Fred Tirey, store owner, Sunday school teacher
Fred Tirey, 81, of Ludlow, owner of Tirey Grocery Store in the Mount Adams neighborhood of Cincinnati in the 1950s and 1960s, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.
He also worked as a counter manager at Mills Restaurant and as a painter for American Tool Co., both in Cincinnati.
Mr. Tirey was a deacon and Sunday school teacher for more than 50 years at Bethlehem Baptist Temple in Ludlow.
"He was very active in the church, " said Mr. Tirey's son, Freddie Tirey of Florence. "He enjoyed farming, gardening and hunting. He was a member of the National Rifle Association.
"He was very pleasant and very honest."
Other survivors include his wife, Margaret Taylor Tirey; brothers, Ruford Tirey of Independence and Bradley Tirey of Morning View; sisters, Della Tirey of Latonia and Geneva Harrison of Butler; a granddaughter, two step-grandsons and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home in Independence.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Arlington Memorial Gardens in Cincinnati.

Emmitt "Buddie" Arnold, 87, of Williamstown, died Sunday at Grant Manor Health Care Center, Williamstown.

Agnes Beckmeyer, 98, of Fort Wright, died Sunday at St. Charles Care Center, Covington.

Mary A. Cooper, 86, of Covington, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

Bernard S. Dirkes, 64, of Morning View, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington.
He was a retired baker with Remke Markets and a member of St. Matthew's Church, Morning View.
He was a past president of the Taylor Mill Lions Club No. 43, a former region chairman with the Lions Club and winner of the club's Melvin Jones Award.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Dirkes; sons, Kenneth Wayne Evans, James "Bill" Evans, John Evans and Brian Evans, all of Morning View; daughters, B. Diane Baldwin of Morning View, Valeria Dirkes and Michelle Dirkes, both of Arizona; sisters, Mary Margaret Metzger of Alexandria and Helen Evans of Florence; brothers, Earl Dirkes of Foster, Henry Dirkes of Burlington and George Dirkes of Covington; and 18 grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Matthew's Church, Morning View. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Ronald R. Hemsath, 68, of Walton, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.
He was a retired plumber with Helmer Plumbing Co., Covington, and was a member of Crescent Squares square dancing club.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Ann Williams Hemsath; a brother, Jerry Hemsath of Independence; and a sisters, Judy Mueller of Independence.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery. Kathleen Ann O'Brien Knight, 59, of Verona, died Sunday at her home.
She was a licensed practical nurse with Patient First, Union.
Survivors include a son, Kevin Fulks of Crittenden; a daughter, Kendra Jodway of Verona; a brother, Edward O'Brien Jr. of Dry Ridge; a sister, Erin Kay O'Brien of Verona; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Services will be at the convenience of the family.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home, Verona.
Cremation will be at Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati.

Edythe Putnam Tallon, 81, of Fort Thomas, died at 12:37 p.m. Friday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
She was a retired nurse and a member of Speers Hospital Nursing Alumni.
Her husband, William Thomas Tallon, a son, William Thomas Tallon Jr., and a daughter, Debre Lynn Allison, all preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Cyndi Klein of Alexandria; brothers, William Harold Putnam of Boyds, Md., and Robert Donald Putnam of Lawrenceburg, Ind.; a sister, Polly Cilo of Sanford, Fla.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

John E. "Jack" Wright, 62, of Covington, died at 12:31 p.m. Saturday at his home.
He was a self-employed construction worker and an Army veteran.
Survivors include daughters, Sharon Lay of Florence and Becky Mullins of Covington; sons, Bernie Wright and Jon Wright, both of Taylor Mill; brothers, Robert Wright of Park Hills and Bernie Wright of Covington; a sister, Becky O'Donnell of Erlanger; and nine grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington.
Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright.
