Rita Bayer Crone, devoted to family
At work or volunteering outside the home, Rita E. Bayer Crone kept the needs of her family foremost in her mind.
"She devoted her life to us, and then she devoted her life to her grandkids, " said her son, Glenn Crone of Edgewood.
Mrs. Crone, 82, of Hebron, died Thursday at her home.
She worked at Shillito's Department Store in Cincinnati in the mid-1960s, and later was a cafeteria employee for Madonna Manor in Villa Hills; St. Joseph School in Crescent Springs; and St. Paul School, Florence.
She served as a member of the ladies auxiliary of the Crescent Springs Fire Department from 1951 to 1965.
From 1968 to 1970 she volunteered for the USO at the airport, taking care of service members who had flight layovers during the Vietnam War. At the time, two sons were in Vietnam.
"She was probably the most wonderful woman I ever met, " Glenn Crone said. "She was gentle and loving, devoted to her children."
In her spare time, Mrs. Crone enjoyed crocheting and sewing.
Her husband, Carl Crone, died in 1986.
Other survivors include sons, Carl Crone of Hebron, Jerome Crone of Independence, and Charles Crone of Elsmere; a brother, Joseph Bayer of Cincinnati; a sister, Ruthie Whitehead of Highland Heights; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at St. Joseph Church, Crescent Springs. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Joyce Ryan Brannen, 62, of Maysville, died at 6 a.m. Friday at her home.
She was a bookkeeper for J.C. Everett's Ace Hardware, Maysville, formerly an employee of Browning's EPT, Maysville, and a member of St. Patrick Church, Maysville.
Survivors include her husband, James F. Brannen; a son, John Brannen of Lexington; a daughter, Melissa Blackwell of Frankfort; a brother, Robert Ryan of Dayton, Ohio; sisters, Pauline Fay of Minerva, Ann Douglas Hedrick of Chicago, Ill., and Mary Margaret Ryan of Maysville; and a granddaughter.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick Church. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Brell Funeral Home, Maysville. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Maysville.
Joseph Brown, 60, of Pendleton County, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
Arrangements are pending at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth.
Thelma Lee Cooper, 71, of Independence, formerly of Covington, died at 5:45 p.m. Thursday at her home.
She was a homemaker and a member of East Side Church of the Nazarene, Covington. Her daughter, Becky Cooper, died in 2001.
Survivors include sons, Glenn Cooper of Erlanger, Chester Cooper of Independence and Roger Cooper, Nick Cooper, Floyd Cooper Jr., all of Covington; daughters, Shirley Carpenter of Independence, Terry Bain of Lud
low, Linda Schottenschneider of Mount Sterling, Sonda, Schmitz of Bellevue and Connie Suedkamp and Vickie Owens, both of Latonia; 35 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
Services will be at noon Monday at East Side Church of the Nazarene. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services Monday at the church. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Steven E. Daly, 46, of Latonia, died at 3:34 a.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.
He was a member of the Kenton Game and Fish Association.
Survivors include his wife, Laurie Daly of Latonia; sons, Jarrod Daly, Jacob Daly and Jordan Daly, all at home; brothers, Mike Daly of Walton and David Daly and Dale Daly, both of Covington; a sister, Tricia Winterman of Independence; and maternal grandmother, Thelma Swartz of Covington.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia.

Lillian C. Earle, 90, of Independence, died at 5:50 a.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North Hospice Unit, Covington.
She was a retired seamstress for Rauh Shirt Co. Her husband, William Earle, died in 1988.
Survivors include sons, Leslie "Pop" Marsh of Covington and Chester "Chet" Marsh of Sebring, Fla.; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.
Charles Edward "Tooney" Mahoney, 78, of Carrollton, died Friday at Jewish Hospital, Louisville.
He was retired from M&T; Chemical Co., a former employee of Rocketwood Manufacturing Co. and a member of Worthville Baptist Church. A grandson, Rodney Abney, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Gail Marie Perkinson Mahoney; stepdaughters, Judy Hayes of Biloxi, Miss., Dianna Liter of Madison, Ind., Cherry Reynolds of Worthville and Penny Popp of Turners Station; brothers, Noble Mahoney of Perry Park and Coleman Mahoney of Worthville; sisters, Alma Mae Mahoney of Carrollton and Allene Lee of Worthville; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Frank A. Mitts, 47, of Alpharetta, Ga., formerly of Fort Thomas, died Sunday at his home.
He was a self-employed drywall finisher. His wife, Frances Kimbrell Mitts, died in 2000. His mother, Joyce Mitts, died Jan. 26.
Survivors include his father, Estill D. Mitts Sr. of Covington; a brother, Estill D. Mitts Jr. of Los Angeles; and sisters, Betty Stephens of Crittenden and Joyce Carol Burgess of Daytona Beach, Fla.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Hill Crest Cemetery, Dry Ridge. Visitation will be from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Tuesday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Crittenden.

Carlos Gene Perrin, 70, of Berry, died Friday at his home.
He was a farmer and a member of Riverview Baptist Church, Harrison County, and a Korean War veteran of the Air Force.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Louise Perrin; daughters, Carla Hill of Cynthiana and Bobbye MacGresh of Edgewood; a son, Tod Perrin of Williamstown; brothers, Jack Perrin of Berry, Herbert Perrin, Harold Perrin and Paul Perrin, all of Dayton, Ohio; and Robert Perrin and Mac Perrin Jr., both of Melbourne, Fla.; sisters, Dorothy True of Southgate, Ruby King of Cynthiana, Marjorie Newkirk and Edna Ann Foster of Melbourne, Fla.; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Pythian Grove Cemetery, Berry.

Alma Florence Vanarsdall Pettit, 92, of Newport, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital, Fort Thomas.
She was a member of Ashland Avenue Baptist Church. Her son, Lindy Pettit, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her son, Harold R. Pettit of Independence; sisters, Ruby Osborne of Owenton and Betty Jane Perkins of Jonesville; a brother, Dorman Van Arsdall of Florence; five grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Chambers and Grubbs, Florence. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of services Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Jonesville Cemetery.

Joyce Geyer Rolf, 65, of Fort Thomas, died at 5:50 a.m. Friday at her home.
She was a retired travel agent of American Express, Cincinnati.
Survivors include her husband, James H. Rolf Sr.; a daughter, Jennifer Cox of Fort Thomas; sons, James H. Rolf Jr. of Union and John A. Rolf of Alexandria; her mother, LaVerne Harris of Kennesaw, Ga.; a brother, Jerome Geyer of Kennesaw; and six grandchildren.

Robert Charles Sipple, 85, of Independence, died at 2:17 p.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
He was retired from R.A. Jones & Co. His wife, Bettie Thum Sipple, died November 11.
Survivors include his daughter, Bettie Warren of Burlington; a son, Paul D. Sipple of Independence; a sister, Mary Spence of Taylor Mill; brothers, Paul Sipple of Independence and Meredith Sipple of Burlington; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Tuesday at Community Pentecostal Church, Taylor Mill. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Marvin Tummins, 81, of Webster, Texas, formerly of Owenton, died Nov. 11 in Webster.
He was a certified public accountant and professor emeritus, having taught at the universities of Virginia, South Carolina and Georgia, Texas A&M; University and the University of Houston-Clear Lake.
He also was a former director of the economic section of the Virginia Council of Highway Investigation and Research. He was a member of numerous professional associations such as the American Institute of CPAs; American Accounting Association and the American Statistical Association. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille Tummins; a daughter, Sharon Tummins of Houston; sons, Tom Tummins of Marietta, Ga., and Bill Tummins of Deer Park, Texas; and four grandchildren.
Memorial services will be Tuesday at St. Augustine Church, Covington.

He was property manager for Elberta Apartments and a member of St. Agnes Church, Fort Wright, Roulette's Car Club and Jewish Hospital Cardiac Rehab.
Survivors include his wife, Rose Albers Wachs; a son, C.J. Isler of Park Hills; a daughter, Lisa Becker of Park Hills; a brother, Daniel Wachs of Park Hills; sisters, JoAnn Hugenberg of West Chester, Ohio, and Janet Albers, Joyce Albers, Jeannie Dickman, all of Park Hills; and a grandson.
