Lonny White, outdoorsman, known as 'dad to everybody'
Lonny Ray White's favorite hobby in recent years was flying radio-controlled model airplanes.
"I built them, and he flew them, " said his wife of 24 years, Lu Ann Fischer White. "The airplanes became his passion."
Mr. White, 50, of Independence, belonged to the Flying Cardinals Radio Control Airplane Club. He also was an avid hunter, angler and golfer and was a Little League baseball team coach.
With lots of interests and activities, he was very outgoing with lots of friends, his wife said.
"He was known as `dad' to everybody, " she said.
Mr. White, a heavy-equipment operator for Cincinnati Gas & Electric Co., died Friday at his home.
He suffered from multiple sclerosis. After becoming disabled, Mr. White acquired a special friend who helped keep him company the past three years - "Cookie, " a greyhound dog.
"She was a very good companion for him, " said Mrs. White.
Mr. White was a 32nd degree Mason, past master of Petersburg Lodge No. 926 and a member of the Scottish Rite. He also was a member of Latonia Christian Church and a Kentucky Colonel.
Other survivors include a daughter, Erin White of Independence; a son, Andrew White of Independence; two brothers, William White of Gastonia, N.C. and Gregory White of Latonia, and his mother, Minnie C. Gambrel of Latonia.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home in Florence.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Latonia Christian Church.
Burial will be at Floral Hills Cemetery.

Shirley Black, 66, of Newport, died Saturday of natural causes at her home. She worked as a bindery worker at ARL.
Survivors include a son, William Black of Newport; and brothers, Joe Sprott of Bellevue and Arthur Sprott of Las Vegas.
Services will be at the convenience of the family. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Northern Kentucky, 1403 Alexandria Pike, Fort Thomas, Ky., 41075.

David H. Deiterman, 63, of East Walnut Hills, Ohio, died Sunday at his home.
Arrangements are pending at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington.
R.C. Fisk, 80, of Dry Ridge, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a carpenter and farmer, a member of Dry Ridge Baptist Church and Carpenter's Union No. 698, and a World War II veteran of the Army. His wife, Marie Fisk, died in 1988 and a son, Mike Fisk, died in 1995.
Survivors include his son, Steve Fisk of Dry Ridge; a daughter, Cheryl Carnes of LaGrange; a brother, Maurice "Johnny" Fisk of North College Hill, Ohio; sisters, Beulah Pelly of Independence and Nina Hopperton of Dry Ridge; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Dry Ridge Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge. Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery, Dry Ridge. Memorials are suggested to Dry Ridge Baptist Church, 19 Broadway, Dry Ridge, Ky. 41035.
Naomi Stone Hughes, 82, of Erlanger, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North Hospice Unit, Covington.
She was a retired seamstress for Palm Beach Company. Her husband, Fred T. Hughes, died in 1970.
Survivors include sons, Ross Hughes of Oconto, Wis., William Hughes of Ludlow, Greg Hughes of Fort Mitchell and Carl Hughes of Covington; daughters, Pat Fulmer of Petersburg and Carol Hughes of Corinth; a sister, Rebecca Liles of Mansfield, Ohio; 19 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.
Carl A. Kidwell, 34, of Dry Ridge, died Friday in a automobile accident at I-75 and exit No. 175, Richwood. He was a lawn technician with Tru Green-Chemlawn, Florence, and a member of Sherman Full Gospel Assembly, Dry Ridge.
Survivors include his wife, Tonya Meschelle Kidwell; sons, David Kidwell of Brooksville and Ricky Kidwell and Wyatt Kidwell, both of Dry Ridge; a daughter, Cheryl Michelle Kidwell of Brooksville; his mother, Lucy Kidwell of Falmouth; his father, Allen Kidwell of Butler; and a brother, Christopher Kidwell of Falmouth.

Emmett D. King, 63, of Berry, died Saturday at Edgemont Manor Nursing Home, Cynthiana. He was a retired employee of Kincaid Lake State Park, Falmouth, a member of Mount Moriah Christina Church, Butler, and an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife, Kay Hitch King; a daughter, Stephanie Bowen of Lexington; and a sister, Elline Lauer of California.

Carlene Sue Moritz, 54, of Florence died Sunday at University Hospital, Cincinnati. She was a secretary for Toyota TshshoAmerica, Incorporated and a member of Erlanger Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Moritz Sr.; sons, William Moritz Jr. and James Raymond Moritz, both of Florence; daughters, Priscilla Freeman of Erlanger and Julie Riebe of Florence; a sister, Vicky Travis of West Virginia; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Wednesday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday at the funeral home. Edward C. Nader, 89, of Covington, died at 10:50 a.m. Saturday at St. Charles Care Center, Covington. He was a retired parlay mutual ticket taker at the Santa Anita Horse Race Track in Santa Anita, Calif., and a member of the Race Track Union.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Charles Care Center Chapel, Covington. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services Tuesday at the care center chapel. Burial will be in Vine Street Hill Cemetery, Cincinnati.

Bessie M. Estes Norris, 91, of Frankfort, died Saturday at Frankfort Regional Medical Center. She was a factory worker and a member of Kenwood Baptist Church. Her first husband, Ira Estes, and her second husband, Ella Ayres Kemper, both preceded her in death.
Survivors include her stepdaughter, Linda Maddox of Florence; and sisters, Stella Dempsey of Frankfort and Ruby Littrell of St. Petersburg, Fla.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at McDonald Funeral Home, Seminary Street, Owenton. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services Tuesday at the funeral home. George William Payne, 85, of Williamstown, died Saturday at Grant Manor Health Care Center, Williamstown. He was a retired farmer and a member of Williamstown Baptist Church. His son, William Payne, preceded him in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Myrtle Payne; a brother, Charles Payne of Morrow, Ohio, a half-brother, Franklin D. Helton of Florence, a sister, Geneva E. Sharp-Hall of Florence; and half-sisters, Emma Jean Boehm of Cincinnati and Ruth Crider of Burlington.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge.
Visitation will be from noon until the time of services Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Williamstown.
Jeffrey Daniel "Peas" Reckers, 42, of Covington, died Friday at Bob's Market, Latonia.
His wife, Julie Reckers, died in 1998.
Survivors include a son, Jeffrey D. Reckers Jr. of Covington; his mother, Doloris Putthoff of Covington; brothers, Tom Reckers of Villa Hills and Ron Reckers and Joe Reckers, both of Covington; and sisters, Carlene Reckers of Covington and Julia Burris of Independence.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Catchen Funeral Home, Covington.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of services Tuesday at the funeral home.
Cremation will be in Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati.
Helen Dooley Smith, 102, of Fort Wright, formerly of Cincinnati, died at 11:05 a.m. Wednesday at St. Charles Care Center, Covington.
She was a homemaker.
Her husband, Forrest Howard Smith, preceded her in death.
Survivors include friends, Helen and C.V. Ross of Columbia, Mo., and Peggy Haskell of Edgewood.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Charles Care Center Chapel, Covington.
Her body will be donated to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

Buford Christie Stumpf, 79, of Foster, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
He was retired from American Tool Co., Cincinnati, and a member of Grants Lick Baptist Church.
Survivors include sons, Maurice Lee Stumpf of Foster and Alton Christie Stumpf of Felicity, Ohio; a daughter, Patricia Lou Behrens of Osprey, Fla.; a sister, Louise Dawson of Alexandria; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Grants Lick Baptist Church.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Peoples Funeral Home, Grants Lick and from 1 p.m. until the time of services Wednesday at the church.
Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery.
Louise Young, 84, of Covington, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her sons, Fred Young and Larry Young, both of Chicago; sisters, Jenny Boswell of Wilder and Rosemary Davis of Delaware; brothers, Robert Reed of Covington and Dan Young of Newport; a grandchild and a great-grandchild.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. today until the time of services Tuesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.
