Julie Wever, 37, battled cancer
Julie Wever never met a stranger - particularly after she was diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer five years ago.
The Alexandria resident saw her trips to the doctor every Monday "as her social outing, " said her husband, Joe, a former art director at The Post.
She took her chemotherapy treatments in a large common room visiting with other patients. She made so many craft gifts for the medical staff who helped with her sessions that they began calling her "the bead girl."
"She never let the cancer change her, " said Joe Wever. "She always remembered the small things. She made so many friends."
Mrs. Wever died Friday at her home. She was 37.
Mrs. Wever tried various types of treatment, including bone marrow transplants, surgery, and targeted radiation after tumors spread to her brain.
"She was taking treatments as recently as two weeks ago, " her husband said. "She never wanted to be told there wasn't something that could be done."
Mrs. Wever was a sales clerk at Jones the Florist in Cincinnati.
"The people there were a second family to her, " Joe Wever said. "Flowers and gardening were really important to her."
