Melissa Ennis, enjoyed working with children

When Rob Ennis first met Melissa Ann Glover, he had a feeling he would one day marry her.

"The Lord put her in my path, " said Ennis, of Covington. "She was just a beautiful person. A very private person, but she had a very big heart."

They were married Oct. 22, 1988, and enjoyed 14 years together until breast cancer claimed her life on Sunday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit in Covington.

She was 38.

She lived her life focused on her immediate family, her nieces and nephews and the children of the Community Christian Academy, where she was a preschool teacher and day care director.

The school is part of Community Pentecostal Church in Independence, where she was baptized and attended all her life.

"She was very giving to the children. She had a heart for the children, and the children dearly loved Melissa, " said her mother, Linda Glover of Covington.

Mrs. Ennis continued to work full-time even while she was getting chemotherapy every third week.

"She would say, `I have to get better now, because the kids miss me, '" her mother said.

When her hair fell out because of the treatments, Mrs. Ennis wore caps to school because she didn't want the children to notice.

One day, at her mother's urging, she took the cap off. One little boy said, "Oh, Miss Ennis, you're bald-headed like my grandpa."

Her hair grew back, though. "You wouldn't have known she was sick if you met her on the street, " her husband said. "Her illness was a testimony to a lot of people, how she continued to have the drive and not complain, how she continued to carry on just like everything was OK."
