William J. Becker, 62, 'guy you could count on'
William J. Becker, 62, of Fort Wright, a retired service technician with Cincinnati Bell Telephone Co., died of a heart attack Friday while on a golfing trip with friends in Alabama.
Mr. Becker worked more than 30 years with Cincinnati Bell. He was a past president of the St. Agnes Church parish council and Holy Name Society in Fort Wright. He also drove school buses for Beechwood and Erlanger school field trips.
"He was easy-going, nice and friendly, " said Mr. Becker's wife of 37 years, Donna Becker. "He was quiet and steady. He was dependable, a guy you could count on.
"He loved to play golf and was involved in a couple of golf leagues.
"He also enjoyed traveling to Pittsburgh and Boston to visit with our children. And, he enjoyed spending time in Florida."
Other survivors include sons, Steve Becker of Beverly, Mass., John Becker and Andy Becker, both of Covington; a daughter, Sharon Berk of Pittsburgh; brothers, Tom Becker and Bob Becker, both of Cincinnati, and Jerry Becker of Nokomis, Fla.; sisters, Pat Espelage and Peggy Eichhold, both of Cincinnati; and four granddaughters.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Agnes Church, Fort Wright. Visitation will begin there at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Anna Belle Alford, 67, of Verona, died Saturday at Gallatin County Health Care Center, Warsaw. She was a homemaker and a member of New Bethel Baptist Church, Verona.
Survivors include her husband, James A. Alford; a son, Rick Stephens of Verona; daughters, Donna Stephens of Worthville and Deborah Dove of Covington; his mother, Anna Sims of Florence; brothers, Bobby Likes of South Carolina and Bill Sims of North Carolina; a sister, Kitty Richardson of Georgia; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Stith Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to Cancer Treatment Centers of America, 2408 E. 81st St., Tulsa, Okla. 74137.
Kiely Madyson Best, of Taylor Mill, died Friday in a friend's home in Covington.
Survivors include her parents, D.J. and Wendy Best of Taylor Mill; grandparents, Wayne and Janice Wiggins of Rayville, La., and Don and Lee Best of Taylor Mill; and great-grandparents, Dempsey and Lois Wiggins of Rayville.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington, followed by prayers. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Linda Jean Herring, 40, of Williamstown, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Grant County, Williamstown. She was a former systems operations manager with Globe Furniture Galleries, Cincinnati and a member of Mason Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Chris Herring of Williamstown; her parents, Carlos R. Herring Sr. of Burlington and Jean Williams of Williamstown; a brother, Carlos R. "Bud" Herring Jr. of Williamstown; and a sister, Deborah Lynn Richardson of Cynthiana.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mason Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Mason Cemetery. Audrey Maus Jarvis, 80, of Highland Heights, formerly of Newport, died at 6:05 p.m. Saturday at her home.
She was a real estate saleswoman for Huff Realty.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Jarvis; a son, Richard A. Jarvis of Highland Heights; a brother, Norman Maus of Southgate; and a sister, Nancy Kistner of Cincinnati.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Floral Hills cemetery Chapel, Taylor Mill. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.
Mary S. Johnson, 43, of Florence, died Saturday at her home.
Arrangements are pending at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia.
Shirley Engel McCracken, 64, of Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Wayland Aldred McCracken, died in 1988.
Survivors include sons, Mark McCracken and Wayne C. McCracken, both of Williamstown; a daughter, Karen McCracken of Williamstown; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Arlington Memorial Gardens, Cincinnati.
Raymond C. Waite, 91, of Ludlow, died Monday at his home. He was a storeman with the Southern Railroad, a past master of Masonic Unity Lodge No. 478 and a member of Scottish Rite Valley of Covington and the Shriners. He was also a former semi-professional baseball player.
Survivors include a son, Patrick Waite of Colusa, Calif.; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Anna Lee Wright, 72, of Carrollton, died Saturday at King's Daughters Hospital in Madison, Ind. She was a homemaker and a member of Apostolic Pentecostal Church, Campbellsville. Her husband, Charles "Hergie" Wright, died in 1997.
Survivors include sons, Billy Strausbaugh of Carrollton and John Wright of Worthville; daughters, Teresa Wright of Carrollton and Denise Wallace of Worthville; a brother, William Miller of Carrollton; a sister, Stella Ogburn of Carrollton; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight and from 10 a.m. Tuesday until the time of services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Worthville Cemetery.
