Glenn G. Arnsparger, veteran, businessman
Glenn G. Arnsparger spent 20 years with the Air Force, rising to the rank of technical staff sergeant. He installed and removed radar from F-104 fighters, including one on display at the Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio.
When he retired from the Air Force in 1982, Mr. Arnsparger, who died Monday at 59, returned to a childhood hobby -- photography -- for his second career.
He learned it from his father, who worked with black-and-white film when Mr. Arnsparger and his siblings were children.
One day he called his sister, Myrna B. Lane of Covington, and told her he needed a business partner. For four years, they photographed houses for the Northern Kentucky Board of Realtors multiple listings service.
"We drove hundreds of miles together, talking and joking. It was really nice, " Lane said.
When Lane left the business, Mr. Arnsparger founded We-Do Photo realty service, and photographed with his brother, Ralph Arnsparger of Edgewood, for another five years.
Mr. Arnsparger also worked dispatching wreckers for his sister in her business, Jess 'N' Sons Towing Service in Covington.
Diabetes cost him both his legs. After losing the second one five years ago, he learned to drive a van using hand controls.
"I hoped that one day I would have that kind of drive, " Lane said. "He wasn't going to let anything beat him."
He died of a heart attack in his sleep, Lane said, at 2 p.m. Monday at his home in Covington.
"He was just a great brother. He was always there for me all my life, as well as I was for him, " she said.
