Alverta Hampton, 90, liked being a leader
Alverta Hampton liked to take charge. She wasn't a follower, said her granddaughter, Pat Mahan of Covington.
"She was the boss, " Mahan said.
Mrs. Hampton, who died Wednesday at her home in Hebron, lived to be 90, outliving her three daughters, Bessie Moscoe, Thelma Riddle and Norma Jean Stone-Spradlin.
She worked as a cashier for the former Rink's Department Store in Florence.
She was also active in many organizations. She fixed meals for firefighters as a member of the Hebron Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She played a kazoo in the Jack & Jill Kazoo Band with other senior citizens from the Senior Citizens of Northern Kentucky.
She volunteered with the Sand Run Baptist Church and with Booth Hospital, and worked with the Daughters of America and the Erlanger Lions and Lionesses.
"She was very active until the past couple of months, " Mahan said. "Her mind was sharp. She could remember everything. She could remember phone numbers I couldn't remember."
Survivors include her husband, Edgar Hampton; sons, Emerson Moscoe and Richard Moscoe, both of Hebron, and Ernest Moscoe of Elsmere; 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 25 great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sand Run Baptist Church in Hebron. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Ruth Purcell Allen, 89, of Latonia, died at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a homemaker and a volunteer with the St. Vincent DePaul Society. Her husband, William Taft Allen, died in 1961. A son, Billy Forrest Allen, died in 1951.
Survivors include daughters, Jean Doyle of Mays Lick, Peggy Jo McVey of Greensburg, Ind., Sandy K. Ayers of Florence and Mary Ellen Cooper of Latonia; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Friday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Shannon Cemetery, Mason County.
Flora Madaline Arsenault, 77, of Denton, Texas, formerly of Newport, died Sunday in Denton. She was a restaurant manager and a member of Highland Baptist Tabernacle, Fort Thomas. Her husband, Frank Arsenault, preceded her in death.
Survivors include brothers, C. Gene McKee of Florida and Robert McKee of Denton; sisters, Jessie Eastman of Delores Midge Shields of Newport and Betty Davis of Lexington.
Services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice. Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport, is handling arrangements.
Isabel Rose Brauch, 41 days, daughter of Barry and Anita Brauch of Fort Mitchell, died Tuesday at Children's Hospital Medical Center, Cincinnati.
Other survivors include a sister, Lydia Golden Brauch, at home; grandparents, James and Rosemary Brauch of Fort Thomas and Otis and Alice Hilborn of Frankfort; and great-grandmother, Geneva Golden of Hot Springs, Ark.
Services will be at 11:15 a.m. Friday at Blessed Sacrament Church, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to Isabel Rose Brauch Memorial Fund, in care of any Fifth Third Bank. Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger, is handling arrangements.
Hazel Emily Caufield, 91, of Crestview Hills, died at 11:10 p.m. Tuesday at Woodcrest Manor Nursing Home, Elsmere. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Lane C. Caufield, died in 1993.
Survivors include sons, Page W. Caufield of New York and Jeffrey H. Caufield of Cleveland; daughters, Laurie C. Caufield of Fort Mitchell and Holly M. Caufield of Cleveland; and two grandchildren.

Tracy Anne Petrie Evans, 31, of Alexandria, died Sunday at her home. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Scott Thomas Evans; daughters, Abigail Anne Evans and Natalie Carol Evans, both of Alexandria; her parents, Robert and Carol Anne Petrie of Cold Spring; a sister, Amy Marie Hamm of Cincinnati; and grandmother, Dorothy Petrie of Cold Spring.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. John the Evangelist Church, Dayton. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. tonight at Alexandria Funeral Home. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery. Dorothy M. Lawson, 77, of Bedford, died Tuesday at Norton's Hospital in Louisville.
Survivors include daughters, Frances Powell of Bedford, Delores Younger of Crittenden and Margaret Taylor of Milton; a son, Anthony Lawson of Pendleton County and David Lawson of Lexington, Ind.; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Ransdell Funeral Home, Bedford. Visitation began there at 9 a.m. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Bedford.
Virginia C. "Winnie" Leep, 78, of Carrollton, died Wednesday at King's Daughters Hospital in Madison, Ind. She was a retired clerk with the Kentucky Department of Parks at General Butler State Resort Park in Carrollton. She was a former operator with South Central Bell Telephone and a member of First Baptist Church of Carrollton. Her husband, John B. Leep Sr., died in 1993.
Survivors include a son, John B. Leep Jr. of Carrollton; a brother, James E. "Pete" Hawkins of San Diego; and three grandchildren.

Margareth Mary Maile, 91, of Covington, died at 11:35 p.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was an administrative secretary with the former Texas Eastern Oil Co. and a member of St. Pius X Church, Edgewood.
Survivors include a brother, Ed Maile of Edgewood; nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Charles Care Center Chapel, Covington.
Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Robert L. Siegel, 73, of Alexandria, died at 2:20 p.m. Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a retired pharmacist and owner of Siegel Pharmacy in Alexandria, a member of Campbell County VFW Post No. 3205, Alexandria Lions Club and Knights of Columbus Father DeJaco Council No. 5250 in Alexandria. His wife, Marie Googins Siegel, died in 1991.
Survivors include daughters, Kathleen Franzen and Patricia Kohls, both of Camp Springs, and Laurie Schneider of Grants Lick; sons, Rob Siegel and Tom Siegel, both of Alexandria; sisters, Betty Siegel and Mary Lea Siegel, both of Cincinnati; and six grandchildren.

Elwood "Bud" Sullivan, 84, of Fort Mitchell, died at 1 a.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired truck driver with Stanley Trainter, Latonia, a member of St. John Church in Covington and Pohlmann-Linnemann VFW Post No. 1484, and was an Army veteran of World War II. A son, Danny Sullivan, died in 2000.
Survivors include his wife, Loraine Corbin Sullivan; sons, Dennis Sullivan and Timothy Sullivan, both of Covington; daughters, Arlene Remley of Erlanger, Charmaine Wire of Ludlow, Kathleen Thompson of Independence and Lisa Kruempelman of Fort Wright; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John Church, Covington. Visitation will be from 8:30 to 10:15 a.m. Saturday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Bonnie Sue Webster, 73, of Taylor Mill, died at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Highlands of Fort Thomas nursing home. She was a homemaker and a member of Latonia Christian Church. Her husband, E.E. "Red" Webster Jr., died in 1989.
Survivors include a daughter, Peggy S. Moore of Liberty Township, Ohio; and sisters, Joanne Meece of Florence, Delores Wolfzorn of Erlanger and Carol Mai of Erlanger.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Latonia Christian Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 tonight at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.
