Edna Lou Thompson, 68, 'loved everybody'
Life was never easy for Edna Lou Thompson, but friends and family say her humor and disposition always pulled her through.
"She was so funny, and she just loved everybody, " said a niece, Marie Spegal. "She loved to tell jokes."
Ms. Thompson had 13 children, and for a time the task of raising them proved too much and they were removed from her home by state social service agencies because of neglect.
But each of the children later reconciled with her, and she maintained loving relationships with them later in her life, Spegal said.
"Some things you do over, " Spegal said. "It happens sometimes. I knew her my entire life and loved her very much."
Ms. Thompson, a homemaker from Covington, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth North Hospital, Covington. She was 68.
Despite suffering from cancer, heart problems and other medical ailments, Ms. Thompson always remained upbeat and resilient, Spegal said.
She appreciated the little surprises life sprang on her, like in her late 50s when, after obtaining a copy of her birth certificate, she discovered she had been celebrating her birthday a day early all her life, on Nov. 2 instead of Nov. 3.
"We laughed and laughed about that one, " Spegal said. "Even when she was sick, she loved to have a good laugh. I think that's why people liked to be around her."
