Dorothy Schneider, 84, store owner, volunteer
Dorothy W. Schneider, 84, of Taylor Mill, an owner of Central Sales in Covington and a community volunteer, died Monday at her home after battling cancer for several years.
She and her late husband, Justin Schneider, opened Central Sales in Cincinnati and later relocated the business to Covington. In 1964, they bought the old Bavarian Brewing Co. building in Covington and operated Central Sales there until closing the firm in 1986.
Mrs. Schneider was a member of the Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption, the Cathedral Ladies Society, the St. Charles Ladies Auxiliary, the St. Mary's Ladies Society and the Gemma Guild.
She also was a member of the Garden Guild, the Thomas More College Women's Guild, the Taylor Mill Boosters, the Point and the Northern Kentucky Council for the Deaf.
"She was a very giving person, " said Mrs. Schneider's daughter, Gerry Zembrodt of Covington. "She always put her family and friends before herself. She was a very gracious woman. She was also very funny, with a wonderful sense of humor."
Despite her failing health, Mrs. Schneider insisted on hosting 65 relatives at her home on Christmas Eve.
"It was bedlam, and she loved it, " said Mrs. Zembrodt. "Her family was her life."
Mrs. Schneider also was an excellent seamstress, cook and gardener.
Other survivors include sons, Ronald J. Schneider and Justin M. Schneider Jr., both of Independence, and Mark J. Schneider of Fort Wright; daughters, Judy Blaschke of Covington and Lee Ann Kordenbrock of Erlanger; 16 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption in Covington. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Thursday.
Burial will be in St. Mary Mausoleum in Fort Mitchell.
Memorials are suggested to the Schwab Organ Fund, Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption, 1140 Madison Ave., Covington, Ky. 41011; or the charity of the donor's choice.

Mable Clara Cummins, 98, of Foster, died Monday at River Valley Nursing Home, Butler. She was a homemaker and a member of Pine Grove Methodist Church. Her husband, Dana Chatham Cummins, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Shirley Cummins of Verona; a daughter, Fern Martin of Falmouth; a sister, Georgia Lou Thompson of Bracken County; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Lenoxburg Cemetery. Robert F. Gossett, 63, of Hardin, formerly of Williamstown, died at 8:30 p.m. Sunday at his home. He was disabled.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Gossett; a son, Christopher Gossett of Williamstown; a daughter, Melissa Vessing of Demossville; brothers, Chuck Gossett of Silver Grove and Jeff Gossett of Cincinnati; a sister, Linda Gossett of Elsmere; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will begin there at 5 p.m. Thursday. Cremation will be at Radel Funeral Home, Cincinnati. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 6612 Dixie Highway., Florence, Ky. 41042.
Virginia L. Baxter Kuntz, 74, of Lebanon, Ohio, died Monday at her home. Her husband, Robert Kuntz, preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters, Geraldine Smith of New Richmond, Ohio, and Margaret Branham of New Lebanon; sisters, Frances Dickerson and Josephine Lucas, both of Newport, Jean Kuntz of Edgewood, Wilma Peelman and Sandra Cunningham, both of Bellevue, Cindy Ann Cox of Alexandria, Joyce Riley of Dayton, Ohio, and Anna Marie Legge of Fort Thomas; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be private. Radel Funeral Home, Cincinnati, is handling arrangements.
Adam Christopher Messmer, 18, of Alexandria, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a member of Plum Creek Christian Church, Alexandria.
Survivors include his parents, Chris and Joan Moore Messmer of Alexandria; a sister, Kristen Messmer of Alexandria; and maternal grandparents, Bill and Bonnie Moore of Falmouth.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Plum Creek Christian Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the church. Burial will be in Morgan Cemetery, Pendleton County. Bernice "Bunny" Aleene Caldwell Morris, 72, of Augusta, died at 8:50 a.m. Tuesday at her home. She was a retired bookkeeper with Morris Standard Service and a member of Grassy Creek Christian Church. A daughter, Carol Faye Morris England, died in 1986.
Survivors include her husband, Carroll Fonzie Morris; a son, Daryl Dean Morris of Augusta; sisters, Helen Shields of Newport, Dorothy McClanahan and Carolyn Hart, both of Butler, and Ruth Fogle of Demossville; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Augusta. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery, Augusta. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Hope, 1 W. McDonald Parkway, Maysville, Ky. 41056.
Raymond Herschel Oak, 94, of Carrollton, died Tuesday at Green Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center, Carrollton. He was a retired farmer and a construction worker. His wife, Margaret Brown Oak, died in 1978. A son, Herschel Dwayne Oak, died in 1955.
Survivors include daughters, Minnie Louise Tilley of Florence, Nancy Ray Garriott of Madison, Ind., and Linda M. Stangle of Carrollton; a sister, Beatrice Hamilton of Carrollton; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Carrollton.
Frances A. Perrone, 84, of Florence, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include sons, James Perrone of New Jersey and Robert Perrone of Florence; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Church, Florence. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Burlington. Cremation will be at Southwest Ohio Cremation Co., Milford, Ohio.
Genevee Rudd, 66, of Verona, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a waitress. Her husband, Willie Rudd Jr., preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons, Michael Lynn Rudd of Mount Sterling, Larry Ricky Rudd of Verona and Willie Emery Rudd of Williamstown; her father, William Orvel Lykins of Verona; brothers, Edgar Lee Lykins of Hope, Willard Ray Lykins of Verona, Harold Gene Lykins of Napoleon and Raymond Darell Lykins of Ghent; sisters, Juanita Patrick of Salyersville and Carol Hanson of Verona; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home, Verona. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in New Bethel Cemetery, Verona.
Hilda E. Sand, 75, of California, died at 4 p.m. Monday at the home of her sister in California. She was a housekeeper.
Survivors include her sisters, Clara Hogle, Ruth Erb and Rita Sand, all of California; and brothers, George Sand and Paul Sand, both of California.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Church, Alexandria. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services Monday at the church. Fletcher Sorrell, 72, of Falmouth, died Tuesday at River Valley Nursing Home, Butler.
