Ronald Newman, former Fort Thomas councilman
Ronald E. Newman, 75, of Fort Thomas, a former Fort Thomas City Council member, died Saturday at his home.
Mr. Newman was a Fort Thomas City Council member in the 1970s and served as chairman of the city planning and zoning committee.
He worked 36 years at GE in the Cincinnati suburb of Evendale as a design and manufacturing engineer and as a manager in marketing, customer support, tooling and facilities and shop planning.
Mr. Newman was an avid traveler. He visited 67 foreign countries, all continents except Antarctica, 46 of the 50 U.S. states and traveled around the world four times.
His favorite hobby, though, was working on his farm near Melbourne.
"Despite all his traveling, he always said he would rather be in Melbourne, Ky., than Melbourne, Australia, " said his son, David Newman of Fort Thomas.
"He never forgot his roots, and he enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He was always very, very nice to everybody.
"He was genuine with a great sense of humor. He taught his children and grandchildren the value of a commitment and hard work."
Mr. Newman was a member of the Campbell County Historical Society, Campbell County Seniors, Fort Thomas Masonic Lodge No. 808 F&AM and the Scottish Rite.
Other survivors include his wife of 50 years, Dorothy Quitter Newman; daughters, Cathy Sudkamp and Kim Weyer, both of Fort Thomas; sons, Robert and William Newman, both of Fort Thomas; a sister, Margaret Abbott of Newport; and 14 grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church in Fort Thomas.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home in Fort Thomas.
Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery in Southgate.

David J. Beck, 80, of Williamstown, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. He was a farmer and a retired maintenance mechanic with St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Fort Thomas, and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Jessie Ruth Beck; a daughter, Sharon Ruth Staton of Independence; and a son, Christopher David Beck of Williamstown.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Saturday. Memorials are suggested to Hardin-Browning American Legion Post No. 109, Montjoy St., Falmouth, Ky. 41040.
Emma "Kate" Crawford Cammack, 79, of Carrollton, died Sunday at Middletown, Ohio, Regional Hospital. She was a homemaker, and a pianist and Sunday school teacher at Open Door Baptist Church, Carrollton, where her husband, Rev. English Cammack was pastor. Rev. Cammack died in 1992.
Survivors include sons, Mike Cammack of Madison, Ind., and Jerry Cammack of Lebanon, Ohio; sisters, Justine Lavon of Michigan and Edna Chevalier of Cincinnati; seven grandchildren and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Carrollton. Logan Combs, 79, of Burlington, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was a former carpenter with Spille Construction Co. His wife, Eunice Combs, preceded him in death.
Survivors include daughters, Connie Machlitt of Florence, Donnie Locklear of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Bonnie Cowgill of Cincinnati and Brenda Feldhaus of Burlington; a son, Johnny Combs of Florence; sisters, Edna Gauthorpe of South Bend, Ind., and Tootie Reeves of Elsmere; a brother, Buck Combs of Petersburg; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Matilda Mae Foulks Ebaugh, 81, of Covington, died at 7:35 a.m. Sunday at Rosedale Manor, Latonia. She was a retired employee of Central Service of Florida Hospital South in Winter Park, Fla. Her husband, Evan "Bud" Ebaugh Jr., died in 1994.
Survivors include daughters, Joyce Cummins of Westwood, Cincinnati, Carol Nagel of Florence and Marie Tomlin of Alexandria; a son, Evan "Buddy" Ebaugh of Albany, Ga.; a brother, Charles Foulks of Bromley; a sister, Mary Buckler of Orlando, Fla.; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at the convenience of the family. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice. Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger, is handling arrangements.
Diane Barnes Flarity, 64, of Greenville, S.C., formerly of Campbell County, died Dec. 26 at Greenville Memorial Medical Center. She was a former employee of the Greenville school board.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Allen Flarity; daughters, Tina Sorrells of Spartanburg, S.C., and Angela Flarity of Greenville; brothers, David Barnes of Roaring Springs, Pa., Wayman Barnes of Travelers Rest, S.C., Ronnie Barnes of Marietta, S.C., Dennis Barnes of Travelers Rest, Greg Barnes of Greer, S.C., Steve Barnes of Pelzer, S.C., and Keith Barnes of Greenville; a sister, Sandra Kennedy of Orlando, Fla.; and three grandchildren.

Donald B. Holtzclaw, 68, of Edgewood, died at 11:05 a.m. Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a computer specialist with Western Union Co. and a member of the Erlanger congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Harden Holtzclaw; a son, Lovell "Daryl" Holtzclaw of Edgewood; daughters, Diana Lynn Nemes of Princeton, N.J., and Donna L. Reinhart of Florence; his mother, Clarice Roark of Edgewood; five grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Billy Ray Johnson, 55, of Dayton, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was an employee of Levi Strauss Co., Florence.
Survivors include his wife, May Slone Johnson; sons, Billy Ray Johnson of Newport and Fred Johnson of Charlotte, N.C.; a daughter, Vicky Lee Peterson of Butler; and eight grandchildren.
Services will be at 8 p.m. Thursday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Visitation will begin there at 4 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Sonny Powell Cemetery, White Oak.
Patricia Ann Prather Knight, 43, of Dry Ridge, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Michael Knight; sons, Christopher Adams of Dry Ridge and Raymond Turner of Corbin; a daughter, Bobbie Lee Prather of Dry Ridge; a stepdaughter, Kasey Quinn Knight of Dry Ridge; her parents, Robert E. Adams of West Chester, Ohio, and Arleen Adams of Germantown; a sister, Margie Collins of Winchester, Ohio; brothers, Ronnie Adams of Bethel, Ohio, and Bradley Adams of Germantown; a stepbrother, Jimmy Nuxall; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge. Visitation will begin there at noon. Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery, Dry Ridge.
Lettie Simpson Loechel, 77, of Crittenden, died Sunday at Grant Manor Health Care Center, Williamstown. She was a retired supervisor with W.T. Grant Co., Fort Mitchell. Her husband, George L. "Lucky" Loechel, died in 2001.
Survivors include a son, Darel L. Loechel of Florence; daughters, Karen L. Evans of Owenton and Diane L. Stephens of Crittenden; brothers, Eddie Simpson of Berlin Heights, Ohio, Merle Simpson of Osgood, Ind., David Simpson of Norman, Okla., Allen Simpson of Middletown, Ohio, Frank Simpson and Ronnie Simpson, both of Independence, and Johnny Simpson of Crittenden; a sister, Gladys Fisk of Crittenden; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Fred C. Moore Jr., 70, of Falmouth, died Sunday at his home. Moore was a retired parts manager for the former Fisher Auto in Falmouth and U.S. Navy veteran. Survivors: his wife, Dena Flowers Moore of Falmouth; a son, James W. Moore of Falmouth; two daughters, Deloris Moore of Falmouth and Tracey Miller of California; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Thelma O'Hara, 94, of Madeira, Ohio, formerly of Park Hills, died at 1:17 a.m. Saturday at Deaconess Hospital, Cincinnati. She was a homemaker and a member of Madison Avenue Christian Church, Covington. She was a former vice president of the National Federation of Republican Women. Her husband, Eric O'Hara, died in 1966.
Survivors include nephews, Robert W. Osbourne Jr. of Cincinnati and Dr. James Osbourne of Fresno, Calif.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
Jeannine Philippe, 73, of Bellevue, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a voice professor at the College Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati, a volunteer with the Veterans Musical Group and Matinee Musical Club of Cincinnati.
Survivors include a sister, Helen Margaret Philippe of Bellevue.

Bertha C. Berens Slaughter, 81, of Covington, died at 8:40 a.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. She was a caregiver with Madonna Manor, Villa Hills. Her husband, Robert Luke Slaughter, died in 1988.
Survivors include a sister, Helen M. Smith of St. Cloud, Fla.

Georgia Rouse Sulzberger, 98, of Hampton, Va., formerly of Walton, died Thursday in Hampton. She was a former teacher at Dixie Heights High School and a member of Phoebus United Methodist Church in Hampton.
Survivors include cousins.
