Charles Witemyre, 78, business owner
Charles A. "Bud" Witemyre Jr., 78, had a hand in remodeling lots of kitchens in Northern Kentucky.
The Fort Mitchell resident, who died Tuesday at Villaspring of Erlanger, formerly owned Witemyre Supply Co., a kitchen cabinet and appliance sales business on Scott Street in Covington.
He and his brother-in-law, Richard McCafferty, bought the business from Mr. Witemyre's father in the 1950s, and together they ran it until Mr. Witemyre retired in 1993.
"He was a very good businessman, very honest, " said his wife, Mary June Witemyre. "They were nice to everybody, whether you came in for a small purchase or a big purchase."
Mr. Witemyre was a charter member of the Northern Kentucky Home Builders Association and was active for more than 30 years in the Covington Lions Club. The World War II Navy veteran was a past president of the Northern Kentucky Navy League.
Although he was not an avid reader, he worked diligently on the Kenton County Library Board. He was on the board when the original Erlanger branch was built, and he left the nursing home for the last time in October, to see the opening of the new Erlanger branch.
He was an outgoing man who loved to be around people, his widow said.
"He loved for me to have parties, " she said. "He loved to be with his children. Nothing made him happier than to have our kids have all their friends in our house. He was right there among them."
