Ona Haydon, loved to quilt, help others
Ona C. Haydon, 90, of Williamstown and formerly of Corinth, a retired seamstress and the mother-in-law of state Rep. Royce Adams of Dry Ridge, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Grant County.
Mrs. Haydon worked at the former Corinth Uniform Factory.
She was a member of Corinth Christian Church and the Dry Ridge Homemakers.
"She was a very giving, very caring person, " said Mrs. Haydon's daughter, Rita Adams of Dry Ridge. "Even at age 90, she would cook food and take it over to Grant Manor nursing home in Williamstown as a treat for her friends.
"Everyone who knew her loved her. She enjoyed doing things for other people."
Mrs. Haydon's favorite hobby was making quilts. "She was a wonderful quilter and quilted all her life, " said Mrs. Adams.
She attributed her mother's long life to a healthy, active lifestyle.
"She was very self-sufficient and still able to live alone and drive a car at age 90, " said Mrs. Adams. "She prepared herself three balanced meals a day.
"She rarely missed a day of church and loved going to her homemakers' club."
Mrs. Haydon also was an avid reader and frequent visitor to the library.
Her husband, Gordon Haydon, died in 1982.
Other survivors include a son, Ronald L. Haydon of Sadieville, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Corinth Christian Church.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Corinth Cemetery.
Rogers-McDaniel Funeral Home in Corinth is in charge of arrangements.

Ruth Easter Trimble Gillen, 87, of Florence, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital in Florence.
Her husband, Carl Gillen, Sr., preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Carl Gillen of Florence; sisters, Maxine Nienabor of Mt. Carmel, Ohio, Ruby Deatherage and Marie Brown both of Florence; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at the convenience of the family.
Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence, is in charge of arrangements.
Eugene Leonard Grone, 72, of Sebastian, Fla., died Saturday at Celebration Hospital, Kissimmee, Fla.
He was a mechanic with ITW Corp. in Florence, a member of St. Sebastian Church in Sebastian, Fla., and a Navy veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Grone; a son, Keith Grone of Marietta, Ga.; a daughter, Lisa Grone of Cincinnati; a brother, Richard Grone of Erlanger; sisters, Delores Brandner of Lakeside Park and Mary Donathan of Erlanger; and five grandchildren.
Memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Henry Church, Elsmere. Strunk Funeral Home, Kissimmee, is handling arrangements.

Benjamin R. Hornsby Sr., 63, of Newport, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a self-employed painter.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Hornsby; daughters, Tammy Christian of Bromley and Vickie Long of Independence; a son, Benjamin R. Hornsby Jr. of California; a sister, Shirley Jackson of Dry Ridge; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.
Marilyn Ann Rovito, 56, of Fort Mitchell, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
She was a saleswoman with Reising Jewelers, Cincinnati.
Survivors include sons, Anthony Rovito of Crescent Springs and John Rovito of Cincinnati; and a grandson.
No services are planned. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Cincinnati Music Hall.

Audrey Lee Smith, 64, of Cold Spring, died at 10:27 a.m. Thursday at Hospice of Cincinnati.
She was a bank analyst with U.S. Bank in Cincinnati and a volunteer with Catholic Social Services of Northern Kentucky, Covington.
Survivors include her husband, Larry Smith; daughters, Terri Mayhew of Southgate, Jerri Payne of Fort Thomas, Kitty Poe of Alexandria and Candace Smith of Covington; sons, Clay Smith of Elsmere, Kurt Smith of Shelbyville, Kyle Smith of Ludlow and Wade Smith of Alexandria; sisters, Debbie Erwin of Covington and Anna Grau of Bellevue; brothers, Frank Farwell of Peach Grove, James E. Farwell of Florence and Wayne Farwell of Alexandria; 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Church, Alexandria.
There will be a reception in the church undercroft immediately following the Mass.
Cremation was at Southwest Ohio Crematory, Milford, Ohio.

Francis Doyle Smith, 84, of Crittenden, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.

Alberta Elizabeth McCane Staggs, 91, of Brooksville, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas.
She was a member of Lenoxburg Baptist Church and Bracken County Senior Citizens.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George "Kelly" Staggs, Sr., and daughters, Helen Elizabeth Staggs Sumerel and Deborah LaCill Staggs.
Survivors include daughters, Ruth Staggs Ogden of Fort Thomas, Lola Mae Staggs Barnard of Alexandria, Anna Marie Staggs Sharp of Carrollton and Charlotte Jean Staggs Cantor of Greensboro, N.C.; a son, Rev. George Kelly Staggs, Jr. of Cincinnati; sisters, "Anna" Mary Hitch of Milford, Ohio, and "Gladys" Irma Mains Hitch of Foster; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Lenoxburg Baptist Church.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Brooksville.
Burial will be in Lenoxburg Community Chapel cemetery in Foster.
