Wagner of Highland Heights; sons, Joseph Palladino of Richmond, Clifford Palladino of Alexandria and Henry Palladino of Silver Grove; a sister, June Lefever of Cincinnati; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Radel Funeral Home, Highland Heights. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.

Emma Timmerding Riley, 95, of Latonia, died at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Rosedale Manor, Latonia. She was a homemaker and a member of Holy Cross Church, Latonia, Cathedral Ladies Society and American Legion Post No. 203, Latonia. Her husband, Charles Riley, died in 1956.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian burial will be at noon Friday at Holy Cross Church. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested in the form of Masses.

Mary Miller Strode, 76, of Augusta, died Monday at Augusta Health Care Center. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Gilbert Sherman Strode, died in 1993.

Survivors include daughters, Brenda Snapp of Dover, Sarah McKenzie, Jessie Stitt and Sharon Gilbert, both of Augusta; a son, Gilbert Sherman Strode Jr. of Atlanta; brothers, John Robert Miller and Aaron Miller Jr., both of Flemingsburg; a sister, Lyda Mae Flora of Flemingsburg; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Brooksville. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery, Augusta.

Howard Teal, 75, of Butler, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was a retired truck driver with Allied Van Lines, Cincinnati, and an Army veteran.

Survivors include daughters, Joyce Morrison of Elsmere and Bonnie Brown of Dry Ridge; a son, Tommy Teal of Butler; sisters, Audrey McCowan of Gallatin County and Vivian Herald of Newport; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Visitation will begin there at 5 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery.

Virginia "Ginnie" Trame, 94, of Ludlow, died Monday at Mandonna Manor, Villa Hills. She was a homemaker and a member of St. John Church in Covington, the Ludlow Civic Club and Fort Wright Leisure Timers. Her husband, Bernard Trame, died in 1972. A daughter, Joyce Schroeder, died in 2000.

Survivors include daughters, Jane Morris of Cincinnati and Jillene Trame of Villa Hills; sisters, Frances O'Hara of Topeka, Kan., and Irene Klug of Park Hills; nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. John Church, Covington. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to Madonna Manor, 2344 Amsterdam Road, Villa Hills, Ky. 41017.

William A. White, 69, of Clearfield, Pa., formerly of Covington, died Wednesday at his home. He was an auto mechanic and construction worker, and a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 97, Clearfield. His first wife Mary Ann Simms White, and a daughter, Sharon K. White, both preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Welch White; sons, William T. White of Kentucky and Vernon A. White of Curwensville, Pa.; a daughter, Beulah "Penny" White of Clearfield; a sister, Patricia House of Lakeside; brothers, E. Vernon White of Erlanger, Jack White of Covington and Gerald White of Fort Wright; and a granddaughter.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Bradford Cemetery, Woodland, Pa. Memorials are suggested to charity or Family of William A. White, P.O. Box 27, Olanta, Pa. 16863. Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield, is handling arrangements.

Katherine Wise, 94, of Williamstown, died Sunday at Grant Manor Health Care Center, Williamstown. She was a homemaker and a member of Landmark Baptist Church, Cincinnati.

Survivors include grandchildren, Shawn Ivey, Nicholas Ivey and Zachary Ivey, all of Erlanger. Services will be private. Cremation will be at Southwest Ohio Crematory, Milford, Ohio. Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge, is handling arrangements.
