Thomas McGlone, loved helping people, and working in his garden
Thomas M. McGlone was an avid gardener who took special delight in raising roses and tomatoes.
Mr. McGlone, 89, a former supervisor with the William Powell company in Cincinnati, died at 6 p.m. Thursday at Villaspring Health Care Center in Erlanger.
Mr. McGlone grew up in Latonia and was a longtime member of Holy Cross Church in Latonia and was treasurer of the church's St. Vincent DePaul Society.
"He dealt with people who were in a crisis situation, " said his daughter, Carol Ann McGlone of Villa Hills. "He would take the calls and then find the items the families needed."
Mr. McGlone met his wife, Mary O'Donnell McGlone, when they were both working at the Powell offices on Colerain Avenue in Cincinnati. He left to serve in the Army Air Corps during World War II, and then returned to Powell, working there a total of nearly 30 years.
"He was a quiet person, who loved his home and his family, " said his wife.
Mr. McGlone had enjoyed gardening since he was a young boy, she said.
"He raised roses and tomatoes, " Mrs. McGlone said.
He passed the love of gardening on to his daughter, Mrs. McGlone said.
He also enjoyed golfing and taught his son the game, she said.
He retired in 1978. In 1997 he and his wife moved to an apartment in Fort Mitchell and later moved to a condo in Villa Hills.
A daughter, Mary Overbeck, died in 2000.
Other survivors include a son, John McGlone of Villa Hills; a sister, Virginia McGlone of Latonia; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Holy Cross Church. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Monday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright. Memorials are suggested to St. Vincent DePaul Society, Holy Cross Church, 3612 Church St., Covington, Ky. 41015.
Sherman Joseph "Frenchy" Bourgeois, 50, of Newport, died Jan. 31 in a Pike County auto accident. He was a truck driver and a member of Iron Horsemen Motorcycle Club.
Survivors include his wife, Lisa Bourgeois of Rochester, N.Y.; daughters, Tina Bourgeois, Tonya Bourgeois and Tata Bourgeois, all at home; and his mother, Barbara Bourgeois of Biloxi, Miss.
Memorial services will be at 8 p.m. Monday at Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will begin there at 4 p.m. Monday. Cremation was in Pike County.
Rosella Hearn Grause, 83, of Cold Spring, died at 7:30 p.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a retired bookkeeper with the Grause Tile Co., Bellevue.
Survivors include her husband, Fred Grause; a daughter, Rosella Giesler of Cincinnati; sons, Larry Grause of Covington, David Grause of Cold Spring and Ken Grause of Fort Thomas; a sister, Agnes Anderson of Fort Thomas; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Fort Thomas. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 3 Chalfant Place, Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075. Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas, is handling arrangements.
Laferhn C. Rottman, 85, of Cold Spring, died at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday at Northern Kentucky Care and Rehabilitation Center, Highland Heights. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Francis de Sales Church, Newport.
Survivors include her husband, Robert J. Rottman; a son, Robert Rottman of Cold Spring; and two grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring. Visitation will begin there at 9:30 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice. Radel Funeral Home, Highland Heights, is handling arrangements.
Albert Lawrence Woodruff, 83, of Cythiana, died Thursday at his home. He was a bulldozer operator. A son, David Glen Woodruff, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Alberta Whalen Woodruff; a son, Larry Kenneth Woodruff of Cynthiana; daughters, Joyce Faye Welch of St. Petersburg, Fla., Brenda Diane Hicks of Maysville and Judy Vaughn of Cynthiana; a brother, Roy Woodruff of Bracken County; sisters, Josie Mae Poe of Bracken County and Marie Tulle of Felicity, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Kentontown Cemetery, Robertson County. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 508 E. Pike St., Cynthiana, Ky. 41031.
